On May 31, 2024, incumbent Democrat Bobby Powell submitted his resignation, effective November 4, to run for Palm Beach County commissioner.[2] Democratic county commissioner Mack Bernard was elected outright, as he was the only candidate to file, meaning the special election was cancelled.[3]
