Panteón hill.

Panteón (Pantheon) hill in one of the 42 hills of the city of Valparaíso, Chile. It is surrounded by Ecuador and Cumming streets and it has its base on Condell street. It is at one side of the Cárcel (Jail) hill, being part of the central chain of Valparaíso's hills[1]. The reason of it's name (panteón and cemetery means the same in spanish), is because the hill holds three cemeteries of the city: the Cemetery nº1, the Dissidents Cemetery and the Cemetery nº2.[2]

On the begginings of the XIX century, the people of Valparaíso used to bury at their deaths on the sea or on the top of the hills, causing a sanitary crisis. In 1825, the goverment bought some lands to found a cemetery on the hill, then it was on the periphery of the city. This is how the cemetery nº1 was born, for the catholics, and the Dissidents Cemetery, due the work of british inmigrants, to bury at those of not catholic faith. On the year 1848 was founded the Cemetery nº2.[3][4]
