1 | "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" | June 29, 2022
Woo Young-woo is a young Korean girl on the autism spectrum who has yet to speak, despite consultations with specialists. Her first words finally come when she witnesses her father being attacked by a jealous husband/neighbor. In the heat of the moment, Young-woo begins loudly citing legal definitions of various degrees of physical assault that she has memorized from her father's legal library, verbatim. This launches her in the direction of a legal career. We next see Young-woo as she begins her first day at Hanbada Law Firm after graduating at the top of her class at Seoul National University. She is assigned to the team of senior attorney Jung Myung-seok, who does not want the awkward newcomer. He gets assurances from CEO Han Seon-young that he can dismiss Young-woo if she mishandles her first case. This turns out to be an assault case of a wife on her husband. It is set to be plea bargained with a guilty plea to attempted murder with only a sentence of probation. Young-woo correctly points out that such a plea would invalidate the woman's pension, leaving her destitute. In court, Young-woo extracts testimony from a medical expert that the husband could have been rendered unconscious by an underlying subdural hematoma on his brain and not by any physical blows. The court agrees to reduce the charge to assault, which is accepted, and the wife receives a sentence of probation, with her pension intact. Young-woo is aided in her transition to Hanbada by her colleague, Lee Joon-ho, as she navigates such everyday trivialities like their office building's revolving door.
2 | "The Wedding Dress That Slipped Off" | June 30, 2022
Kim Hwa-young is getting married at the Daehyeon Hotel, which stages all-inclusive weddings. After the vows are exchanged, the bride and groom begin their wedding march. The bride is distracted and steps on her skirt, pulling down her entire dress. Her bosom is exposed in the front and a tattoo of the Buddha is exposed in the back. Her father, Kim Jeong-gu, is humiliated and demands compensation. Jeong-gu is asking for ₩1 billion in damages and is dissatisfied with the hotel's offer of a refund of the ₩230 million he paid for the wedding and ₩10 million in damages. Jeong-gu's law firm said the offer was reasonable, so he meets with Hanbada to find out if they can do better. Initially, they also say the offer is reasonable, but Young-woo interjects. A wedding gift of ₩33.2 billion worth of land to the bride's family will not occur due to the botched wedding, which Young-woo suggests entitles Jeong-gu to special damages in that amount. A settlement offer of 10% of that amount (₩3.32 billion) is turned down by the hotel, leading to a civil trial. Lee Joon-ho enlists Kang Ji-hye, a bridal assistant working for the Daehyeon Hotel, to testify in court that the wedding dress had been switched for a looser fitting dress the morning of the wedding. During the trial, Kim Hwa-young, the bride who is the actual aggrieved party, withdraws the lawsuit, tells her father she is in fact a Buddhist, doesn't like his choice for an arranged husband, and is going to be with her true love, her girlfriend. Meanwhile, Lee Joon-ho begins to look at Young-woo in a different light after seeing her in a wedding dress at the Daehyeon Hotel while they were on an undercover assignment investigating the hotel's handling of their wedding dresses.
3 | "This Is Pengsoo" | July 6, 2022
Young-woo works on a case involving two brothers, one a brilliant medical student at SNU, the other, an autistic with the capacity of a six to ten year old. Their parents come home to find the autistic son apparently attacking the other son, who dies. The young man had a blood alcohol level of .30, multiple broken ribs, and a faint mark on his neck. The autistic son is charged for the attack. The father is a Hanbada client and asks them to handle the defense. Hoping her autism might help with communication, Myung-seok's team, including Young-woo, are assigned to the case. During their investigation, the team learns that the deceased brother had attempted suicide multiple times and they develop the theory that the autistic brother was attempting to perform CPR, resulting in the broken ribs of the deceased. The parents, however, cannot accept that their brilliant son was that unhappy, and they wish to suppress any information about suicide attempts. In court, the prosecution attempts to use Young-woo's obviously high-functioning autism to argue against diminished capacity for the defendant. It is asked that Young-woo be removed from the case, and the case is assigned to the team of another senior attorney. Distraught about these developments, Young-woo attempts suicide by hanging in her office. Lee Joon-ho catches her in the act and saves her. They fall to the floor and the impact gives Young-woo an insight into how the deceased had gotten broken ribs on the back of his rib cage. Back in court, these arguments are advanced and the charges are reduced to bodily injury and the autistic son is ruled as mentally incompetent. Following these developments, Young-woo composes a letter of resignation, cleans out her office, removes the nameplate from her door, and leaves Hanbada Law Firm.
4 | "The Strife of the Three Brothers" | July 7, 2022
Young-woo gets involved in the case of Dong Dong-sam, the father of her high school friend Dong Geu-ra-mi. He is a farmer who has been tilling land owned by his father. The father had passed away recently, and the man's two older brothers pressure and deceive him into signing an agreement accepting only 20% of the value of the ₩10 billion worth of land. The agreement also makes Dong-sam responsible for all taxes on the land, which would leave him ₩260 million in debt after receiving his part of the inheritence. Young-woo is reluctant to meet with the man because she no longer considers herself an attorney after leaving Hanbada, but she relents at the insistence of Geu-ra-mi. Young-woo informs Dong-sam that since 1991 standard inheritance law is an equal division of an estate. An eavesdropping neighbor says he overheard the older brothers intimidate and deceive Dong-sam, but he changes his story when testifying in court. Young-woo puts Geu-ra-mi up to creating a drunken scene at the memorial for the father of the three brothers. The older brothers attack Dong-sam, which invokes a section of the civil code that invalidates the agreement. Dong-sam is entitled to the entire ₩10 billion, but, after supplications from his brothers, agrees to an equal split of the estate. Young-woo meets with Myung-seok to discuss her resignation. He has not processed it since she had not given her reason for resigning. Myung-seok agrees to allow Young-woo to stay with the understanding that there will be no further unexcused absences. Young-woo agrees, restores her nameplate to her door, and reoccuppies her office.
5 | "Wild Card VS Tactician" | July 13, 2022
Young-woo struggles with competition with a colleague. Young-woo and Kwon Min-woo have a case assigned to them involving a technology dispute between two ATM hardware companies. Min-woo maneuvers to exclude Young-woo from communication with the client in an effort to make her look unprepared and unprofessional. Because of the case's reliance on client testimony, Joon-ho and Geu-ra-mi help Young-woo learn how to detect when people are lying.
6 | "If I Were a Whale" | July 14, 2022
Gye Hyang-sim is a North Korean defector who is charged with injury resulted from robbery. She had attempted to take money back from a debtor along with an acquaintance but they were caught by the police. She flees and hides with the intention of taking care of her young daughter, and comes back to confess her crimes and accept the punishment 5 years later, after leaving her daughter in an orphanage. Young-woo is assigned to the case with the task to calm Su-yeon who is emotionally invested. However, she becomes equally invested in the case and does her best to reduce the 4 year sentence Hyang-sim would receive to a probation. She tries to prove that the victim's wounds were not caused by the two women but by her abusive husband. The doctor who had written the report is proved to be biased against defectors in the questioning with Young-woo. She and Su-yeon try to convince the court by stating that Hyang-sim was not familiar with the South Korean laws and didn't consider her actions as a crime as it wasn't considered so in her homeland. Hyang-sim however confesses that she intended to get the money back at any cost and didn't know much about any law. Although the jury comes to an unanimous decision on a four-year sentence, the judge sentences the defendant to a probation as she had willingly returned and confessed to her crimes. In a dialogue with Su-yeon, Young-woo describes how mother whales do not abandon their child even when attacked by humans and wonders if her mother would have not left her if she too was a whale.
7 | "A Tale About Sodeok-Dong I" | July 20, 2022
The plans for the construction of a highway has put the people of Sodeokdong in distress as it would divide the village and cause other problems such as pollution. Sodeokdong had previously suffered due to the constructions of a waste incineration plant and a subway line. The compensation given to those who would lose lands due to the same was not enough as well. The chief approaches Hanbada to stop the construction plan. Although Myeong-seok's team was reluctant initially, they later take up the case after being convinced by the chief who gives them a tour of the village and showcases its beauty. They realise that they have to fight against Taesan's CEO (now attorney) Tae Su-mi in the trial. The team try to propose alternative routes to construct the highway but it is shunned down by Tae Su-mi. Young-woo is impressed by her skills and the same goes other way round. Young-woo's father upon knowing that his daughter is on the same case as Tae Su-mi is upset and goes to meet Hanbada's CEO wherein it is revealed that Tae Su-mi is Young-woo's birth mother. Min-woo and Young-woo meet her father on his way out which rouses Min-woo's suspicion of him knowing the CEO and is frustrated at the thought of Young-woo having received the job due to connections. He puts up an anonymous post on Hanbada's website on 'revealing the corrupt hirings of Hanbada'. Young-woo is doubtful of whether she likes Jun-ho and follows Geu-ra-mi's plan to touch him to see whether her heart races. They share a sweet moment and Young-woo confirms that she does indeed like him.
8 | "A Tale About Sodeok-Dong II" | July 21, 2022
An on-site verification is requested by Hanbada as an attempt to appeal to the judges with the beauty of Sodeokdong and impress them with the villagers' unitedness and kind nature. The odds aren't in their favour however as it happens to be raining heavily. As the chief tries to appeal to the judges by introducing the villagers, they learn that Taesan had contacted the villagers and convinced them to sign the consent forms to the construction and had provided a potential increase in the compensation. Their plans do not go as intended as the judge states that the case shall be dismissed if the majority of the village consents to the construction of the highway. Hanbada tries their best but is beaten by Taesan in getting the villagers' consent. Courtesy of Young-woo's memory and analysing skills, the marvelous hackberry tree at Sodeokdong is recognised as a National Monument which would be taken down if the construction proceeds, thus putting an end to the case. Young-woo learns about her birth mother from her father and meets Tae Su-mi to reveal the same and decline her offer to join Taesan.
9 | "The Pied Piper" | July 27, 2022
Young-woo deals with a case involving a young man who commandeers a school bus load of children and takes them to a wooded mountain to play all day long. The children are not harmed, they are merely allowed to play. The resulting trial exposes that the children, who have parents who expect high achievement, are required to study until 10:00 pm every day at a school owned by the abductor's mother. Young-woo tells Joon-ho that she likes him, and he reciprocates. The emotional intensity of the exchange overwhelms Young-woo and she runs away, leaving Joon-ho perplexed.
10 | "Holding Hands Can Wait" | July 28, 2022
The team defends a man who is accused of the quasi-rape of a young woman with developmental disabilities who has the emotional capacity of a 13 year old. The couple profess their love for each other, but the sex had driven the young woman to self-harm. The court finds that she did not have the capacity to make a decision about sexual consent and sentence him to prison. Young-woo apologizes for running away, and she and Joon-ho agree to begin working toward becoming an official couple. While on a date, they share their first kiss. Tae Su-mi visits Gwang-ho at his restaurant and offers Young-woo a position at the Taesan branch office in Boston, Massachusetts, close to numerous autism specialists. He accuses Su-mi of trying to get Young-woo out of the country to avoid hurting her chances at becoming minister of justice and throws her out angrily.
