lesser short-nosed fruit bat
A newborn lesser short-nosed fruit bat (Cynopterus brachyotis), atop a human finger. Newborn lesser short-nosed fruit bats are nursed for six to eight weeks, and may be carried by the mother in the early stages of life. They reach sexual maturity at 6–8 months for females, and 12 months for males. Adults average 21 to 32 grams (0.74 to 1.13 oz) in weight, with a forearm length of 55–65 mm (2.1–2.6 in).Photograph: Anton Croos
