This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community.

Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Most of the people in the list made well over 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, and do not add yourself.

  • People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain for editing for at least two weeks, are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
  • Wait about a month before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
  • Wikipedians who are considering leaving and those who have very recently left a stress-related goodbye message can be listed at Esperanza's alert page.
  • In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
  • Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list altogether or listed in the "Not really missing" section.
  • Missing Wikipedians should be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.
  • If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit. You are welcome to add your own name to Esperanza's alert page, but be warned that the Esperanza community will accordingly try to encourage you to stay.

Missing Wikipedians

A

  • Abigail-II (talk · contribs · count) - Left 2004 June 12. Blanked talk page and left message on Village Pump, explaining that too many people were deleting material without discussion on talk pages. "I've no interest in working on a system where people break down your work without discussing it on appropriate page."
  • AI (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 2005 October 15. Left following an Arbitration Committee case which banned him from Wikipedia.
  • Alren (talk · contribs · count) - One edit on March 24, 2006, but hadn't edited since January 6 before that.
  • Android79 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit March 19, 2006
  • Ankur (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 2005 March 9. Used to make great maps.
  • Aranel (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was on September 1, 2005.
  • Ark30inf (talk · contribs · count) - Left on October 24, 2003 saying "I have found that if you are not here to do battle then nobody will listen to you. Thats not what I am about." He requested de-adminship and the deletion of his user page on 22 February 2004. "I then returned in late 2004 and tried to stick to just editing Arkansas articles to avoid stupid conflicts. Its an area that nobody appeared interested in at all. Then I got jumped on for the way I categorized my articles and all of them reverted before I even was given an opportunity to discuss the way I categorized my articles. I stepped on someone's pet peeve and they didn't feel like waiting to hear what I had to say. It was somehow URGENT to revert all the Arkansas categorization for some reason. Screw it. Thats my LAST attempt at Wikipedia."
  • Arundhati_bakshi (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit on April 2, 2006. From her talk page: "I have decided this some time ago, because Wikipedia is no longer a nice place to be, largely because of incidents like with Pchurch, but also general lack of goodwill, POV interference masquerading itself as NPOV corections, biased admins, the applications of certain rules to certain people and articles while not applying them to others and a general atmosphere of unfairness and often outright hostility which makes any contributions feel they are done in vain. If you look through my nearly 5000 edits, you will see that I stand up for new people quite often, to have them leave after being gangbanged in a "kill the newbies" type campaign. I don't see the usefulness of working under such conditions. I am just tired of spending my time defenidng people who have bene told to do the opposite of what they are expected to do and trying to maintain goodwill among a bunch of rude users."

  • Danakil (talk · contribs · count) - This extraordinary user edited for only one and a half months, from 1 August to 13 September, 2004, yet during that time he amassed 3,009 edits. Many of these were controversial, concerning name changes to computer related articles. Despite having earned the enmity of quite a few of his fellow nerd-o-nauts, Danakil was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles. His work will be remembered and missed.
  • Dori (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 20 March 2005. "I've gotten tired of the English Wikipedia. It's gotten so big that I would have to spent most of my time reverting bad edits to pages on my watchlist, and that's not fun. I'll probably be back, but not until a stable branch is launched."
  • Doron (talk · contribs · count) - Contributed since August 2004. Last edit January 11, 2006; stated on User page "Took some time off."

  • OneGuy (talk · contribs · count) - last edit was on February 27, 2005.
  • Optim (talk · contribs · count): Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Wikipedia in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. • Vancouverguy (talk · contribs · count) - "I think I've officially "disappeared" now. You can call me a "missing Wikipedian" although I might edit anonymously." Vancouverguy was previously absent from Wikipedia in February 2004. He edited a bit in October 2005 and has not posted since.
