BBC 12-hour Editathon - large influx of new pages & drafts expected

AfC Reviewers are asked to be especially on the look out 08:00-20:00 UTC (that's local London time - check your USA and AUS times) on Thursday 8 December for new pages. The BBC together with Wikimedia UK is holding a large 12-hour editathon. Many new articles and drafts are expected. See BBC 100 Women 2016: How to join our edit-a-thon. Follow also on #100womenwiki, and please, don't bite the newbies :) (user:Kudpung for NPR. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:02, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

I can't get this table to work! J947 19:34, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It works now, after I added the category 'Category:New Zealand by-election result templates' J947 19:38, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It works because I fixed it for you :) Schwede66 19:41, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reference errors on 17 December

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:21, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

greetings

thank you for your query, you are most welcome to revert me if you so wish. If you would like the back story - User:Wwikix was for some time a dutch wikipedia editor who chose to re-arrange categories and things compulsively - the admins had tried behavioural controls over 5x from what I understand - and in the end the editor was blocked for a while. When the editor came to english wikipedia - it was a mysterious and unexplained edit history of 'playing' with categories of which no one has gone in and fixed the 're-arrangements' - and was eventually blocked. Since the block at least 2 socks have arrived to offer alternative ways at looking at the world without explanation. The latest was an IP, the previous (identified that is) sock had applied 'name by association' categories - the CFD with explanations from more experienced editors the problem - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2016_December_8#Category:Daniel_Gabriel_Fahrenheit - the problem being there are probably more categories in the edit history that need to be expunged. If you feel happy with keeping the article in the category - that is fine - your call. Note that I have removed most from the category tonight. cheers JarrahTree 14:33, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@JarrahTree: I thought that there must be some background to this; thanks for the comprehensive answer. I had wondered about the whole thing because I had certainly come across such categories before, and see that this British people category exists for example. But I'd be the last one who would come to the support of a problem editor. Maybe you could provide an edit summary with your reverts that points to some background info, so that editors who want to understand what's going on can go and have a read. Schwede66 17:31, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It is a bit more difficult than that - some advise against providing the info n the open as given above as it is likely the sock is reading all this trying to work out how to evade identification in the future... JarrahTree 23:29, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FISA database profile merging

Hey Schwede66, in relation to this edit summary: do you still speak to FISA regarding their database? At Wikidata we have identified 72 (potential) duplicates in FISA’s database, maybe we could forward a list to the database maintainer. Would that be possible? Thanks and regards, MisterSynergy (talk) 18:09, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Email me the list and I'll pass it on. Schwede66 18:25, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay great! I will do so tomorrow or on the day after. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:10, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Xmas!

Re: [1]. My apologies, it would seem I've been at this so long I've long since forgotten there was an actual definition of minor edit. It just 'felt' minor. Mea culpa. Merry Christmas, DBD 10:01, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@DBD: No trouble. I looked at your edit count before I posted the comment and was rather surprised to find that you are such an experienced editor. I don't know, maybe I'm just a bit sensitive regarding marking edits as minor. And greetings of the season in return. Schwede66 17:59, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, Schwede66, could you have another check at my minor edits that I had made before you posted a comment on my talk page on 14 December 2016? Before then I had had a read of Help:Minor edit and I was pretty sure that my 'minor edits' conformed to those guidelines. J947 01:29, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've had another look at your 13 and 14 November minor contributions. There were a few that I thought aren't minor, e.g. the Wanganui "h" (in fact, your edit may be factually wrong; please go and check), this link is fine but there may be those who would want to point to a different redirect so it's not minor for that reason, these edits are good but there are different ways of how the info could be presented, same here and you are adding content. But in the big scheme of things, you are doing just fine, and I value your contributions. In fact, I thought you were New Zealand's most valuable new editor in 2016 and wanted to post a barnstar on your page for xmas, but didn't get round to it while heading off on holiday. I shall do so now! Schwede66 18:57, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wilson sisters

Niece has a Kaimanawa horse, and its pure hero worship for her with the Wilson Sisters. So was surprised there was not even a stub article ;-) Ingolfson (talk) 08:51, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Files etc

Hi! I noticed in your RfA that you might be interested in some things related to files, so I wanted to drop a line and encourage you to get involved in one of the areas I find to be a very nice diversion from the stressful administrative work on enwiki. OTRS is always in need of volunteers, especially to handle tickets related to image permissions. Let me know if you're open to the idea, and I'll provide more information. Administrators are especially invaluable as OTRS agents because they can view deleted files, and it's clear you're soon to be one. I've been engaging in a sort of shadowing/training program for new agents recently, so I'm happy to help walk you through an introduction to permissions tickets if you decide you're interested in that. ~ Rob13Talk 21:46, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BU Rob13: I've dealt with OTRS volunteers a lot over the years and yes, that's an area where I'd be happy to help out. Let the RfA run its course first, though. Schwede66 22:11, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly. Any time you can spare for OTRS would be valued whether or not you pass RfA, of course. ~ Rob13Talk 22:14, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to User talk:Jack501

Hi there. I came to inform you that I undid your edit to this user's talk page. {{admin help}} is for requesting help from a single admin. The problem you noticed in this user's editing is not one that can be decided by a single admin at this place. If they are a sock as DrKay suspects, WP:SPI is the right place. Otherwise, use WP:ANI or another noticeboard, not only because requests from {{admin help}} are oftentimes not noticed for a long time and thus are not useful when immediate action is required. NB: Since I have no knowledge of the kind of edits you objected to, I did not take any action. Regards SoWhy 20:22, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SoWhy: The notification was in regards to the talk page warnings under the same heading, and the diff showed that the editor is continuing with those edits despite the warnings. I would have thought that a "single admin" can deal with that; the previous admin had given the last warning. I'm unaware of any sock investigations (and yes, several admins would be involved with that, I suppose). Please let me know whether you will deal with it; no point posting at ANI in that case. Schwede66 20:28, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed the warnings but I can't see a clear policy breach that would warrant an immediate block without any discussion or consensus. As such, I prefer to err on the side of caution and let the rest of the community weigh in. Problematic edits can always be reverted. I have been out of the game for too long to be familiar with the specific problems you noticed but as I said, feel free to use ANI to request some action. Possibly I'm wrong and some other admin will take care of it immediately. Regards SoWhy 20:37, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; have drawn it to DrKay's attention (who appears to be online). Schwede66 20:46, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bike Auckland

If you have some time at some stage to spend to update the Bike Auckland page, that would be appreciated. I did update the name, and add the new logo but am a bit hesitant to do yet more myself, for reason which I am sure you are aware. Not urgent but maybe if you get around to it some day... Ingolfson (talk) 08:20, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. Why don't you stick a few refs to use onto the talk page, and I'll come along and deal with it? Have watchlisted the article. Schwede66 08:32, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year, Schwede66!

Implosion of Radio Network House

Hi Schwede66. I've tagged a statement in the lead of Implosion of Radio Network House as the wording is challengable, and is not supported by sources as written. I've left a note on the talkpage. Regards SilkTork ✔Tea time 13:36, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SilkTork: That article hasn't received much attention from other editors, so thank you - I shall have a look. Schwede66 17:32, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment. The father of the house matter came from some research done a decade ago - but it may take a bit to resuscitate.
