Skarlet is a female solo-jazz singer.

Early life

Myra “Skarlet” Ruaro – best known for her spunky stage presence, stylish get-up, and signature vocal flair astounded audience everywhere when she become frontwoman for local ska heroes: Put3ska.

Her name became synonymous with the band’s infectious theme “Manila Girl”. But her experience as a singer dates back to the late 1980s when she was with goth revelers’ Ardourn Delirium.

By 1990, she had a stint at La Scala restaurant that covered a vast repertoire from classical to Broadway music. She even reached the roster of five finalists at the auditions for Miss Saigon.

As Put3ska took off via a major label deal with OCTOARTS-EMI, Myra was tagged as 1995’s Best vocalist at the NU 107 Rock Awards. That honor led her (and at that time-Put3ska) to endorsing popular brands such as Doc Martens, San Miguel Pale Pilsen, Levi’s and Jack and Jill Chippy. Four years later, she left Put3ska and emerged as SKARLET – the fierce and headstrong persona of the Brownbeat Allstars.

Having bagged the 200 KATHA Award for best performance by a group, Skarlet and her band landed a major label deal with Viva Records. The result was the band’s self titled debut that yielded –“Hunger”, a song that earned its way into various compilations abroad.

After the band’s stint with Viva, Skarlet has kept herself busy with the Brownbeat Allstars, engaging in various solo and collaborative efforts, and pursuing the genre that most vocalists dream about…JAZZ. With a wide array of influences from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, and Anita O’day, Skarlet has found another side to her persona that has made her a complete woman.

Now, Skarlet is the latest artist to join Candid Records’ stable of fine Jazz singers under its OPM sublabel – ISLA. Her new album under ISLA is scheduled to be out this summer.
