Charis Romas or Haris Romas (Greek: Χάρης Ρώμας) is a Greek actor, screenwriter, lyricist and politician. He was born on 23 March 1960 in Piraeus as Haralambos Rassias (Χαράλαμπος Ρασσιάς).[1] He is most well known for co-writing and starring in the popular TV shows Konstantinou kai Elenis and To kafe tis Charas, where he played the iconic roles of Konstantinos Katakouzinos and Periandros Popotas respectively.
He is also a politician, having run for Regional Council of Attica region in the 2019 Greek regional elections, he was elected for the district of Central Athens, receiving 7.837 votes.[2] He served as executive Regional Councillor for Culture from 2019 to 2021.[3] Since 2021, he serving as Vice-Governor of Attica for Culture and Sports.[4]
He is a candidate for Mayor of Chalandri and head of the "Chalandri to the Light" faction, for the 2023 Greek local elections.[5]
Biography
He was born with the name Charalambos Rassias in March 23, 1960 in Pireaus. He graduated from the high school of Moraitis school and entered the medical school at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, receiving a MD degree in 1992. Instead of a doctor, he chose to become an actor and he studied drama and theatre studies in the dramatic schools of theater of art Katselis.
His parents did not agree with this decision and especially his father, who stopped talking to him and forbade him to use his surname. For this reason, he adopted the surname of his mother "Romas". His relationship with his father recovered only shortly before his father's death.
Personal life
When he was 25 years old he married a fellow student and the marriage lasted only for 2 years. He has been a permanent resident of Chalandri since 1992.
