The 2015 Chicago mayoral election took place on February 24, 2015, to elect the Mayor of Chicago. The election is non-partisan and no candidate received a majority. A runoff was held between the top two finishers on April 7, 2015, and resulted in the re-election of incumbent mayor Rahm Emanuel.[1] Emanuel, a member of the Democratic Party was running for re-election to a second term in office. In the initial election, Emanuel received 46% of the vote and Democratic Cook County Commissioner Jesús "Chuy" García received 34%. In the run-off Emanuel got 55.7% of the vote, and Garcia 44.3% of the vote.[2] The runoff was unprecedented in the history of Chicago's mayoral races. Rahm Emanuel won the election.
