David Silver is a fictional character from the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise, introduced in the first series. He was portrayed by Brian Austin Green. David is the stepbrother of Kelly Taylor—becoming so after his father married her mother—and is also the youngest of the group of friends. During high school David is one year behind the rest of the group as he is one year younger; he later catches up to them academically by taking a double course load that allows him to graduate with the class of 1993. He then enrolls at California University with the rest of the core group and graduates in 1997.

Family

David grew up with his father Mel Silver and his mother Sheila Silver. Some time during David's teen years his mother left the two of them and moved away - leaving David behind with his father. Years later David finds out that his mother is manic depressive when he finds her living on the street. He brings her to a hospital and his father tells him everything about her past. Meanwhile Mel has married Kelly Taylor's mother Jackie Taylor. Happy to finally have a real family again David felt safe with Kelly as his sister and Jackie as his mom. After his father cheated on Jackie and the two got divorced, David stayed with the Taylor's and his new born sister Erin Silver until he graduated from high school. Even with Jackie and Mel being divorced, David and Kelly always felt like siblings and cared much about each other.

High school years

David starts out his freshman year in high school with one friend, Scott Scanlon. He tried to become friends with the core group of the show, who are sophomores. David became part of the in crowd while Scott remained a geek, until his accidental shooting death in the middle of his and David's sophomore year. David and Donna's friendship turned into romance. David had problems throughout the series with drugs, and in Season 5 it was revealed he inherited some self-destructive tendencies from his mother, who was manic depressive. In the 1992-93 season, David tried his hand at music by making a demo tape of his keyboard playing & singing. He gives it to Steve, hoping for a shot at a record deal. When Steve plays the tape in his car, Kelly complained about him playing David's music. Steve was surprised it was really him playing. So Steve becomes David's manager. His first gig was at a beach resort (after Steve bribed the band not to show up). The next gig was the Pigskin Prom at West Beverly High, where David formed a band (The Commotions). When they tried to get a record company interested, they were rejected because it sounds like a kid playing in a garage as a hobby.

Relationships

David was involved with many women during the series including Clare Arnold (Season 5), Valerie Malone (most of Season 6 and 8), and Gina Kincaid (some of Season 10), who turned out to be Donna's half-sister, camile(season 10)but he ended up with the woman he truly loved, Donna Martin, whom he married in the series finale.

Post high school

After graduating from CU, David began running the Peach Pit After Dark, but his terrible business skills led the club into financial ruin, and his plan to make his name in the recording industry (something he had had great highs and lows with in previous seasons) ended when he refused to back a band whose members turned out to be neo-Nazis. He went from working odd jobs to being a music critic to getting another big break in the music biz to writing commercial jingles to the job that carried him to the end of the season as an FM radio disc jockey.

Missing Years

Some time after 2000, Donna and David eventually moved to Japan. He begins to pursue a career in the music business where he discovers new talent. He eventually discovers a 15 year old Japanese rapper who has become really popular. David eventually fathers a baby girl with Donna, named Ruby. However, their relationship began to hit a rough patch as they are unable to decide where to raise Ruby, Japan or Beverly Hills.

David is still in Japan while Donna and their daughter Ruby go back to Beverly Hills. His career in the music industry has really taken off and has made him financially wealthy.

Donna and David have hit a rough patch in their marriage because Donna wants to move back to Beverly Hills and start her own fashion store, while he wants to stay in Japan. After Donna finds the place for the store she talks to David about about it and wants to know if he will come back too, Donna is shocked when he decides to stay in Japan rather than moving back with her. Donna cries in Kelly's arm, telling her that she expected David to pick her not Japan. At the opening of her new store, David sends flowers and a card to Donna, which says, "Thinking of You".
