Agder Court of Appeal (Norwegian: Agder lagmannsrett) is the court of appeal located in Skien, Norway. It serves the counties of Agder and Vestfold og Telemark.[1] The court has 21 judges and 13 administrative staff, including a director.[2] The court is administrated by the Norwegian National Courts Administration.
The court has eight courtrooms, three located in Skien, two in Tønsberg, two in Kristiansand, and one in Arendal.[3]
The court was created in 1936, and was given temporary accommodation in Skien, with the court room in the city hall. By 1991 the court was located at three different places in the city, before the current courthouse was opened.[4]
It is one of six lower courts in Norway. It can rule on both civil and criminal cases. Court decisions can be, to a limited extent, appealed to the Supreme Court of Norway. The Agder Court of Appeal serves as appeal for district courts located in Agder and Vestfold og Telemark counties in southeastern Norway. [5] The following district courts fall under this court of appeals: Aust-Agder District Court, Kristiansand District Court, Lister District Court, Nedre Telemark District Court, Vest-Telemark District Court, and Vestfold District Court.
