March 14

Category:People of Arab-Jewish descent

Nominator's rationale: The term "Arab-Jewish" simply combines Jewish descent with being from Arab countries. This grouping is loosely based on whether a country is part of the Arab League or mostly speaks Arabic. "Arab-Jewish" isn't a specific ethnicity, unlike groups like Sephardi or Mizrahi Jews. Category:12th-century Danish historians

Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now there's only one or two people in these categories, which is unhelpful for navigation. Mason (talk) 01:34, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Moroccan educators by century

Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now. This category only has one century in it. Mason (talk) 04:20, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just two century subcategories can sit perfectly well in Category:Moroccan educators, it does not help here to have an extra category layer. 09:09, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Category:Fernández de la Cueva

Nominator's rationale: I'm not sure if this is supposed to be an eponoymous category Francisco Fernández de la Cueva, 2nd Duke of Alburquerque or if the entire family is called Fernández de la Cueva. I think that this category should be renamed to reflect either the family name or merged to Spanish nobility. Mason (talk) 04:50, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:21st-century Danish metalsmiths

Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. There's only one page in each, which is unhelpful for navigation. Mason (talk) 05:53, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Now keep the 18th century but delete the 21st century. The latter consists of articles about people who were mainly active in the 20th century, per WP:OVERLAPCAT. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:43, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have now added four new biographies and weeded out a couple of the oldest people who did not seem to ghave been very active after the turn of the century. The four new biographies are all about people who are either still active or have been so until fairly recently.Ramblersen2 (talk) 11:41, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:13th-century Catalan clergy

Nominator's rationale: delete, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. Merging is not necessary as the content is still in another subcategory of each of the parent categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom, but if other pages can be added, then I'd support keeping the category. (I looked, but couldn't find any). Mason (talk) 06:36, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Italic archaeology

Nominator's rationale: Redundant layer 1C 0P. Item already in other two parent cat trees. NLeeuw (talk) 07:13, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IIHF Women's World Championships

Nominator's rationale: Harmonizing subcategory names in the Category:IIHF Women's World Ice Hockey Championships. Maiō T. (talk) 16:23, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment While I support the initiative to harmonize subcategory names, I don’t support the selected naming format and would prefer to change the parent category name before altering the subcategories. The tournament is called the "IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship" in all official IIHF documentation and I strongly feel we should be using that nomenclature, rather than "IIHF Women's World Ice Hockey Championships." Category:Anniston (minor league baseball) players

Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:NARROWCAT. The league itself was around for only one season (in 1904) and, according to the article, had five notable players. So this isn't going to grow. Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:15, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Indian Paintbrush (company) films

Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary disambiguation; extremely unlikely to be confused with the flower called the Indian paintbrush (Castilleja). ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:37, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Ice hockey people from Kansas

Nominator's rationale: Omnis Scientia (talk) 15:37, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Ice hockey people by state

Nominator's rationale: Only one article each; merge, for now, with parent category. Omnis Scientia (talk) 15:28, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose The primary category tree for these articles is the ice hockey people tree and American Ice hockey people by state. Merging to the generic sportspeople category would remove the articles from the more important category tree. DJSasso (talk) 01:19, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Tennis players by state

Nominator's rationale: Categories have only have two and one article respectively (already in appropriate categories in Category:American tennis players); if there are more articles on tennis players from Idaho and Delaware then these can be recreated in the future but, for now, merge to parent cat. Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:44, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Children of Ottoman sultans

Nominator's rationale: Not all of the princes and princesses included in this list are children of the sultan, some are grandchildren. Векочел (talk) 14:24, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:18th-century Indigenous Mexican painters

Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. only one page in here Mason (talk) 12:32, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Galician conquistadors

Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now. This is not a helpful category with only one or two people in it. Mason (talk) 03:42, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Medieval Serbian people of Greek descent

Nominator's rationale: Non-defining intersection between era of birth AND nationality AND country of descent Mason (talk) 03:32, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Films about diseases

Nominator's rationale: I don't understand why we have two such similiar categories. I'm finding articles put in both categories. Either the categories need to be renamed to make their distinction clear or one needs to be merged into the other. Liz Read! Talk! 01:41, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom. I think we should leave a redirect to prevent this from happening again. Mason (talk) 03:33, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:5th-century Galician bishops

Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. only one page in here, which isn't helpful for navigation Mason (talk) 01:35, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Spanish high school teachers

Nominator's rationale: Non-defining intersection. between type of teacher and period of schooling Mason (talk) 01:03, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Austin John Winkler albums

Nominator's rationale: Contains one non-notable entry, now redirected to the artist. Upmerge the redirect to Category:Rock albums by American artists. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 00:41, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
