June is always a busy month at the Guild of Copy Editors. Here's a brief update on our recent and upcoming activities:
The July 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on July 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on July 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in March and April 2013 and to complete all requests placed before the end of May 2014. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in March and April 2013", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!
From Sunday, June 15, to Saturday, June 21, we held a Politics Blitz, in which we copy edited articles from WikiProject Politics. 12 of the 22 editors who signed up copy edited at least one article, and the overall blitz cleared at least 22 articles totaling over 61,000 words from the backlog.
Also in June, we held our regular, semi-annual Election of Coordinators to serve until December 31, 2014. The current incumbents (see below) were all re-elected with five supporting votes each.
Many thanks to everyone who has participated in our drives and blitzes, and for your continued work at the Requests page; it really is appreciated!
