Elma is located between Olympia and Aberdeen allowing a wider choice of colleges to attend to for Running Start.
The school serves grades 9 to 12 and enrolls around 735 students, with around 170 in the senior graduating class[1].
Television station
Eagles TV, on Comcast channel 26 serving Grays Harbor Country, is provided as a public service by the Video Productions and TV Broadcasting students of Elma High School. Programming is provided 24 hours a day, seven days week, 365 days a year by using computer automation.
Each morning students produce a television news show known as "Eagles Live". The program runs approximately 5 to 7 minutes and is aired during the beginning of 2nd period.
Controversy
In September 2003, Elma High School made news when the administration banned cheerleaders' short skirts[2]. Short skirts are allowed only at games and performances, not the hallways or classrooms. Parents argued that the new rule devalues the hard work the girls put into practicing, keeping up good grades, and raised money to buy the expensive uniforms.
Volleyball players are not allowed to wear their uniforms on game days even after school throughout the halls as it is against dress code to wear spandex.
Courses
Elma High School offers many different courses. Some of the courses include, but aren't limited to:
AP English English 101/201 Pre-Calculus Digital Photography Eagles TV (See Above) Weight Lifting Aerobics (Advanced) PE Algebra Wood shop Auto Shop Agriculture Biology Spanish 1, 2, 3 German 1, 2 Yearbook Leadership Business Digital Design
Unfortunately most of the courses are subject to poor instructional strategies and lack fundamental seriousness for effective learning, leading administrators to either ignore the situation or cease the course.
