Sub-section order

In which order should the "Distilleries" sub-sections be placed - chronological? alphabetical? regional? some other way? Having the top place might be deemed promotional otherwise. Thank. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:43, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Any idea on this one? It's only been four years.... lol. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:01, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The distilleries have their own article, I believe it has been arranged in List of whisky distilleries in England ChefBear01 (talk) 23:19, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:53, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New section

I have added a new definitions section, it outlines the UK wide guidelines by the British Standards Institute and the l current draft GI being processed that would set a statutory definition.ChefBear01 (talk) 20:01, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

Does the line “at various stages of development” still accurately describe English whisky in 2023?

I would also appreciate thoughts on the lead and article changes I have made.ChefBear01 (talk) 15:24, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have adjusted the lead to include important information about the types of whiskies produced in England as different countries take different approaches to production. ChefBear01 (talk) 21:41, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed section article split

I propose that the distilleries and destilleries milestones section be moved to a new article List of whisky distilleries in England, there is a lot of text in both sections and which only accounts for half of the current destilleries in England, I think that with the full 46 destilleries it would become cluttered and therefore a separate article would be wise.

The split would consist of a copy and paste of the two sections highlighted plus an addiction of information about the other distilleries.ChefBear01 (talk) 22:47, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ehrenkater:, what are your thoughts on the proposed section move and new article?.ChefBear01 (talk) 01:22, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have strong feelings either way, but maybe on balance it would be easier to continue work on the existing article for now, and then see what it is like, before deciding. Ehrenkater (talk) 11:22, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ehrenkater, would you agree with implementing the changes in the new article in this article?.ChefBear01 (talk) 19:17, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, but I don't follow. Ehrenkater (talk) 22:23, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have created a new article but you suggested continuing work on this article for now to see how it looks before considering two separate articles, so I would copy and past the information on that article over to this one for now. ChefBear01 (talk) 16:57, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New world whisky

I am seeing the term “new world whisky” appear in multiple different source to describe a whisky not made in Scotland, Ireland Canada America or Japan. (Traditional locations associated with whisky production). 1234 ChefBear01 (talk) 09:27, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

Scotch whisky has an IPA pronunciation guide? Why not also here? Non-native speakers might assume the final syllable was pronounced "sky". Martinevans123 (talk) 11:58, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

:I added the IPA pronunciation to ensure those who view the article have the correct spelling and pronunciation. ChefBear01 (talk) 19:40, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is the rationale for having no IPA guide here? Does it belong only at Whisky? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:14, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reading the policy provided by another editor it is not required for common English words under WP:MOSPRON (Appropriate use)ChefBear01 (talk) 21:54, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead images

I'd suggest that the two lead images in the infobox are too large. Could these be reduced in size at all? Otherwise, in the interests of reducing WP:PROMO, perhaps they could be removed and re-used in the article main body? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:33, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have adjusted the size of the imagesChefBear01 (talk)| ChefBear01 (talk) 19:35, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, that looks much better. But one might argue that these two brands alone are in some way being promoted? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:15, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could the images be modified to remove the company names and make them more generic? ChefBear01 (talk) 21:44, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect that might be seen as WP:OR. It's unclear to me if they are still trading. If they are no longer in the market, I don't see much of a problem. But a caption saying something like "Examples of English whisky" might be better? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:50, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would support you making that change.ChefBear01 (talk) 21:56, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know if these two bands are still active? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:00, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes both brands are active, English Co is the oldest and Cotswolds is the largest producer of English WhiskyChefBear01 (talk) 23:16, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done, I have added a caption to explain they are examples of English whiskey. ChefBear01 (talk) 06:39, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the image arrangement, I have moved the two images that were in the infobox to the gallery section and uploaded a image which just the glass of whisky, this should fully remove any potential promo issues. ChefBear01 (talk) 07:13, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's an improvement. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:52, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article class

@Bd2412:, I have been looking into the criteria for c class or even b class and I think that given the significant expansion of the article and the depth of the detail provided and cited the article does meet the criteria. ChefBear01 (talk) 19:30, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Important clarification needed in regarding COI

@Martinevans123:, could a member of the English Whisky Guild edit on this page without causing a WP:COI?.ChefBear01 (talk) 13:06, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
