Primetel PLC is a Cypriot telecommunications company that offers and develops voice, data, and video services. It's ranked third in fixed-line telephony after Cyta and Cablenet, with a market share of 10.7%. [1] The company owns and operates a regional network in Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Russia, and the United Kingdom, providing data communications, fiber-optic fixed network infrastructure, and IP-based services between Europe and the Middle East.

History

In 2008, Primetel introduced and released for the first time their monthly news magazine, PrimeTime. The news magazine was offered from June 2008 till March 2022.

In June 2009, Primetel announced the launch of its submarine fiber cable landing station in Geroskipou and that Reliance Globalcom had terminated its 2.7 terabit HAWK submarine cable system into it.[2]

In May 2011, Primetel launched the first mobile virtual network operator in Cyprus, making it the third cellphone operator on the island.[3] Primetel has recently launched Mobile telephony services with Quad–Play services (Fixed and mobile telephony, Internet and TV).[citation needed]

In April 2015, Primetel launched the third mobile network operator in Cyprus.[3] Based on the latest data[example needed] released in December 2018, Primetel holds 10.50% Market Share in Mobile Subscriptions in Cyprus.[citation needed]

In 2020, Primetel changed their logo, from the old "Sofachrome RG Italic" styled logo to a new one.

In 2022, Primetel silently killed their physical and digital news magazine, PrimeTime. the website is still up but doesn't show any articles and has since been abandoned.

In July 2023, Primetel was placed into administration after defaulting on a loan it has acquired from Signal Capital Partners.[4]

Ad campaigns

Primetel run a lot of ad campaigns through out the years. All the ad campaigns are listed here:

"facegirl96"

A teenage girl is browsing facebook.com on a netbook and the police suddenly appears in her house with motorbikes. They give her a ticket because he went "double the internet speed without paying much". The policemen leave and she is confused. The ad first aired in January 8, 2010.

"GaMeR1334"

Follows the same pattern as "facegirl96". This time around a boy is playing on the computer instead of a girl.

"Mak1S"

Follows the same pattern as "facegirl96". This time around with a guy working on his computer.

"Piase me"

An ad showcasing the benefits of going to Primetel. The ad also advertises their new offer that gives you free 10 euros with your new Primetel SIM for only 1 cent. Aired in May 30, 2011

"Ippotis"

A guy is speeding to catch another guy that shouted the latest "Primetel TVPlus" offer. A policeman stops him but then is shocked at how cheap the offer is at just 24.95 euros. Aired in June 4, 2007

Primetel "Gorgona" ad campaign

"Gorgona"

Same as "Ippotis". But this time a guy is drowning in the beach and a woman rescues him. The guy tells her that he saw a mermaid that advertised the new Primetel offer (PrimeADSL2+) at just the price of 24.95 euros.

Discontinued services

Many of these have either been replaced or have just disappeared from Primetel's offerings

PrimeTime

First released in June 2008, A monthly news magazine made by Primetel. It was discontinued in 2022 with the last magazine being released in March 2022.

PrimeADSL2+

First available in 2007. Discontinued in 2015, to make room for newer Internet services that were reliable and faster than ADSL2+

Primetel TV+

TV package first introduced in 2006. Discontinued in 2013 to be replaced by other TV packages with more variety.

PrimeHome

All in one Home package including Telephony, Internet and TV. Discontinued in 2013 and got replaced by other bundles offered at the Primetel website.

PrimeNet

All in one Internet based package. Also discontinued in 2013.

Primetel Webmail

Still offered today but no longer displayed anywhere in the Primetel site. You can only buy it if you specifically mention it when going to a Primetel shop.

Primetel TV (hourly rental service)

It was offered at Pay machines at Kiosks. Quickly discontinued after little to no usage by customers.
