The Legend of Sarila (French: La Légende de Sarila) is a 2013 3-D CGI film.[1] The film draws heavily on Inuit culture and tradition.[1] The film was picked up for distribution in the US by Phase 4 Films,[2] under the title Frozen Land (not to be confused with the Finnish movie Frozen Land) in order to compete with Frozen.
Production
The $8.5 million production was promoted as Canada's first 3D animated feature film.[3]
Disney Lawsuit
In late December, The Walt Disney Company filed in California federal court to get an injunction against the continued distribution of this film, retitled Frozen Land. In their suit, Disney alleges: "To enhance the commercial success of Sarila, the defendant redesigned the artwork, packaging, logo, and other promotional materials for its newly (and intentionally misleadingly) retitled film to mimic those used by [Disney] for Frozen and related merchandise." The suit was filed against distributor Phase 4 Films.[4]
