The introduction of the 2014 regulations have also meant that the 'blown floor' method of aerodynamically influencing exhaust gases are a thing of the past. The MP4-29, like all the other 2014 cars, has a single exhaust pipe that is placed along the car's centre line. It exits upwards from the car and has no bodywork behind it.

The McLaren MP4-29 is a Formula One racing car designed by Tim Goss for McLaren to compete in the 2014 Formula One season.[6] It will be driven by 2009 World Drivers' Champion Jenson Button and debutant Kevin Magnussen, who has replaced Sergio Pérez after he won the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 Series title.[4][5] The MP4-29 has been designed to use Mercedes' new 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged engine,[7] the PU106A Hybrid.[2]

The car was unveiled on 24 January 2014.[6]

Design

The MP4-29 is designed to comply with the new 2014 F1 regulations. The most obvious visual change is the considerably lowered front chassis with its unusually profiled nose. The front wing has also been built to a narrower specification and the aerofoils on the back wing have also been lowered in accordance with the new rules.

But the most significant change from last year's MP4-28 is the Mercedes PU106A Hybrid V6 turbocharged engine. The new power unit will produce 160bhp and is linked to an ERS (Energy Recovery System) that harvests spent energy to be used as a power boost.
