2009–10 Football League

The Football League 2009–10, entitled the Coca-Cola Football League, is the 18th season under its current league division format. It will begin in August 2009 and will conclude in May 2010, with the promotion play-off finals.

The Football League is contested through three Divisions. The divisions are the League Championship, League One and League Two. The winner and the runner up of the League Championship will be automatically promoted to the Premier League and they will be joined by the winner of the League Championship playoff. The bottom two teams in League Two will be relegated to the Conference National.

A total of 24 teams will contest the division, including 18 currently competing sides, three relegated from the Premier League, three promoted from League One. Barnsley, Blackpool, Bristol City, Cardiff City, Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Derby County, Doncaster Rovers, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Peterborough United, Plymouth Argyle, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers, Reading, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City, Watford and West Bromwich Albion will play in the Championship next season.

League One

Brentford, Bristol Rovers, Charlton Athletic, Colchester United, Exeter City, Gillingham, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Leyton Orient, Milton Keynes Dons, Millwall, Norwich City, Oldham Athletic, Southampton, Southend United, Stockport County, Swindon Town, Walsall, Wycombe Wanderers and Yeovil Town will all play in League One next season.

A total of 24 teams will contest the division, including 18 currently competing sides, four relegated from the League One, two promoted from Conference National 2008-09. A.F.C. Bournemouth, Accrington Stanley, Aldershot Town, Barnet, Bradford City, Burton Albion, Bury, Cheltenham Town, Chesterfield, Crewe Alexandra, Darlington, Hereford United, Lincoln City, Macclesfield Town, Morecambe, Northampton Town, Notts County, Port Vale, Rochdale, Rotherham United, Shrewsbury Town and Torquay United will play in League Two next season.
