Welcome

Hello and thanks for stopping by the Museums Project, which was launched in mid-March, 2008. We've had to archive some of the initial discussion due to talk page length, but a complete index of all archived topics is available. In the mean time, the following topics may help you:

  • Assessment, the assessment guidelines for the project. Please feel free to propose changes if you think they're required
  • Requested Articles, if you feel like working on a new article
  • Expansion Needed, these stubs have been created, but require expansion
  • To Do, the project's to-do list, that includes everything except article creation and expansion requests

Please always feel free to start a new topic and don't worry if it may have been discussed before. New discussion is a good thing.

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

List of Exhibitions on a theme

Hi, a researcher I am working with is interested in created a page listing UK exhibitions on the topic of LGBT issues. I was just wondering if there was best practice tips I should know about.

Will we have problems meeting the notability requirements? Does the new page have to be a Draft which we submit?

Thank you.

Importance rating

Exploratory Hands-on Science Centre is not rated. I'd say it was a unique and seminal hands-on centre in the UK, that was of medium if not high importance. Would anyone like to review my contributions there and give it a rating?Thelisteninghand (talk) 20:53, 23 May 2022 (UTC) The title should begin with 'The' - afraid I still can't work out how do do that edit. Thelisteninghand (talk) 20:55, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It's fine as is, naming wise. Articles don't typically have the leading A/The in their name. See for example Metropolitan Museum of Art, British Museum, V&A Museum Star Mississippi 21:40, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need an article for the Center for the Future of Museums

Looks both notable and very relevant.[1][2][3] I ran into it reading this. Doug Weller talk 14:24, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Project Reorganization

I took the liberty of moving some of the content off the main page – namely the member list and templates – to dedicated pages and adding navigation tabs to the top of all of them as the current organization seemed somewhat confusing. I also modified the capitalization of some of the subpages for consistency. I tried to base the changes on a few other projects I am familiar with and I hope it is to everyone's liking, but I apologize if it's not. –Noha307 (talk) 00:49, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It looks great, thanks! Always happy for more ideas. Since you're more familiar with some of these elements, any chance you know the answer to #Draft Tracker above? Thanks either way Star Mississippi 02:58, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, no idea how the draft tracker works. The only reason I really was able to add the tabs is because I copied the code from other projects and changed the links. Wish I could be of more help. –Noha307 (talk) 00:10, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thoughts on History being recorded in chronological vs. topical order

I'm in the process of some updates to the Minnesota Historical Society and I've found that there is a lot of information on the early process of constructing the building. Ultimately, this was a 62-year project so there is plenty of information that can fill the gap. Would it make sense to create topical subsections of the article, so the process of building the society would have its own section, or is it better to be written in chronological order with information on the construction of the society split along with the rest of the history at the time?

Let me know your thoughts and if there are any guidelines, essays, or other best practices that I could read. Thanks!  Ryan Vesey 19:00, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
