List of unusual deaths

Hi there! You've made a couple of edits to this list, and I've undone them, so I thought I should drop you a line to clarify. After a lot of discussion (we're talking years of discussion here), it was agreed that the clear policy based consensus is to keep this list only to those deaths for whom there are reliable sources (as noted by one person, these need to be high quality sources, not tabloid journals who regularly fling around these words for fun) that the death is in someway exceptional. All other entries (those for whom someone might say "Come on, this is obviously strange") should be removed. I'm glad that you'd like to contribute, so please, when adding a death check to make sure the source actually calls it unusual - synonyms, like weird, strange, odd, or freak accident work too, and we've had entries supported by things like "In my X years as coroner, I've never seen this". It's a pretty loose guideline, but it's still a guideline, so please check your sources when posting a new death. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 20:15, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

listen I agree with you, but which of my sources were unreliable Bdblakley29 (talk) 16:15, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
also one of my sources was a newspaper which are used commonly in the List of Unusual Deaths Bdblakley29 (talk) 16:24, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The source needs to call the death unusual, that's the issue here. Of the four entries you submitted, two had no sources, and two had sources that didn't call the deaths unusual. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 16:48, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well thanks man, I'll try to look for better sources Bdblakley29 (talk) 19:29, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Np, any questions feel free to chat! If you find a death that you think might qualify, you can also put it on the talk page and we're happy to help search for sources, too. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 19:56, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
would you say the death of David Douglas constitutes as unusual Bdblakley29 (talk) 21:58, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The thing is, it doesn't actually matter if I think it does or doesn't. What matters is that a reliable third-party source says it does. Also apologies, but I read both sources you provided for this one and neither called it unusual (just "mysterious", which we could discuss on the article's Talk page if you think that counts?). NekoKatsun (nyaa) 16:06, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey NekoKatsun, I got to ask why did you delete the section I did on John Twynam? the source I used was very reliable (that being a museum in Britain) but also directly called the death unusual, not trying to sound rude just wondering. Bdblakley29 (talk) 03:13, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not rude at all, no worries. :) The source you used looked to me to be user-generated. If the museum itself had an exhibition or collection of deaths, that would be one thing, but this is 1) a list created by "Yvonne27542", and 2) composed of what appears to be user-submitted information. This is the same reason that Find a Grave, Ancestry.com, and IMDb are unreliable sources. A contemporary news article on Twynam's death calling it unusual would be OK, but I wasn't able to find one.
It might be helpful for you to have a read through the Reliable sources page to familiarize yourself with what counts as a reliable source, too. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 14:55, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
