Anisuzzaman (born March 1, 1951) is a Bangladeshi educator and philosopher. He is a retired professor of the Philosophy Department at Dhaka University and the Vice-Chancellor of Global University Bangladesh, a private university located in Barishal.[1]

Birth

He was born on March 1, 1951, in Gopalganj.[2][3]

Educational Life

Anisuzzaman completed his Bachelor's, Master's, and M.Phil. degrees in Philosophy from Dhaka University. He received the Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Philosophical Anthropology at the University of Wales in the United Kingdom in 1988. Additionally, he completed postdoctoral research in Comparative Theology at Andrews University in the United States in 1994. In 1997, he received the Commonwealth Fellowship and completed further postdoctoral research at the University of London. He has also conducted research on Comparative Religion and Philosophical Anthropology at King’s College London.[4]

Career

He taught at the Philosophy Department of Dhaka University. Alongside teaching, he held various academic and administrative positions, including Acting Provost of Sir A. F. Rahman Hall, Head of the Philosophy Department, Director of the Govinda Dev Philosophy Research Center, and Director of the Ethical Development Center. He also served as the President of the Bangladesh Chapter of the South Asian Fraternity.[2]

Anisuzzaman joined Global University Bangladesh in Barishal as Vice-Chancellor in 2019 for a four-year term.[3][4] In 2023, he was reappointed for a second term as Vice-Chancellor of the university.[5]

Honors

He has received the prestigious religious title of ‘Nimbarka Ratna’ from India.[4]
