Stoke City 1949–50 football season
The 1949–50 season was Stoke's 50th season of league football and the 29th in the First Division .
Overview
The 1949–50 season started on a bad note for Stoke as Neil Franklin handed in a transfer request which caused a rift between him and the management and also caused morale to drop. By October time Stoke were deep in relegation trouble and around this time Bob McGrory broke the club's transfer record with the £9,000 signing of Celtic's Leslie Johnston . However the most notable signing was that of Harry Oscroft who would later become a great player for Stoke.
Just after Oscroft's arrival Stoke slumped to a poor 6–0 defeat to Arsenal as Stoke went a poor run of form. Stoke just managed three points from their remaining eight games and just avoided relegation. It was a very poor season and after narrowly missing out on a championship just three seasons ago it was disappointing to see Stoke almost relegated.
