Niranam diocese, the smallest and one of the oldest dioceses of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, is located in Niranam, India. Niranam is one of the places where St. Thomas the Apostle preached in the 1st century.[1]

History

Niranam diocese was was created by Patriarch Peter IV Patriarch of Antioch during the Holy apostolic visit to India of 1876 on Mulanthuruthy Synod. First Metropolitan of the diocese was Parumala Mar Gregorios who was later declared on 1987 by Ignatius Zakka I Patriarch of Antioch as the saint of the church.

Geevarghese Mor Coorilose

The Diocese of Niranam has now been made an independent diocese with Geevarghese Mor Coorilose as its Metropolitan who was consecrated as bishop on 3 July 2006 at St. Thomas Church, Paravur. Geevarghese Mor Barnabas is the Auxiliary Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese[3]
