Kuzma Minich Minin (Russian: Минин Кузьма Минич) (?-1616), Russian patriot who together with Prince Dmitry Pozharsky rallied an army to defend Russia against Polish invasion. Minin was a prosperous butcher and a merchant in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. He led a popular movement to organize volunteer corps in his native city and together with Pozharsky was credited for saving Moscow from Polish-Lithuanian forces on November 1st, 1612. Minin distinguished himself as a skilled commander and in 1613 became a nobleman and member of Boyar Duma under newly elected Tsar Michael Romanov, the founder of the Romanov dynasty.
