Number of deaths unclear
The box on the right-hand side of the page claims: "Deaths: 600,000 - 1,500,000"
Meanwhile, the opening paragraph specifies a narrower range: "deaths ... between 1 million and 1.5"
I believe all instances in the article should reflect the same range of numbers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.132.205.155 (talk) 10:41, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Interwiki links?
Re: [1], it seems like we should keep these links to other Wikipedias, even if the linked page isn't very good for whatever reason. Tom Harrison Talk 13:26, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- I wonder if there is a relevant WP regulation. Otherwise the argument to remove the link seems reasonable. -- Ashot (talk) 18:44, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- In wikipedia, where reason is often sacrificed because it is too much bother to defend it, the argument to remove the link is reasonable only if you want to be blocked by some administrator. I have already fought and lost the battle for the same argument: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Khachkar#RFC_-_Interwiki_linking_to_a_propaganda_webpage and I lost it basically because to have won it would have undermined Wikipedia's house-of-cards empire. So my advice is to let it go. Meowy 21:56, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Mixed metric and imperial
Both "mile" and "kilometer" are used at different points in the article. Shouldn't the article either settle on one (metric, obviously) or provide conversions? CüRlyTüRkeyTalkContribs 21:42, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Request: Watchlist related cat articles
Yes, cat articles (see Van cat#Naming controversy for why; the cat is claimed as a symbol by three ethnicities of the Lake Van region, for several generations now). If you are tracking abuse of the Armenian Genocide article, please also keep an eye on the Van cat and related Turkish Van cat articles, which have been subject to intense PoV-pushing (variously anti-Turk, anti-Armenian or anti-Kurd, depending on which WP:GREATWRONGS are being righted), especially in material that was at Van cat naming controversy (see it's history for PoV-wars) and merged after much cleanup into Van cat. Some of the edits have raised WP:COI concerns, too, with an anti-Turk activist citing herself as if a reliable source. Meanwhile, various "drive-by" editors will periodically perform anti-Armenian and often simultaneously anti-Kurd edits, and re-do either or both articles to never mention anything but Turkey and Turkish culture. I've warned at Talk:Van cat#Ethnic edit-warring that any further ethnic-targeted nastiness, from any quarter, will result in immediate WP:AN/I action, but I don't watch every day, so additional eyes would be useful. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ɖ∘¿¤þ Contrib. 17:07, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I worry that mentioning this here might do more harm than good to the Van Cat and Turkish Van articles. Additional eyes don't always mean useful eyes. Meowy 20:59, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Edit proposal
I propose removing the "The origin of the word genocide and its connection to Armenia" thing that currently squats at the head of this article. It is off-topic (this article is about the Armenian Genocide, not about the coining of a word) and already appears on the "genocide" article which this article is linked to. Anyone wanting to pursue the meaning of the word genocide would go to that other article so there is no need to duplicate part of its content here. It is also visually ugly and disrupts the flow of this article. Meowy 20:45, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Since nobody has objected, I have now removed it. Meowy 20:26, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Why did you remove it instead of moving it to the defining genocide section inside the article ?Ali55te (talk) 23:45, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Section 5.8 - Persia
The following sentence: "Islamic Turks invaded the town of Salmas in northwestern Persia and tortured and massacred the Christian Armenian inhabitants in the cruelest possible manner" is obviously passionate opinion and not an attempt at objectivity. It should be removed or modified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.190.150.98 (talk) 16:20, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
I object. There is no room for historic revisionism on an encyclopaedia. Refute the source if you can.188.118.181.9 (talk) 14:00, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
armenian genocide
To correct a point of fact in this otherwise excellent article, the painting by Arshile Gorky "the Artist and his Mother" is not in the Cafesjian museum in Yerevan. It is in the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Other paintings by Gorky are in the MoMA and Metropolitan museums in that city. ---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arshilovna (talk • contribs) 17:26, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
