Sarah Outen, a Briton, is the first woman to row solo across the Indian Ocean.

Starting from Fremantle, Western Australia, on April 1 2009, Sarah rowed for 124 days, 14 hours and 9 minutes before arriving at Bois des Amourettes, on the island of Mauritius, on August 3, 2009. She was the first woman to attempt the crossing single-handedly, and only the fourth person to ever complete a solo crossing.

She has raised more than £13,000 for Arthritis Care by completing the crossing, which she undertook in memory of her father Derek, after his death in 2006.
