Dick Brown was a Canadian-born journalist (from Ottawa?) whose sardonic wit enlivened the Rewrite Desk at The Telegram in 1960-61. His most noted exchange was with a Bell Telephone Directory Assistance operator who chided Dick that the telephone number he was asking about was listed in the phone book. "But operator," said Brown, "I'm blind." Said the operator (and we could hear her blush): "Oh, I'm sorry!" Said Dick: "So am I, operator."

The following Dick Brown had nothing to do with The Telegram.

Richard ‘Dick’ Brown was a rugby league player in the Australian competition – the New South Wales Rugby League(NSWRL).

A hooker, Brown played in 84 matches for the Eastern Suburbs club in the years 1927-29 and 1931-33. Brown was a member of premiership deciders in 1928 and 1931, losing to local rival South Sydney on both occasions.
