Lockdown (2008) was the fourth annual Lockdown professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2008. The event took place on April 13 2008 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts.[1] The official theme song for the event was "Nothing to Lose" by Operator.[3][4] As a tradition, every match took place inside the Six Sides of Steel.
The main event was for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, and the two wrestlers competing for the championship were Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe.[1] Joe won by pinfall, after performing a Muscle Buster on Angle. The predominant match on the card was a Lethal Lockdown match between Team Cage (Christian Cage, Kevin Nash, Rhino, Sting, and Matt Morgan)[1] and Team Tomko (Tomko, A.J. Styles, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon), and James Storm).[1] Team Cage won the match after Rhino pinned Storm following a Gore. The primary match on the undercard featured Booker T and Sharmell versus Robert Roode and Payton Banks in a mixed tag team match,[1] which Booker and Sharmell won after Sharmell pinned Banks with a roll-up. Other matches on the undercard included B.G. James versus Kip James[1] and the annual X Division Xscape match for the TNA X Division Championship.[1]
Background
The main feud heading into Lockdown was between Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe, with the two battling over the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. This feud restarted after Management Director Jim Cornette announced that Joe would fight Angle for the title at TNA's all Steel Cage pay-per-view Lockdown, on the March 13 edition of iMPACT!.[5][6] During the weeks leading up to Lockdown, Joe said that if he did not win the title at Lockdown, then he would quit professional wrestling forever.[6][7] Joe then did not show up on iMPACT! for several weeks, the reason being he was (kayfabe) training for his and Angle's world title match.[8][9][10][11] During the time of Joe's training, Angle was also training. He faced new opponents on iMPACT! each week in MMA fights.[12][13] In one of these fights, Tomko and A.J. Styles switched back and forth every sixty seconds to fight Angle.[8][10] During Angle's time training, Angle said that he would beat Joe at Lockdown to show to all of the world that he was the best wrestler in the business today.[6]
The secondary feud going into Lockdown was between the two teams competing in the annual Lethal Lockdown match. The team captains announced by Jim Cornette on the March 13 edition of iMPACT! were Tomko and Christian Cage.[5][6] This feud started when Tomko turned on Cage at Against All Odds in Cage's World Heavyweight title match against Kurt Angle.[14] Tomko decided that his teammates would be Styles and Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon).[5][6][13] Cage decided on Rhino and Kevin Nash as his teammates.[12][5][6] Then later on iMPACT!, while Team Cage was in a brawl with Team Tomko, a promo came on the TitanTron, showing the return of Sting.[12][13] Sting returned the next week on the first "Live iMPACT!" during a brawl between Team Cage and Team Tomko.[8][10] During the brawl, Team Tomko gained the advantage and proceed to beat down each member of Team Cage, until Team 3D brought tables into the ring. Before they could use their signature tables, the lights went off and came back on with Sting appearing in the ring with a baseball bat.[8] He then attacked each member of Team Tomko with the bat until they all left the ring. After this, another match was made for the night between Sting, Cage, Rhino, and Nash versus Styles, Tomko, and Team 3D in a tag team match, which Team Cage won.[8][10] After the match, Team Cage was celebrating its victory when James Storm attacked Sting, hitting him with a beer bottle in the back of the head.[8][10] On the April 3 edition of iMPACT!, Matt Morgan allowed Team Tomko to place Storm on the team.[9][11] This in turn allowed Team Cage to add another member to its Team, who turned out to be Morgan.[9][11]
The primary match on the undercard was between Booker T and Sharmell, and Robert Roode and Payton Banks. This feud started after Booker made his debut in TNA at Genesis in 2007. Roode was unhappy that outsiders were coming to TNA and, in turn, pushing him further down the ladder of success. Later, Roode accidentally hit Booker's wife (Sharmell) at Final Resolution. Booker and Roode then fought at Against All Odds and Destination X. After their match at Destination X, Sharmell returned and hit everyone around the ring, including Security, Roode, Payton Banks, and Jim Cornette, with a leather strap. On the March 20 edition of iMPACT!, Cornette placed Booker T and Sharmell in a match at Lockdown against Roode and Banks.[12][13]
In the Women's division, Gail Kim and O.D.B were feuding with Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed. At Destination X, Gail Kim, ODB, and Awesome Kong were involved in a Triple Threat match for the TNA Knockouts World Championship. Awesome Kong prevailed, pinning ODB after performing an Awesome Bomb, which followed Saeed tripping O.D.B from the outside. This caused O.D.B and Kim to get frustrated with Saeed, wanting a match with her because she kept costing them their chances at the championship. A match was then made to take place at Lockdown involving O.D.B and Gail Kim vs Saeed and Awesome Kong. In the weeks leading up to Lockdown, Kong and Saeed viciously attacked Kim and O.D.B on iMPACT!.[6]
Another feud heading into Lockdown was between former James Gang partners B.G. James and Kip James. Kip was angry that BG teamed with his father Bob Armstrong when he used his Feast or Fired Tag Team Championship title shot, instead of choosing Kip as his partner. At Against All Odds, BG and Bob Armstrong failed in their attempt to win the Tag Team Championship in a match against AJ Styles and Tomko, after a Tornado-Plex on BG allowed Styles and Tomko to pin him. A rematch took place on iMPACT!, but BG was injured so Kip took his place in the match. During the match, Kip attacked Armstrong and BG. Later, a match was made for Lockdown. In the weeks leading up to the event, TNA aired special video packages about Kip and BG's friendship and history together as a tag team. These video segments were called Rough Cut.[6][13][8][9][10][7]
Another match to take place at Lockdown was the annual X Division Xscape match for the TNA X Division Championship. Champion Jay Lethal defended the X Division Championship against Johnny Devine, Sonjay Dutt, Curry Man, Shark Boy, and Consequences Creed. Each man (besides Lethal) fought in qualification matches on iMPACT! to determine who would fight in the match. The first qualification match was between Curry Man and Petey Williams on the March 13 edition of iMPACT!, which was won by Curry Man.[5][6] The second was between Sonjay Dutt and Homicide on the March 20 edition of iMPACT!, which Sonjay won.[12][13] The third was on the March 27 edition of iMPACT!, between Johnny Devine and Alex Shelly, which Devine won after pinning Shelly following a shot to the head with a camera.[8][10] The fourth and fifth matches were on the April 03 edition of iMPACT! and the April 10 edition. The matches were Shark Boy versus Elix Skipper,[9] and the debuting, Consequences Creed versus Jimmy Rave. Shark Boy would win the first bout by pinning Skipper following a Chummer.[9][11] Creed would win the second after performing a Creed-DT on Rave and then pinning him.[15][7]

Before the event began, TNA played its new Cross the Line promotional video.
The pay-per-view (PPV) began with a pre-tape of Mike Tenay inside the Six Sides of Steel, where he promoted the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match between Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle, and reminded everyone that if Joe lost, he had to retire.[16][17][18] A package was then shown promoting Lockdown and the fact that all of the matches were Six Sides of Steel matches.[16][17][18] This was followed by a graphic design welcoming the viewers to Lockdown.[18] After the design, video switched to a live crowd at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts, where a series of pyrotechnics went off at the entrance ramp as the theme for Lockdown played in the background.[18] Don West and Jeremy Borash were shown in different points of the crowd, talking to the fans and asking their opinions on who would win the match between Joe and Angle.[16][17][18] Mike Tenay sat at ringside and promoted the rest of the card.[16][18]
The first match of the event was the Xscape match for the TNA X Division Championship.[16] The rules of the match state that it begins as an elimination match, and continues in this fashion until only two wrestlers remain. Then, the only way to win is to escape the cage. The participants were Jay Lethal, Curry Man, Shark Boy, Johnny Devine, Sonjay Dutt, and Consequences Creed.[16] Before the match began, Mike Tenay went down the X-Factors. The order of entrances were as follows: Curry Man, Johnny Devine, Consequences Creed, Sonjay Dutt, Shark Boy, and last, the champion, Jay Lethal.[18] After Lethal entered the ring the match officially began. The beginning of the match was dominated by Lethal and Dutt, as they tagged together to try to eliminate all the competitors. However, they failed, as Dutt was eliminated first in the match by Devine with a roll-up.[16][17][18] Following Dutt's elimination, the match continued with Shark Boy dominating until Creed performed the Creed-DT on Shark Boy to get the pin and to eliminate him from the match.[16][17][18] After Shark Boy's elimination, Creed dominated the match until Curry Man hit a senton from the top of the cage and a Spice Rack on Creed to get the pin and to eliminate him.[16][17][18] After Curry Man eliminated Creed, he started a fight with Lethal. In the fight, Curry Man hit the Spice Rack and went for the pin but it was broken up by Devine.[16][17][18] He then immediately performed the Devine-Intervention on Curry Man to get the pin and eliminate him.[16][17][18] Because of Curry Man's elimination, the rules of the match changed. The only way to win now was to escape the cage. Devine then removed the tape on his wrist and tied Lethal to the top rope.[16][17][18] Afterwards, Devine tried to escape the cage but, was stopped by Sonjay Dutt, who never left the ring area.[16][17][18] Dutt stood on the outside of the cage and kept the cage door shut, not allowing referees to open it, nor allowing Devine to escape through the door.[16][17] Due to this, Devine tried to climb the cage to the outside.[16][17][18] While Devine was climbing, Dutt untied Lethal, who was tied on the other side of the ring.[16][17][18] Following Lethal being untied, he ran through the open door, held open by SoCal Val and Dutt, to the outside of the ring and hit the floor to win the match.[16][17][18] By his victory, he retained the TNA X Division Championship.[16][17][18]
After the Xscape match, Dutt, SoCal, and Lethal all celebrated as they walked backstage.[16][17][18] Video footage then switched to a interview between Frank Trigg and Jeremy Borash.[16][17][18] Borash asked Trigg what he thought of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match that night and who was going to come out the victor. Trigg replied that he felt that Angle would.[16][18] He felt that Joe has had too many shots and was not going to win since he failed to do so many times in the past.[17]
The following match was the Queen of Cage Match for Number One Contendership to the TNA Knockouts World Championship.[16] All of the Knockouts started on the outside of the cage, and then fought each other to climb up the cage and enter the ring. After two of them made it into the ring, there was a regular match between those two competitors. The participants were Roxxi Laveaux, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Salinas, Rhaka Khan, Traci Brooks, Christy Hemme, and Jacqueline.[16] The order of entrances were, Christy Hemme, Salinas, Jacqueline, Traci Brooks, The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky and Angelina Love), Rhaka Khan, and Roxxi Laveaux.[18] Before the match began the ring announcer, Dave Penzer, stated the rules. The match then officially began with referee Rudy Charles. The two women to enter the cage were Angelina Love and Roxxi Laveaux respectively.[16][18] Half way through the match, Love hit the Lights Out on Laveaux to get a near fall. Afterwards she went for a straddle pin, but Laveaux kicked out of it and slammed Love into the steel cage.[17][18] With Love dazed and confused, Laveaux picked her up and performed the Voodoo Drop to get the pin. With the victory, she became the Number One Contender to the Knockouts Championship, and the first ever Queen of the Cage.[16][17][18]
Immediately following the match, a pre-taped interview between Lauren Thompson and Samoa Joe aired.[16][18] Lauren asked Joe what was on his mind, with all that was riding on the main event that night between him and Angle.[18] Joe responded that he had not even put one thought into thinking about losing.[16][17] There was only one out-come to the match, and that was him coming out the victor. He would give up his career, life, and everything else to have what Kurt had, and that was the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.[17][18] he also said that he did not place one hand on Kurt in the weeks prior to the event because he wanted Kurt to be at his very best.[17][18] That way, when the night was over and done with, when he was the victor, he would know that he was without a doubt the rightful TNA World Heavyweight Champion.[16][17]
Before the next match, there was a promo to promote it.[16][17][18] Kip James claimed that he would become a tiger inside the Six Sides of Steel. It then switched to B.G. James saying how angry he was with what Kip did to his dad, and that he would get revenge on Kip. The promo ended with a graphic design of Kip and BG. The third match between the duo began, lasting about seven minutes. The first one to enter the ring was Kip James, followed by BG. It was mostly dominated by Kip until the final minutes. The finish came when Kip went for a Stinger Splash, but BG jumped out of the way. After Kip bounced off the top turnbuckle BG rolled him up to get the pin.[16][17][18] Following the match, BG helped Kip up off the ground. Afterwards Kip raised BG's hand in victory to show a sign of friendship, but he then pulled BG into a short-arm clothesline.[16][17][18]
Following their match, another pre-taped interview aired.[18] This interview was between Jeremy Borash and Kurt Angle.[16][18] Borash asked Angle, who was in a very strange but focused look[16], what was so important about his match with Samoa Joe later that night. Angle replied that while he was with World Wrestling Entertainment, the company threw everyone it could at him and he beat them all, he made them tap-out.[17][18] No one in the WWE took him to the limit.[18] That was when he started watching the competition, he started watching TNA.[17][18] There, he saw a man by the name of Samoa Joe.[18] He thought that maybe Joe could take him to the limit. On the four occasions he wrestled Joe, he did, to a point that if it went just one more second he did not know if he could have taken it.[17][18] So, he had to take drastic measures.[17][18] He must he must beat him, he must make him tap-out, he must end his career.[16][17][18]
The next match was the Cuffed in the Cage match, where there were six teams locked inside the Six Sides of Steel. The only way to win was to handcuff all of the teams to the cage with handcuffs, until there was only one team member left. That person would win his team a future TNA World Tag Team Championship match. The participating teams were: Kaz and Eric Young, The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelly) (MCMG), Rellik and Black Reign, The Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Hernandez) (LAX), Scott Steiner and Petey Williams, and The Rock 'N Rave Infection (Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave) (RNRI). The order of entrances were: RNRI, Kaz, Reign and Rellik, MCMG, LAX, and Steiner and Williams. Before the match, Reign and Rellik attacked Kaz's partner Eric Young backstage and brutally beat him down.[17][18] Because of this, Kaz had to compete the match alone until Young recovered from his injuries. The match lasted about eleven minutes. The beginning was dominated by Scott Steiner as he suplexed almost everyone in sight.[17] However, Reign, Rellik, Hoyt, and Kaz all ganged up on him to cuff him to the cage.[17][18] Immediately following Steiner's elimination, Eric Young entered the arena and walked to the ring.[17][18][18] When he got to the ring, he tried to open the door, but it was locked. He then tried to climb up the side of the cage, but he was intimidated by Reign and Rellik.[16][17][18] He then climbed down and returned to the backstage area.[16][17][18] A few moments later, the second to be handcuffed was Alex Shelly by Petey Williams.[17][18] No less than a minute later, his partner Chris Sabin was cuffed as well by Kaz.[17][18] Homicide was then cuffed by Rellik, and Williams was cuffed by Reign. The next to be cuffed was Hernandez, by Reign.[17] A little over a minute after Hernandez was cuffed, Lance Hoyt performed a chokeslam from the top rope on Kaz. Immediately following the chokeslam Kaz was cuffed.[17][18] The match was then down to Black Reign and Rellik and Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave. That would change, however, as Super Eric's (Eric Young in a different gimmick) music played.[16] He then entered the arena and ran to the ring. he climbed up the side of the cage, and performed a splash from the top of the cage onto Rellik, Reign, Hoyt, and Rave in the middle of the ring.[16][17][18] He then stood up and cuffed Rave and Hoyt after a back body drop on Hoyt into the cage door.[16][17][18] Afterwards, Rellik and Reign gained the upper hand and beat him down until Rellik and Reign together tried to cuff Eric to the cage. However, Eric tricked Rellik and cuffed him instead.[17][18] A few moments later, Eric would cuff Reign to the cage after performing a Death Valley Driver on him.[16][17][18] Because of Eric being the last left, he and his partner Kaz won a future TNA World Tag Team Championship match.
Lauren Thompson was then seen interviewing Samoa Joe's family.[16][17][18][18] She asked Joe's father what he thought the outcome of the main event would be. He responded that Joe, without a doubt, was going to win that night.[16][17][18] He was there to support his son, win or lose, no mater what.[17][18]
A promo then aired about Awesome Kong, how she was a dominating force in TNA with her manager Raisha Saeed. It would switch mid-way through into a promo for their match with Gail Kim and O.D.B..[16][17][18] The promo ended with a graphic design about their match. The main match from the Knockouts division was next: Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed versus Gail Kim and O.D.B. The match was around eight and a half minutes. The first team to enter the ring was Kong and Saeed. The match began with O.D.B and Awesome Kong, but less than a minute later they both tagged out.[17] Kong and Saeed dominated most of the match. The finish came when Kong went for a spinning back fist on O.D.B, but O.D.B jumped out of the way, causing Kong to accidentally hit her partner Saeed.[16][17][18] Kim then hit a missile dropkick on Kong to make her unable to defend her partner.[16][17] Then, O.D.B climbed to the center of the top rope and perform a splash on Saeed to get the pin.[16][17][18]
Following the match, video footage changed to an interview between Jeremy Borash and Kurt Angle's wife Karen Angle.[16][17][18] Borash asked her what she was doing there that night, seeing as she and her husband Kurt were separated at that time.[18] She then replied that she was there to support her husband.[16][17][18]
A promo was then shown to promote the next match between Booker T and Sharmell, and Robert Roode and Payton Banks.[18] It briefly showed the history of their feud leading up to Lockdown.[18] It would end with a graphic design of Booker T, Sharmel, Roode, and Banks. Immediately following the promo, the match began, with Roode and Banks entering first. The match lasted a little over seven and a half minutes. The match began with Booker T and Roode about to square off, with Booker trying to make sure his wife (Sharmell) didn't enter the match. While he was preoccupied, Roode jumped Booker and began to beat him down with chops to the chest. However, Booker became enraged and fought back with chops of his own. The match then went back and forth between the two. The finish came when Sharmell was being held by Roode for Banks to slap her, but Sharmell hit a low bow on Roode and jumped out of the way as Banks slapped Roode.[16][17][18] Sharmell then rolled Banks up to get the pin.[16][17][18] Following the match, Booker and Sharmell celebrated their victory. After they left the ring, Roode and Banks had a confrontation.[16][18] Roode called Banks stupid and blamed her for their lost. He then left the ring and returned to the backstage area, while leaving a visibly crying Banks in the ring alone.[16][17][18]
A interview was then seen between UFC fighter Marcus Davis, who trained Samoa Joe for his TNA World Heavyweight Championship match that night, and Lauren Thompson.[16][17][18] Lauren asked what Joe's training schedule had been. Davis replied that they had worked on everything from attacks to grappling to every type of MMA fighting style there is.[18] The following question was What would Samoa Joe have to do to beat Kurt Angle?. The answer: Joe would have to implement everything he had learned in the past few weeks of training inside the Six Sides of Steel.[16][17][18] Following the interview, there was a video promotion of the Lethal Lockdown match between Team Cage and Team Tomko.[16][17][18]
The seventh match was the Lethal Lockdown match between Team Cage (Christian Cage, Kevin Nash, Rhino, Sting, and Matt Morgan) and Team Tomko (Tomko, A.J. Styles, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon), and James Storm (with Jacqueline)). The rules of the match stated that it begins with two wrestlers. They stay locked inside the cage for five minutes, until another wrestler enters the match from either team. Members from each team then enter every two minutes. In this particular match, first one from Team Tomko, and then two minutes later one from Team Cage. No pin-falls or submissions take place until all members from both teams are in the ring. Then, a ceiling lowers with weapons attached to the bottom and the top of it. This match lasted nearly twenty-seven and a half minutes. It was set to begin with the captains from each team (Christian Cage and Tomko), but while Cage was waiting in the ring for Tomko to enter, AJ Styles climbed up the side of the cage behind him and did a flying forearm strike from the top rope, when the lights came back on, to the back of Cage's head.[16][17][18] The match then began as referee Earl Hebner gave the signal to ring the bell.
Styles and Cage fought back and forth for five minutes. Then, Brother Ray entered the match to help beat down Cage with Styles.[16][17][18] Two minutes later, Rhino from Team Cage entered.[16][17][18] Following another two minutes James Storm, with Jacqueline, entered from Team Tomko.[16][17][18] Before the next entrance, Cage and Styles were fighting on the top of the cage. Cage started to climb down the outside of the cage to keep himself from falling off, at which point Brother Ray hit Cage's fingers from inside of the cage. Cage then fell near 10 feet to the concrete floor below. Following this spot, Kevin Nash entered from Team Cage.[16][17][18] With this addition to Team Cage, they dominated the match until the next entrance, which was Brother Devon.[16][17][18] With Devon added, Team Tomko regained the advantage. Two minutes later, Matt Morgan entered and gave the advantage to Team Cage by dominating every Team Tomko member.[16][17] After another two minutes, the final member of Team Tomko entered; the team captain, Tomko.[16][17][18] He entered the match with a steel chair, but it was taken by referee Earl Hebner. As the final two minutes went by, the fans in attendance rose to their feet as Sting, who was the last member from Team Cage and the last to enter Lethal Lockdown, entered the match.[16][17][18] With Sting's entrance, the landscape of the match changed, now pin-falls and submissions could take place, and the ceiling was lowered, covered with Trash cans, steel chairs, kendo sticks, trash can lids, a table, and a ladder.[17] As soon as the ceiling finished lowering, every participant grabbed as many weapons as possible. They then started to beat each other with them. While most of the members were fighting, Storm and Cage climbed through a small hole in the ceiling to the roof of the cage.[17] There they started to fight with the weapons that were up on top.[17] Meanwhile, Styles became the dominate wrestler inside of the cage, and attacked every member of Team Cage that he could find with a kendo stick. While everyone was down, he then ascended to the roof of the cage, where he began to help Storm. After Cage was incapacitated, he placed him on a table that Cage had set up earlier. He then set up a ladder and started to climb it as Storm encouraged him on. Meanwhile, Cage stood up and made his way to Styles and Storm, where he attacked Storm and laid him out. Cage then ascended to the top of the ladder to fight Styles. Storm later woke up and pushed the ladder over, which fell in the direction of the middle, towards a table set up earlier. Styles and Cage both crashed through it.[16][17][18] Storm then climbed down into the cage and cracked a beer bottle over the head of Matt Morgan.[16][17] [18] As Storm turned around, Rhino performed a Gore on him to get the pin and the victory for Team Cage.[16][18][17]
Immediately following Lethal Lockdown, a promo aired covering the feud between Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle and also promoting their match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.[16][17][18] It once again reminded the viewers that if Joe losses, he has to retire from professional wrestling forever.
The main event was for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, between the champion Kurt Angle, and the challenger Samoa Joe. While Joe was making his way to the entrance ramp, Mike Tenay, with Don West and special guest commentator Frank Trigg[16][17][18], stated each man's statistics and debated who had the edge going into the title match. The first to enter the ring was Samoa Joe, who walked to the entrance ramp in an MMA styled entrance.[17][18] Before Joe entered the arena, Samoan fire dancers came out and performed for the crowd, as a tradition in Joe's Samoan heritage.[16][17][18] Following the performance, Joe entered the arena and walked to the ring. Before Joe entered the ring, a small video package was shown to hype what a dominating force Joe was in TNA.[16][17][18] Immediately after Joe entered the ring, Angle's entrance began as a camera followed him to the entrance ramp with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship around his waist.[16][17][18] Another video package played, this time hyping up Angle's accomplishments in TNA and in his career.[16][17][18] Jeremy Borash was seen in the ring with both the Champion and Challenger, as well as Joe's trainer Marcus Davis, who was to present the victor the TNA Championship[16][17], and referee Rudy Charles. Introductions were then done for all of them.[16][17] When introductions came to Joe and Angle it switched to MMA and Professional Boxing style introductions. Video switched to Kurt Angle's wife Karen Angle, who was sitting in attendance.[16][17][18] Angle became enraged, and demanded that she be removed from the building.[16][17][18] She was escorted by security out of the building screaming obscenities.[16][17][18] Following her removal, the match began as Rudy Charles called for the bell. From the beginning to the end, it was back and forth action, with chain wrestling, punches, slams, kicks, and submission maneuvers dominating the match.[16][17][18] There were counters from one submission move to another as each man tried to take the lead.[16][17] The match lasted seventeen minutes thirty-four seconds. After Joe slammed Angle against the cage wall and followed with a superkick to the throat, He then placed Angle on the top rope and set him up for the Muscle Buster.[16][17][18] After he performed the move, he pinned Angle to get the win and his first World Heavyweight Championship.[16][17][18] His trainer, Marcus Davis, presented him with the TNA Championship immediately following his victory.[16][18] A highlight package was shown featuring the hard hits that stood out during the match, including the finish. Joe celebrated his victory alone in the ring after his win.[17][18]
The show went off air with a promo for TNA's next pay-per-view Sacrifice, and a video package announcing that Lockdown had been a presentation by TNA.[18]
Aftermath
The feud between Joe and Angle continued on iMPACT!. Angle claimed to have a rematch clause in his contract during a segment between Joe and Scott Steiner, who was set to have a match at Sacrifice against the TNA World Heavyweight Champion.[19][20] Joe and Angle fought again on the April 27 2008 edition of iMPACT! for the World Heavyweight Championship.[21][22] Joe won after performing a Muscle Buster, which followed Steiner hitting Angle with a lead pipe.[21][22] Due to the controversy stemming from Steiner costing Angle his match, Management Director Jim Cornette made the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match at Sacrifice a Triple Threat match between Joe, Steiner, and Angle.[21] The match, however, never happened because Angle was legitimately injured during a match in Korea. Cornette said the Triple Threat would still happen even though Angle was injured. He then stated that the winner of the debuting match, the TerrorDome, would take Angle's place in the match. Kaz won the TerrorDome and therefore took Angle's place in the match.
The X Division Champion Jay Lethal later lost the title to Petey Williams because of Williams cashing in his Feast or Fired Briefcase, which had an X Division Championship match in it to be used whenever he chose.[19][20]
On iMPACT, World Tag Team Champions A.J. Styles and Tomko defended the titles against The Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Hernandez) and a team composed of Kaz and Eric Young, which Kaz and Young won when Young left the match and returned in his "Super Eric" gimmick.[19][20] Styles then claimed that Young and Super Eric were two different people.[20] As a result, Jim Cornette vacated the tag titles,[20] and he set up a tournament to crown the new tag team champions called The Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament.[21][22] The tournament had eight established tag teams fight against each other, but only four teams moved on to the tournament to fight eight singles wrestlers that were to be placed together to make 4 tag teams.[21] The eight single wrestlers were called the "Egotistical Eight" and were Robert Roode, Booker T, Sting, Matt Morgan, James Storm, B.G. James, Kip James, and Awesome Kong. They made up four teams: Booker T and Roode, Sting and Storm, Kip and Morgan, and BG and Kong. The four established teams to move on were Team 3D,[22] Christian Cage and Rhino,[22] The Latin American Xchange (LAX), and A.J. Styles and Super Eric (Super Eric was a replacement for Tomko who had been kayfabe injured in Japan).
The feud between Team Cage and Team Tomko slowly died down afterwards. Cage and Rhino formed a tag team and went after the World tag titles in the Deuces Wild tag tournament. Meanwhile, Styles and Tomko broke up because of Styles losing their Tag Team titles. Styles later turned face because of Tomko attacking him on episode of iMPACT!.

Notes
- On April 12 in Lowell, Massachusetts, TNA had a TNA Lockdown Fan Interaction.[24] Where many TNA Stars including Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Velvet Sky, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon), and Christian Cage were there to take photographs, sign autographs, and meet and greet with TNA Fans.[24] TNA usually does this with each of TNA's biggest pay-per-views; Slammiversary, Lockdown and Bound for Glory.
- Tickets for the event went on sale on February 29 2008.[4]
