The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Hi, once again thanks for the copyedit on the themes. I was wondering, whenever you have the time, if you would mind giving the whole article a look-over? It's not going anywhere soon, though, so you don't have to rush it, so please only do it when you have time. I don't want to seem like I'm rushing you or anything. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, --The Taerkasten (talk) 16:29, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I will try to have a look at it over the next few days. -- S Masters (talk) 17:02, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Done Sorry for the delay, I have now completed the copy edit. Issues can be found on the article's talk page. Cheers. -- S Masters (talk) 10:53, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Not at all. It's been brilliant, thanks so much. Hopefully, this brings it one step closer to FA. I've been working on it for almost 2 years now. --The Taerkasten (talk) 11:09, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Aside from the problems that are being addressed, what do you think of the article? I'm not sure if I should go through with the FA nomination, as the history shows, 3 failed FA attempts doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Nor does it help that there are few editors really improve the article.--The Taerkasten (talk) 11:29, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not familiar with the requirements for FA. Why don't you get a WP:PR done first, and see what issues that will bring up. Personally, I liked the article and I think it is well written and well researched. It should be an FA. -- S Masters (talk) 11:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, I think I might just do that.--The Taerkasten (talk) 11:52, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
CopyEditor's BarnStar | ||
I award you this CopyEditor's BarnStar for insisting on clear, comprehensible, and grammatically correct articles. For bringing The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that one step closer to FA, and for helping out when very few other editors would.—The Taerkasten (talk) 11:52, 10 April 2010 (UTC) |
- Thank you so much for the Barnstar! Glad I could help and good luck with the FA. :-) -- S Masters (talk) 03:51, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Better Days (webcomic)
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Better Days (webcomic). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Better Days (webcomic) (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:05, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
commercial link www.vertical-adventure.com removal
hi sir/madam,
i understood that my recent added link under "External Link" has been removed, i hope the link may be reconsider as the site is purely sharing rock climbing venue details in Malaysia,Ipoh one of the regions. it's non commercial site that benefits everyone. i hope you may reconsider about it.
many thanks.
best regards 60.54.124.118 (talk) 13:54, 30 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.54.124.118 (talk) 13:52, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for writing, and for your contribution to Wikipedia. Your link was deleted in line with Wikipedia's official policy on external links. The section on links normally to be avoided states that: "Except for a link to an official page of the article's subject, one should avoid: 11. Links to blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority." Your link was removed following this rule. In addition, your link is not even Ipoh specific. When I just checked, the two posts on the front page are about another city. In any case, it does not add anything new to the article on Ipoh that is not already there. If you wish to contribute to Wikipedia, you are encouraged to create an account, and contribute to the article directly. For example, it is better for you to add to a section on rock climbing in Ipoh. I hope this clarifies why your link was removed. -- S Masters (talk) 20:11, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- hi, thanks for kind explainations, however the site contains the specific rock climbing details at Ipoh at http://www.vertical-adventure.com/ipoh---the-lost-world-of-tambun.html, it will benefits people that looking for outdoor sports in Ipoh. would you mind to have this link added?
best regards 60.50.98.88 (talk) 03:45, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I do not make the rules. I only help enforce them. The rules on external links are very clear. Only official links are allowed. Even if I leave your link there, other editors will remove it. If we allow one link to be there, then every other sports group, etc. will insist on their links being allowed. Can you imagine how long the external links section will be? And if this is allowed on the article on Ipoh, then every other city will do the same. Can you imagine the activities available in New York City? Look at its external links section. They are all official sources and city specific (they deal directly with the city itself, not things that happen in the city). Wikipedia is not a directory. For that, there are many other listings/directories on the internet where you can list your site. -- S Masters (talk) 05:44, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- i think you have your point, i agreed with that. many thanks. 60.54.124.118 (talk) 06:39, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
sentence accuracy
Dear SMasters, I have been still developing DRMC as per the recommendations of peer review. By the way, I have to add the information in the Administration section that, "Since inception, the school most of the time have had a principal from the army." I'm not sure about the accuracy of the sentence and also unsure whether it meets the professional English level. So, could you help me ion this regard? -- Tanweer (talk) 14:03, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- What does "most of the time" mean? How many Principals? Let me know the years, if you know. The more info I have, the better I can structure the sentence. -- S Masters (talk) 14:23, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Actually I don't know the number of principals, years. I just know that except two or three times, the school has always got principals from the army. -- Tanweer (talk) 08:23, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- I would write this as: Since its inception, the school's Principal has almost always been appointed from the army. -- S Masters (talk) 09:07, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- That's alright. Thanks for your assistance. -- Tanweer (talk) 08:50, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello SMasters, Stafford here creator of NetBoy...
Thanks for the warm welcome to Wiki. I had a friend say the other day 'where is all the NetBoy webcomic history on Wiki?' So I went... Zoinks, I'm kinda obscure, so I must start this journey! What recommendations do you have for me to proceed? I have a nice chuck of articles to reference and i guess, it looks like my NetBoy was one of the starts of the webcomic movement. I really want to do this correctly and not step on any cartoonists toes. Can you help or really do I just jump in and learn from my mistakes? Oh, there are some cookies around here for you, I'm sure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shuywiki (talk • contribs) 04:58, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, it's not recommended for you to start an article about yourself or something that you created. There are many articles in Wikipedia on webcomics. I just helped copy edit one recently. Check out Category:Webcomics. I suggest you talk to one of the editors who are working on any of those articles. They will be more than happy to start it for you, and then you can help contribute and add to the article from there. Once that process starts, you can be bold and charge away. Hope that helps. :-) -- S Masters (talk) 05:11, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
yep all good for me. I agree about starting a page on myself, Now I'm getting the confident hang of wiki talk and will take your direction to communite with the editors first and get a dialog and trust, before one jumps in with bold updates. Now I need to learn how to send you wiki-cookies. Shuywiki (talk) 05:18, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

hello, again. After meditating and getting the brain more up-to-wiki-speed, I would like to offer you the first opportunity, by providing URLs for factually accurate and verifiable news articles. I was thinking, when you have the time, could you find yourself doing a look over and seeing what we could do to give more advice (or even doing write ups) to expand the netboy page and perhaps, that Stafford Huyler page? If you are unavailable, which I completely understand, the next choice is the Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics group. :) Shuywiki (talk) 21:20, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Good news, I went ahead and put the URL's in the discussion for Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics. Feel free to remove this talk post. I'm satisfied to go from here. Shuywiki (talk) 03:46, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- OK, good luck with that. Let me know if you need any other help. I leave all discussions as they are and they get archived later. Have a nice weekend! :-) -- S Masters (talk) 03:59, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
I see your strength as a editor and the desire to contribute to articles that may be award winning. I felt it was poor judgement to ask someone of your wiki-stature and to not make that available to all. But here are the links, if you are willing to go for it.
Content contributors for NetBoy, Stafford Huyler are wanted.
There are two factually accurate and verifiable news articles currently not referenced on those pages.
First is People Magazine from March 13th 1995 Vol 43 No 10 Byting the Hand
Second is The Milwaukee Journal / via the New York Times - Jan 17, 1995 Internet shows a sense of humor
This represent Webcomics historical facts and may be deemed important as NetBoy is still updated to this day.
You are great User:SMasters. Still getting my wiki-legs. Shuywiki (talk) 04:04, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

- It's not a problem at all. Give it a few days to see what the response is from Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics. Currently, I'm working mainly in the area of copy editing. I'm not an expert in comics and don't have a lot of time to add content to articles. So, I might not be the best person to help you with expanding the article. Let's see what happens in a few days. If no other editors comes on board, I'll see if I can help you verify the references. Cheers. -- S Masters (talk) 04:48, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
"Smoking Rockets, Commander!", that's great. Cheers -- Shuywiki (talk) 04:51, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
just wanted to drop you a hello... how was that Ren & Stimpy edit? those cartoons are crazy. No one has yet to come out of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics group and it looks like I have steped over WP:COI and WP:AUTO. ugh. What do you recommend I do from here to make the boo-boo better? :) Shuywiki (talk) 09:08, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hiya, yes the edit for the makers of Ren & Stimpy was really fun! :-) One of the more enjoyable articles I've edited. I think it's important for you to find more reliable external references and add them to the article. Without at least 4 or more of these, the article is in danger of being deleted. I was a bit upset today as one of the webcomics articles that I helped to copy edit was just deleted. What a waste of my time! See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Better Days (webcomic) (2nd nomination). I think you should read that to see the discussion, as you need to avoid falling into the same trap. If you have enough good references I'll try to take a look at it over the weekend. Cheers. -- S Masters (talk) 09:48, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
so sorry to hear that work went to naught. :( on our front yes there are more reliable articles. :) we'll gather them and chat on the weekend. - Tally-ho Shuywiki (talk) 10:05, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
cheerio, SMasters. Both articles for NetBoy and Stafford Huyler contain 4 references, now. 3 of them link out to online articles and we added these. the fourth is from the webcomics article that was used to show the comics place in history and we see that it does not link to an online article. My questions are these, first, is the article used from webcomics already verified, as this goes back many years from wiki. Second, there are a number of print articles without online reference, how do we go about seeing if they conform to verified and factually actuate news, and get them posted? Thanks in advance. Shuywiki (talk) 03:30, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
We just found the wired magazine article from oct-1994 that has the list of the first websites, with NetBoy being stated as "Comics for the hardcore geek" this was from page nine from the online article article " the second phase of the revolution has begun. this has not been added to the article references. What is the best step from here? Shuywiki (talk) 03:40, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Question
Hello. I created a page called Max Factor Family Museum. I'm new... I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I have edited the content quite a few times. It seems that it is in a USER mode. I would like to have the information as a part of the regular WIKIPEDIA encyclopedia...please Would you be able to guide me along? Or it as simple as placing the text in a new WIKI box without the USER mode?
"Thank you" for your time and thought. Steven : ) MaxFactorFamilyMuseum —Preceding unsigned comment added by MaxFactorFamilyMuseum (talk • contribs) 01:06, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, your user name is the same as the name of your article, and it is not recommended for you to start any article about yourself due to a conflict of interest (see: WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIO). However, once an article has started, you are allowed to help correct any information present provided that the facts are supported by references from external sources. The problem that you will face is that I (and therefore, other editors) can't find any references to "Max Factor Family Museum" in Google; nothing shows up in search or in news. As such, it will not be possible to verify the existence of such as museum. The official website is under construction, and this could be seen as an attempt to have a Wikipedia entry in order to drive traffic to the site when it is ready. Can you show me any external references to the existence of such a museum? -- S Masters (talk) 03:03, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Copy edit of Jagdgeschwader 11
I noticed that you copy edited the article. I ask myself why most of the German nouns such as Staffel and Gruppe are no longer capitalized. German spelling requires the capitalization of all nouns. MisterBee1966 (talk) 14:47, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- According to the article, Staffel means a fighter squadron, and Gruppe means group. As such, they should not be capitalized (unless there are exceptions), in compliance with WP:MoS. It is an English language article, not a German one. Accordingly, it needs to follow the rules for English, plus they are in italics to indicate its foreign status. Hope this answers your question. Cheers. -- S Masters (talk) 14:56, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes it is English but then you're not done yet. Staffelkapitän means squadron leader, Gruppenkommandeur means group commander and many more in the article. I think it looks awful using the German term and superimposing the English spelling. This way it is neither fish nor meat. MisterBee1966 (talk) 15:07, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- If I'm not mistaken those appear before the names of people, so it becomes a proper title, like Captain ABC. If you do not agree with me you are free to capitalize them back. I really have no issues with it. I understand that the article is going for GA and I'm just trying to help it comply with MoS. I do not make the rules, they are clearly stated there in the MoS. Cheers. -- S Masters (talk) 15:12, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

One Time GA Review
Here are some comments/concerns before I fix the other problems.
1. About the watermarked image, I removed it, but the FlickreviewR reverted it back to the original on Flickr.
2. I don't quite understand what you mean by "The lead must not mention anything that is not already contained in the sections." Can you elaborate? I thought the Lead has important points from the article.
3. The article is locked because the article was plagued with flagrant/inappropriate comments around the time of Bieber's latest album release date, so it was semi-protected for a month until buzz settles down.
4. About the numbers, music article editors on Wikipedia have insisted that chart numbers be written out, as seen in FA's and GA's like 4 Minutes (Madonna song), Just Dance, Hard (song), and Irreplaceable as examples. I had them in number form originally, but they were recommended to be written out in peer review and the first GA review.
5. The Billboard seems to be correct because "Billboard" is a thing and it is physical.
Besides these, I have corrected everything else.
Thanks!!! Candyo32 (talk) 21:04, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- 1. FlickreviewR is a robot. The digital watermarking templates suggests uploading a non-watermarked image under a new name. The image license allows for adaptation of the work.
- 2. Two examples: a) "One Time" is a song by Canadian recording artist Justin Bieber., and b) It is the first single released from his debut studio album, My World. - These two facts are presented in the lead but cannot be found anywhere else. Although we all know he's Canadian, we still need to follow the rules. Put that fact somewhere in the background section. Repeat the fact that it is the first single from My World in the relevant section. These are just two example I have pulled out. Ensure that there are no facts in the lead that do not appear anywhere else.
- 3. Ideally, the article should not be locked. I can see that it will be unlocked very shortly, so this should no longer be a problem.
- 4. I went through WP:CHART and WP:USCHART but do not see any official policy for this, which would be required to supersede WP:MoS. After reviewing your examples I will take your word on this. However, one hundred million should still be in numerical format - Irreplaceable lists its digital download numbers numerically.
- 5. I was treating it as a proper noun, therefore the article "the" is not necessary. However, as it is a publication, it can remain as it is.
- I prefer if any comments including fixes be left on the review page so that other editors can see any progress made. Thanks for your hard work.
- -- S Masters (talk) 03:40, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- I just noticed that the overlinking issues have not been fixed. Usher and About.com are two examples that I found. -- S Masters (talk) 04:02, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, the image is fixed. I think I got the overlinking, and I assume things that if things are linked in the lead can be linked again, but I'm not sure.
- Also, like with the numbers, it is just typical of FA & GA music articles to be like that ex. 4 Minutes (Madonna song), Déjà Vu (Beyoncé Knowles song), and I Can't Get No Satisfaction. However I tried to include the Lead info, I don't know if it is sufficient or not. Candyo32 (talk) 04:39, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- For wikilinks, if the article is very long, then it can be linked in the lead and then further down. However, this is a fairly short article. I would just link it once. The lead is still not completely fixed. For example, "The song was released as his debut single in the United Kingdom on January 4, 2010." - I can't find this date anywhere else in the article. The lead is a summary of what appears elsewhere in the article. Please go through each point in the lead and ensure that it is covered elsewhere in the article. (GA criteria) Thanks. -- S Masters (talk) 06:09, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

- Ok, the image is fixed. I think I got the overlinking, and I assume things that if things are linked in the lead can be linked again, but I'm not sure.
- Hopefully lead is covered, and no overlinks now! Candyo32 (talk) 18:18, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Jagdgeschwader 11 CopyEd
Hi Smasters,
Thanks for the copy ed. I have responded and clarified the areas as mentioned in the article. References were checked as part of the Review. WP:MOS was not the intention of the Reviewer, I think. Will check with the same. ' Perseus 71 talk 01:35, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
