FEBS Journal is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS). Before 2005, the journal was known as the European Journal of Biochemistry, which itself was the new name of Biochemische Zeitschrift that was adopted in 1967.[1] It covers research in any area of biochemistry, particularly bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics, molecular cell biology and the molecular biology of disease, systems biology, and nanoscience. The journal was established in 1906 by Carl Neuberg who also served as the first editor-in-chief. Journal content is available for free 1 year after it gets published.

Similar to many journals owned by scholarly societies and federations, income generated from FEBS Journal and the other journals of FEBS (FEBS Letters and Molecular Oncology) funds the work of the Federation, such as fellowships, courses, travel grants, meetings and conferences.

FEBS Journalgives a yearly award to a young scientist publishing "the best research article" in the journal. The winner gets a €10,000 cash prize and is invited to give a talk at the Annual FEBS meeting.
