Lei Wulong (Chinese: 雷 武龍 Pinyin: Léi Wǔlóng, Japanese: レイ・ウーロン Rei Uron) is a fictional character from the Tekken fighting game series. The Chinese characters in his name literally translates to Thunder Martial (Arts) Dragon. The character is a homage to Jackie Chan, using fighting styles influenced from his period kung fu films (Notably Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow), and a backstory similar to Chan's in his Police Story film series. He is one of four characters who appears in all but one game (Lei does not appear in Tekken 1, Anna Williams does not appear in Tekken 4, and Kazuya Mishima and Lee Chaolan do not appear in Tekken 3).

History

Tekken 2 - 3

During Tekken 2 and Tekken 3, Lei was a respected police officer, dubbed "super cop", who put countless criminals behind bars. He was investigating the illegal hunting and trading of endangered animals done by the Mishima Zaibatsu during Tekken 2 and fought Bruce Irvin, who was working for Kazuya Mishima. Lei defeated Bruce, who escaped in an airplane, but it crashed. Before Tekken 3 he is investigating the drug dealer Bryan Fury, before Bryan is "killed."

Tekken 4

In Tekken 4, he sets out to stop the English Mob and the assassin, Nina Williams, who was sent to kill a British boxer, Steve Fox, in order to restore his waning reputation. He tracks down Nina and prevents her from killing Steve, but he could not stop her from escaping through a window. Upon chasing after Nina, he had her at gunpoint, but Steve intervened and saved Nina by tackling Lei to the ground.

Tekken 5

Lei enters The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 to search for Feng Wei, the man that has been destroying dojos in China and Japan. Asuka Kazama is also searching for Feng because he nearly killed her father, who was one of the dojo owners sought by Feng Wei. Lei informs her about Feng and that it is possible he might enter the fifth tournament. He is also attempting to destroy the Mishima Zaibatsu with the help of Steve Fox.

In pursuit of Feng Wei for his criminal offenses, the military sends Lei to Japan. As the trail for Feng Wei is unsuccessful, Lei is helpless and returns to Hong Kong.

With China in utter chaos and riots happening frequently, Lei grew impatient. Lei knew the true reason for the riots were cause of the Mishima Zaibatsu. In an attempt to arrest Jin Kazama, Lei enters The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 6.

Game Endings

Tekken 2

Lei is practicing his shooting skills on a firing range. He has shot the words 'The End' onto his target with his pistol.

Tekken 3

Lei is training in a garden using cups and swords. He throws his training sword to one side and rests in the arms of a Buddha statue. This ending is based on a scene from Jackie Chan's 1978 film 'Snakes in the Eagle's Shadow'.

Tekken Tag Tournament

Lei is practicing his moves in an area that looks similar to Forrest Law's second Tekken Tag Tournament arena. He performs a few punches, kicks, stances, and an aerial flip. Finally, he stops, ending in a stance with both of his arms stretched out. One of his arms is in front of him, and his other arm is behind him. The move that he executes at the end, Overhead Flip Kick, became a usable move in Tekken 4.

Tekken 4

Lei has tracked the mafia's hired assassin to a hotel room. He ambushes the assassin and yells "Freeze!" The assassin, Nina Williams, fires two shots at Lei, who avoids them. Then, Nina escapes out the window and down a drainpipe, with Lei following her. The two run past Nina's target, Steve Fox, who tackles Lei to the ground. Lei manages to fire a shot that hits Nina in the leg. Afterwards, Lei is shown on the front page of the newspaper, having arrested Nina. He chuckles at it. He is on top of the police world again.

Tekken 5

Before Lei is able to enjoy his victory at the tournament, he returns to Hong Kong for a new investigation. Then, Lei is shown fighting a criminal on the top of a bus (the bus is the number 1, so it should go though Kowloon. The streets look like a version of Nathan Road). Lei wins the fight, puts handcuffs on the guy he just defeated, and reports to his superiors through his walkie talkie. Lei does not notice the low shop sign behind him (note: it is common for signs to hang across streets in Hong Kong), and he is knocked off the bus (an old style bus no longer used in Hong Kong). He lands on the street and on his back. Lei grunts in pain and says "Oww...That's gonna leave a mark".

Fighting Style

His Five Form stances are Snake, Tiger, Dragon, Panther, and Crane. He also has the stances Drunken Master Walk, Phoenix, Play Dead and Back Turn. Lei has over 110 moves and most are done from stances. In Tekken 5, his stances can be accessed by holding down a direction after an attack. Examples include holding forward after performing a side-step to double right punch (Drunken Master), doing the same with a single left punch (Tiger) or holding down after performing a low right kick (Snake).
