Dr. Jennifer Goldman-Wetzler is an American organizational psychologist and conflict expert. She is the author of the book "Optimal Outcomes: Free Yourself from Conflict at Work, at Home, and in life."[1] and she writes the Achieving Conflict Freedom column at Psychology Today[2]. Her work has appeared in publications including The Financial Times[3], Fortune[4], Inc.[5], Success Magazine[6], The Washington Times[7], The New York Post[8], Chief Learning Officer Magazine[9], MarketWatch[10], Fast Company[11], and Forbes[12].
Education
Dr. Goldman-Wetzler received her B.A. in Social Psychology Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University in 1996. She earned her M.A. and M.Phil. in 2006 and Ph.D. in 2008 in Social-Organizational Psychology from Columbia University[13].
Jennifer’s doctoral research was funded by a Graduate Research Fellowship with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (2003-2008).[14]
She was also a Fellow in 2005-2007 with START[15]: The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, based at the University of Maryland, where she was a research fellow under Dr. Arie Kruglanski.
Career
Dr. Goldman-Wetzler began her career in 1997 at the Cambridge, MA-based firm Interaction Associates[16], where she served as an Associate helping corporate clients collaborate more effectively. In 1998-1999, she served as an Associate at Vantage Partners[17], affiliated with the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, where she consulted to corporate clients to help them negotiate with partners and vendors more effectively. In 2000-2002, she served as the Director of Negotiation Programs at Mediation Works Incorporated in Boston, MA, where she delivered training programs for corporate, non-profit and governmental institutions based on Harvard Law School Professor Roger Fisher's[18] Getting to Yes "win-win" principled negotiation methodology.[14]
In 20002-2008, while she earned her M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. at Columbia University, she completed two internships at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Behavioral Sciences Research division. Starting in 2007, Dr. Goldman-Wetzler served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University's Morton Deutsch International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution, where she continues to serve as Affiliate Faculty[19]. She designed the course Transforming Conflict From Within and taught it to graduate students from across Columbia University from 2009-2019.
In 2008, Dr. Goldman-Wetzler founded the company Alignment Strategies Group[20], and began serving as an Executive Coach at Columbia Business School's Executive Education Program. While she led Alignment Strategies Group, from 2014-2017 Jennifer also served as Global Head of the Coaching Practice at Mobius Executive Leadership[21].[14]
In March 2019, Dr. Goldman-Wetzler delivered a TEDx Talk [22] in Chelsea Park, New York City, called "Free Yourself When Conflict Resolution Fails." It has been viewed more than 7.7K times. In July 2020, she joined Marshall Goldsmith's 100 Coaches community[23] and has served as an executive coach with his 100 Coaches Agency since January 2021.
She has delivered keynote speeches at venues including Google,[24] and the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, [25], and she has been a featured conflict expert on the television show The List TV[26].
She has taught courses on the Optimal Outcomes method to graduate students at the University of Pennsylvania's Medical Education Program and Chief Learning Officer Doctoral Program.
Books
Jennifer is the author of Optimal Outcomes: Free Yourself from Conflict at Work, at Home, and in Life[27](HarperBusiness), which has been recognized as a Financial Times Book of the Month[3], Porchlight Business Bestseller, Amazon #1 New Release, it was also included in Success Magazine's "6 Books to Help You Live Your Best Life" [28]. The book has been published in nine editions and translated into four languages: Chinese[29], Korean[30], Vietnamese[31], and Lithuanian[32], with English editions available in the US, UK[33], India[34], Australia[35] and South Africa[36]
Personal Life
Dr. Goldman-Wetzler lives outside New York City with her husband, the social entrepreneur Jeff Wetzler, and their two children.[37]
