Vadakkencherry is a fast developing town, village[1][2] and gram panchayat[3] in the Palakkad district, state of Kerala, India. It is situated in Thrissur-Palakkad route (NH-544), at almost the same distance from both cities. It is a part of Alathur Taluk, and a major commercial area in region. It is usually confused with Wadakkancherry, a town having similar name, but situated in Thrissur district. So, the name is shown as 'Vadakkencherry-Malabar' in many important books.
The main temple
The main village street is divided into two retta(two) theruvu and otta(one) theruvu. The Main Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple[4] is situated in the upper platform of the village at the end of the retta theruvu, facing east as per vasthu sastra. The most important festival is Navaratri, with festivities peaking on Ekadasi day (11th day) in a grand celebration.[5]
Road and Transport
The National Highway 544 from Salem to Ernakulam passes through the Vadakkencherry . Because of this, the region is well connected by road to all parts of Kerala including the state capital. A number of private and government buses ply on this road between Thrissur and Palakkad. there is a private bus stand located in the heart of Vadakkencherry town named Indira Priyadarshini bus stand under Vadakkencherry Panchayath and also a (KSRTC) sub depo under Kerala State Road Transport Corporation is also located in vadakkencherry.
