Eau de Quinine was a very popular gentlemen's hair tonic, either in pure form or mixed with oil and is still in use although to a limited market. It is believed to be good for the scalp, to give a gloss to hair and to prevent hair loss. It gives a fresh, clean feel to the scalp and has a pleasant perfume. It is still marketed, principally by suppliers to traditional genetlemen's hairdressers. The British Pharmaceutical Codex publishes a prescription for its preparation

Boris Cabrera, who played Marco on TV, likes to make people laugh too. He grew up big and strong in Inglewood, CA, and stayed healthy by playing lots of sports: soccer, football, baseball, wrestling, and even competitive ping pong! But unlike Marco, an only child being raised by his single dad, Boris had the whole Cabrera clan to keep him company - mom, dad, and brother Arturo. With Boris entertaining them, we think the Cabrera family definitely got their daily dose of laughter!

Israeli Apartheid

"If we take the magnitude of the injustice done to the Palestinians by the state of Israel, there is a basis for comparison with apartheid," said the former Israeli ambassador to South Africa, Alon Liel. "If we take the magnitude of suffering, we are in the same league. Of course apartheid was a very different philosophy from what we do, most of which stems from security considerations. But from the point of view of outcome, we are in the same league." http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1703244,00.html

South African Archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu has accused Israel of practising apartheid and said that "it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa". [3]

Websites such as Anti-war.com and Jews sans frontiers claim that Zionism, and Israel's treatment of Palestinians is discriminatory and a form of apartheid, and refer to it as an Apartheid state.[4]. [5]

Israel did not become an apartheid state with the occupation, it became an apartheid state when it was established as a state that grants superior rights to Jews from anywhere than it does for non-Jews who come from there. To take the view that Israel's system of legally enforced race discrination is not apartheid is to mistake apartheid for minority rule. A system of law that grants priveledges to one ethno-religious group over others is an apartheid system. But to ignore the fact that the Palestinians are a minority under Israeli rule thanks to the zionist movement's ethnic cleansing of most Palestinians from their land is a working definition of chutzpah. I should point out here that Moshe Machover (www.kibush.org.il) has said that calling Israel an apartheid state is dangerous because it underestimates Israel's capacity and desire for ethnic cleansing. But anyway,

The Israeli West Bank barrier is often referred to by critics as the "Apartheid wall".

"The village of Mas'ha is adjacent to the Israeli settlement of Elkana, about 7km away from the green line. On April 2003, Israeli bulldozers started to separate Mas'ha by an 8m high concrete wall from its only remaining source of livelihood: agricultural land, mostly olive trees. 98% of the lands of Mas'ha will be placed on the Israeli side of the fence. The fence also disconnects the road from Jenin to Ramallah, a segment of which will now be in the Israeli side of the fence." http://antiwar.com/hacohen/?articleid=668

The Israeli human rights organisation B'Tslem also criticises Israel for apartheid activities.

"Israel has established in the Occupied Territories a separation cum discrimination regime, in which it maintains two systems of laws, and a person’s rights are based on his or her national origin. This regime is the only of its kind in the world, and brings to mind dark regimes of the past, such as the Apartheid regime in South Africa." [6]

Both Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch express concern over human rights within Israel. From Human Rights Watch: "Government-run Arab schools are a world apart from government-run Jewish schools. In virtually every respect, Palestinian Arab children get an education inferior to that of Jewish children, and their relatively poor performance in school reflects this." [7]

From Amnesty International: "Certain abuses committed by the Israeli army constituted crimes against humanity and war crimes, including unlawful killings; extensive and wanton destruction of property; obstruction of medical assistance and targeting of medical personnel; torture; and the use of Palestinians as “human shields”" [8]

"In August the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination called for the revocation of the Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law, passed the previous year and extended for six months in July. The law institutionalized racial discrimination. It barred Israeli Arab citizens married to Palestinians from the Occupied Territories from living with their spouses in Israel, and forced families to either live apart or leave the country altogether." [9]

"But South African apartheid was more than just separation. "Apartheid was all about land," says John Dugard, the South African lawyer and UN human rights monitor. "Apartheid was about keeping the best parts of the country for the whites and sending the blacks to the least habitable, least desirable parts of the country. And one sees that all the time here [in the occupied territories], particularly with the wall, now, which is really a land grab. One sees Palestinians dispossessed of their homes by bulldozers. One can draw certain parallels with respect to South Africa that, during the heyday of apartheid, population relocation did result in destruction of property, but not on the same scale as the devastation in Gaza in particular, [or in] the West Bank."" [[10]]

"Israel's Population Registry Act serves a similar purpose by distinguishing between nationality and citizenship. Arabs and Jews alike can be citizens, but each is assigned a separate "nationality" marked on identity cards (either spelled out or, more recently, in a numeric code), in effect determining where they are permitted to live, access to some government welfare programmes, and how they are likely to be treated by civil servants and policemen.

"Ask Israelis why it is necessary to identify a citizen as a Jew or Arab on the card and the question is generally met with incomprehension: how can it be a Jewish state if we don't know who the Jews are? The justification often follows that everyone in Israel is equal, so it does no harm. Arab Israelis will tell you differently." http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1703244,00.html

Colonel Sir Charles Hambro was born in 1897. He married Pamela Cobbold with whom he had four children, Cynthia, Diana, Pamela and Charles Hambro. Unfortunately Pamela died in 1927 and Charles married Mark Wallenbergs widow, with whom he had a daughter, Sally.

Sir Charles was awarded the Military Cross for his efforts in the first world war. He then joined the family bank, Hambros Bank and was quickly appointed chairman. He was also invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.).

During the second world war Sir Charles was appointed as head of the Special Operations Executive, Churchills secret army. He was told by Churchill to "set Europe ablaze." He ran an agent network in Europe and a number of operations, including operation Gunnerside (named after his favourite grouse shoot in Scotland). Hambro resigned from SOE in August 1943 after an argument with a collegue.

After the war Hambro became a Director of the Bank of England and continued his work at Hambros Bank.

He lived for a short time at Milton Abbey, before buying the Dixton and Dumbleton Estate in Gloucestershire where his family currently lives. He died in 1963 and is burried in the chapel at Milton Abbey, which is now a well known boarding school.

Action For Justice (AxJ) Accion por la Justicia (www.accionporlajusticia.com) is the world's first political party founded by divorced parents in Spain to protect children's rights. It's website has been recently criticized and Spanish Judges have attempted to close it down, thereby violating among other fundamental rights, free speech, freedom of the press, freedom to organise, etc. The political party AxJ is presently calling for elections in Spain to remove the present government which it considers biased, discriminatory against men, and corrupt and voting to reform the Spanish legal system and make Spanish Judges acountable to trial by Jury. Recent polls show that AxJ has very good possibilities of reaching power in the year 2006 due to social unrest in Spain. [Unit factor analysis] Unit factor analysis, also known as the “conversion system” among other identifiers, is a system of developing solutions to many elementary and complex problems in science and mathematics. It is based on the fact that from any algebraic statement of equality, such as 2.54cm = 1 inch can be obtained two multipliers, or factors, who’s value is one (1). For example:

Dividing each side of the above statement of equality by 2.54cm the expression 2.54 cm = 1 inch

 			          2.54 cm 2.54 cm

From which we obtain the factor that equals one (1) (1 inch/2.54 cm). If we divide both sides of the equation by 1 inch, we obtain the unit factor (2.54 cm/1 inch). An example of the usefulness of the system is that it enables one to organize a problem in a consistent manner that is easy to compute with a calculator and each step is suggested by the previous step e.g.

What is the price of gasoline in Euros per liter (excluding taxes), if the price is $2.50 per gallon? We probably know many of the, so called, conversion factors, and if we do not know them or if they have constantly changing value, as does Euros/Dollar, we can easily look them up. Start with what is given or known

($2.50/gallon) X (1 gallon/4 quarts) X (1.06 quart/ 1 liter) X ( 1 Euro/ $1.18) = 0.56 Euro per liter.

The Jellyfish are a band based out of Utica, New York. The band members met and formed in middle school originally as a heavy metal band. However, as time went on and their respective musical abilities increased they drifted into the world of "Jam" music. There style is a power driven funk that tends shatter people's perceptions of what a jam band can be.

the band consists of Rob "Bosco" Auert on guitar, Kurt Krumme on guitar and didjeridoo, Chris Woods on bass, and Al Moore on drums.

Group: Paradise Album: Paradise Year of production: 1980 Label: Pilgrim records (Ebony).

This now very rare and collectable Paradise album with its amazing hand painted bird of paradise cover illustration was produced in 1980.The 9 song gospel LP was created under the record label Ebony records, a sub-label of Pilgrim records. Ebony was a project initially set up to incorporate select up and coming black UK gospel acts at the time and included a talented 16 year old Levine Hudson within its camp.

Paradise Band members consisted of Junior Edwards (Bass), Bobby Clarke (Drums), Raymond Dennis (Guitars/keyboards), Philip Edwards (Keyboards), Doug Williams (Lead Vocals), Devon Burke and Karl Edwards (Percussion). The album recordings also included a horn section and contribution from backing vocalists (Echoes of Joy).

Paradise, previously known as the Reapers included gifted musicians from a variety of black church backgrounds. The enthusiastic young men saw the band as an opportunity to develop their craft and express themselves which they did with extraordinary ability and determination.

The album was produced by manager of the group Mike Martin and all songs were written and arranged by the band members with major songwriting contributions from the lead vocalist Doug Williams. All the lyrics throughout contained a strong down to earth evangelical messages aimed mainly at the youth of the day. Reggae track, Light of the World, caused much controversy within the churches, mainly because of the music’s association with Rastafarianism.

The album contents were a skilful mix of contemporary reggae, funk and soulful ballads, all of which reflected the secular musical influences of the day such as Earth Wind and Fire, Bob Marley and the Wailers and a rapidly developing Brit-funk scene. Other songs were the very funky spread the word with a rock guitar rift opening and the very smooth ballad with you.

The recordings produced a divided response amongst the conservative black church establishment. Staunch traditionalists viewed the musical style as too secular and labelled it the ‘devils music’. Young listeners on the other hand saw the band as progressive, and exciting.

The album however had cross-over appeal and attracted the attention of both black and white Christian fans. On the road, Paradise played in a number of youth establishments around London, and attracted a huge army of fans who saw them play on TV, greenbelt and offer support for gospel music giant Andrae Crouch during his 1981 national UK tour.

Almost 3 decades later Paradise is now a rare classic gospel album and exchanges hands in both the UK and overseas for hundreds of pounds on the specialist collectors market. After a number of changes to the original line-up including a change of musical direction Paradise went on to produce two more albums and 4 singles before finally disbanding in 1986 ■

The U.S. Grazing Service, was a part of the Department of the Interior (in United States government) that managed grazing lands and carried out the Taylor Grazing Act, which leased public land for grazing. It was later merged with the General Land Office to form the Bureau of Land Management.

History

When the Taylor Grazing Act was passed in 1934 by Congress, they also created an office under the Department of the Interior to manage the act. It was first called the Division of Grazing, but later was renamed the U.S. Grazing Service in 1939. Its responsibilities were to enforce the act, which leased public lands to farmers and ranchers for grazing.

The Grazing Service encountered multiple problems, such as very low fees to lease land, which could not be raised due to opposition from farmers, budget reductions enacted by Congress, or unlawful use of the lands. Hoping to better control improper use of the lands, the Grazing Service moved its headquarters from Washington, D.C. to Salt Lake City, Utah.

With so much conflict surrounding the Grazing Service, the Secretary of the Interior combined the Grazing Service and the General Land Office to form the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in 1946. The BLM was given the responsibilities of the former U.S. Grazing Service and General Land Office.

The BLM retained control of its laws until 1976. In that year, Congress passed the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA). The FLPMA removed the responsibilities of the former General Land Office. It also changed fees and some regulations in the BLM's other set of responsibilities, which had been owned by the Grazing Service, and that are still used today.

Conductor Jonathan Sheffer has, for the last ten years, turned his attention to the question of what constitutes a concert of classical music in the contemporary world. The result: the Eos Orchestra and Red {an orchestra} in Cleveland, both of which have aimed to successfully break down concert-hall barriers through creative methods and collaborations with other artistic disciplines. Born in New York City, Mr. Sheffer graduated from Harvard University, where his teachers included Leonard Bernstein, and later attended The Juilliard School and Aspen School of Music. A conducting career emerged from his scores for numerous Hollywood films. He made his conducting debut with the San Diego Symphony in 1991. In the early ‘90s he lead the Seattle Symphony in concerts that combined unusual new works and performers with the standard repertoire, which began the kinds of programming experiments that resulted a few years later in Eos, and eventually, in Red. Outside of his responsibilities as artistic director of Eos and Red, his conducting has included opera, dance and festivals of all kinds. These have included the New York City Opera, where he conducted John Philip Sousa's The Glass Blowers, The Spoleto Festival, where he lead the Juilliard Orchestra, and the Ravinia Festival, where he appeared with the Eos Orchestra. In 2000, he led the Sapporo Symphony at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, the New World Symphony in Miami, and the United World Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in Bonn, a concert that was broadcast live on German National Television. In the dance world, Mr. Sheffer has conducted the American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as the Brooklyn Philharmonic, in 1997 performances of the Mark Morris Dance Company at BAM. And in 1996, he led the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with the Martha Graham Dance Company at the Edinburgh Festival. A prolific composer, Mr. Sheffer's range of works comprises television and feature film scores, works for orchestra, solo piano, concertos, two musicals, short operas, and song cycles. His work was the focus of a Guggenheim Works & Process series event in October 1999. His opera, Blood on the Dining Room Floor, from the Gertrude Stein novel of the same name, enjoyed a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run in 2000. The opera received the Richard Rodgers Production Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and was given a reading as part of the New York City Opera's Showcasing American Composers Program. In the summer of 2003 he was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome.

The decisive moment is a philosophy in photography or "street photography" created by the father of photojournalism, Henri Cartier Bresson. He has written a book named after this theory.

The decisive moment is a moment at which elements for a great photograph come together, allowing for a photographer to capture that richness forever. It can also be described as a moment at which something rare happens in front of a camera, allowing that photographer to take a capture of it. For Bresson, the decisive moment required a spiritual connection with the world. He is considered the master of this technique.

Safat

Safat is the most curious brid of all in greek mythology. She is supposed to spend all her time flying and never comes to rest. As she soars, usually high, she lays her eggs which hatch while they are falling through the air. Only the shells reach the ground, and if part of a shell is eaten by an animal, the animal will go mad.

Seafaring films feature main characters involved in traveling across the sea, be it by sailing, steam, diesel, paddle, surfboard, or some other means.

Rory is probably the true bred form of a highschool band gone right. It first started out as just that, a highschool band, during Marc (bass) and Jordan's (guitar) freshman year. Unsure of a band name then, they went a recruited older mates Joel (drums) and Chris (guitar), to form what would then be called Freshly Squeezed, with the lineup mentioned, and Jordan doing main vocals and Chris and Marc backing him. Having an "early Blink 182" style, they won a Battle of the Bands contest in their hometown of Altamonte Springs, FL in Spring, 2001, and, a year later, they won the same BOTB, under their new name, Five Second Rule, with an additional member, and brand new material.
New commer Allen, who also played guitar and sang, would switch off with Jordan to either just sing, or play guitar and sing (depending on the song). And with Allen, they evolved into a more indepth type of pop-punk blended with indie style of music.
Along with Allen, came a glympse of what Rory sounds like today, with the song 323 (three twenty-three), which was, until recently, still played at some Rory shows in the Orlando, FL area.
During the summer of 2002, they realized that their band name was copyrighted by a Canadian ska band. Knowing that fact, they decided to change their name to something noone would ever think of. Hence Rory.
Later that year, they would catch one of their first breaks, openning for a rising Fall Out Boy and a now non-existant Count the Stars. That joy lasted shortly, since their newest member Allen had to quit to go to college. That put Rory on hiatus for about half a year. During that time, they searched for a lead singer, as they were also trying to change their style. Then they found their last addition to their band, Jeremy. During early 2003, Rory came back to life with Jeremy on lead vocals, and a darker, but still fun style.
That year being Marc and Jordan's Senior year in High School, it was time for one last try at the battle of the bands, competing with school mates and friends Trivium, and losing to them at their high school BOTB, and neither winning in the city's BOTB. During the rest of the spring and summer of that year, Rory played various local shows to get the word out that they were back. And it payed off, as they were signed shortly after to One Eleven Records, and being paired up with rising stars The Spill Canvas as label mates.
Spring of 2004 is when they recorded their first record label EP, which was released that summer under the name Always Right As In We Are. In it includes Deja Vrooom, a very danceble song about reading a break-up letter, and a crowd-favorite, This Could've Been a Dance Dance Revolution... But Now Its Just a Dance., a song about sadism and, well, dance. The latter has also a music video for it , recorded in California by Kevin Wildt during some downtime in their first coast-to-coast tour.

Since then, Rory has had a few extra tours through the east coast, and have been practicing and recording demos for their upcomming, yet-to-be-titled-, full lenght LP, which was recently recorded during January and early February, 2006, and will be in stores everywhere during that summer.

[Government House, Hobart]

The official residence of the [Governor of Tasmania] in [Hobart] is an elegant neo-gothic sandstone mansion, standing in 15 hectare gardens on the banks of the River Derwent. It was completed in 1857 and first occupied in 1858 by Sir Henry Fox Young.

Government House is both a ceremonial building for State occasions such as [investitures], a place for official luncheons, dinners and receptions, a place where hospitality can be extended; the main centre for the performance of the [Governor's] constitutional functions, and the private residence of the Governor and his or her family.

History

The first substantial Government House was built in 1817 in Macquarie Street on an area now occupied by Franklin Square, Elizabeth Street and the Town Hall. However this building proved to be inadequate and Governor Arthur decided that it needed to be replaced by a house on the present site at Pavilion Point. After several delays construction of the present Government House commenced in 1855. Sandstone was excavated from quarries at the site, which are now ornamental pools. Local timbers were used for the joinery and Welsh slate for the roofs. Furnishings were ordered from Trollope and Sons, London.

Construction was completed in 1857 and on 2 January 1858 Sir Henry Fox Young became the first Governor to take up residence.

Apart from the conservatory, which was rebuilt in 1991, Government House remains as it was when it was first occupied.

Tasmania's Government House is today regarded as one of the best Vice-Regal residences in the Commonwealth. Designed by colonial architect William Porden Kay, it is a fine example of an early Victorian country house in neo-Gothic style and is one of the largest of its type in Australia. The scale, detail and finish of the entrance hall, grand corridor and state rooms together with their furniture are unequalled in Australia. Outstanding exterior features of the house include exceptional stonework, individually carved sandstone chimney pots and bas-relief sculptures.

Description

Government House has some 73 rooms and is widely admired as one of the finest buildings of its era in Australia. Since 1989 it has been opened to the public at least once a year. One unusual feature is that cows from the local prison farm graze in fields around the Vice-Regal estate.

Royal visitors

Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, was the first member of the [Royal Family] to stay at Government House in 1868. [Queen Elizabeth II] first stayed there in 1954 during her [Coronation] tour of the [Commonwealth] and she and other members of the [Royal Family] have stayed there on many occasions.
