I have newspaper articles where Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo was mentioned. can I use those as a basis for rewrite? They are scanned into an independent site of hers.

Martín Alonso Pinzón

About half a year ago, you asked for translation from es-wiki for the article on Martín Alonso Pinzón. I've done the translation, and then some more work. Have a look. - Jmabel | Talk

Discussion invitation

British Royalty Hi Calliopejen1, I would like to invite you and anyone watching who shares an interest in moving forward constructively to a discussion about Biographies of Living People

New editors' lack of understanding of Wikipedia processes has resulted in thousands of BLPs being created over the last few years that do not meet BLP requirements. We are currently seeking constructive proposals on how to help newcomers better understand what is expected, and how to improve some 48,000 articles about living people as created by those 17,500 editors, through our proper cleanup, expansion, and sourcing.

These constructive proposals might then be considered by the community as a whole at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people.

Please help us:

Ecuador

I do not, alas - I plumped for French in school. So if you need help on sub-Saharan Africa...

A Google search for "parroquia" and "Ecuador" pulls up this - would it be useful? As I say, I don't speak the language, I'm afraid.

Why am I not surprised that these Ecuadorian cantons have fired your imagination? :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:33, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Quite an experience" sounds like a bit of an understatement, to be sure - did you partake in the blood drinking?
I know what you mean by "second world", and I agree with you - there's a lot of good information coming online that wasn't available even a year ago. It's quite heartening. Ever moreso to see it being brought onboard here. Thanks for your help in getting the cantons sorted out, by the way. It's just starting to irk me that here we are, close to nine years on from the founding of Wikipedia, and there are still so many second-level country divisions lacking even the most basic articles. We should be doing better. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:49, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Definately. Camilo Ponce Enríquez (municipality) though should be technically called a parish I believe... Hopefully we can find a list of all the parishes of Ecuador and create an article. Some day we will have over 1500 detailed articles (with pictures) of parishes of Ecuador and of all Latin American countries. Now that would be something to work towards! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I once saw cock fighting on holiday once and I was appalled by it. Interesting culture though, I'm pretty sure many villages in Ecuador have their own customs too which probably won't be even mentioned online for 10 years... Yeah I saw that the parishes contained what looked like a number of villages, comunidades formal then I gather. I found a source for Benin recently which lists all of the village with population data to so once I finish the arrondissements I will develop those. There was not of this data for Benin last year. 2009 was a big year on here. Information which we groaned about in the past is slowly making its way online. Still a long way to go, the Ecuador parishes show this, I mean just look at Gabon, barely anything online at all about places!!! But if you work on one country long enough I always find by the time you come back to somehere else more info has become available. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:05, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good Lord. I don't think I could ever manage to do that. I mean, I'm adventurous (I'm one of only two people I know to ever willingly eat grasshopper), but I have my limits.
I don't have adventurous travel stories. I just periodically get lost in strange cities where I don't know the language, and have to use only my wits, a rudimentary city map and a hotel key to find my way home. Oh...and eat Chinese food in Krakow (fried rice with a side of...coleslaw?) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:06, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They're called "parroquias" in the Spanish Wiki, I think: es:Categoría:Parroquias de Ecuador --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:10, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather we dropped the (parish) in the title to the article anyway. I think the village/town and parish should be one article similar to Municipality and town in Mexico. Transwiki anybody? Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:11, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Check out this. Page under construction. Perhaps soon enough they will provide demo data for places... Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:20, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, looks very South American, I've sene clips of similar looking things in Bolivia. Talking of weird local things have a look at the yellow car on Cové. How odd!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:35, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think its some sort of Yoruba custom. It looks like big black men playing around with a little kiddies car!! Also Zangbeto. I just looked on Yoruba wikipedia. Some interesting unsourced stuff on there.. Have you seen the pics of the fetish markets of Lome in Togo? Fascinating stuff, at times rather scary but this is what wikipedia should be about. It gives us an opportunity to start covering parts of the world which were previously ignored but have a rich culture/history. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:45, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I was only just looking at that article last week and thinking what a great job you've done with it. I'd prefer a standard infobox instead of geobox. Also I'd recommend creating a montage of images of Ratanikiri and placing that in the main infobox... Something like File:Chiang Mai City.png but more tidely aligned. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WHen we were talking about Yoruba the other night I had a browse on Yoruba wiki. I stubbed Gbedu. Then I requested it be expanded. Now we not only have the article but we have Sakara drum and I've seemingly whetted the author's appetite to add more! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:50, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, two drum articles out of tens of thousands of missing African articles no doubts. Now if I can find a way to clone these rare African contributors... Oh I was looking on flickr and found 900 free images of Cambodia!!. Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:46, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated 1970s in science, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1970s in science. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Age problem

Hello Calliopejen1. I just wanted to know if you were still active in the Fashion Wikiproject. I just witnessed a small bug on the infobox model at (don't click yet) Ksenia Kahnovich. She had her birthday three days ago but when I consulted the page a few minutes ago it was still written "(age 22)" after her d.o.b. (she's supposed to be 23 now). I refreshed the page and now it shows the right "(age 23)" and I can't reproduce the bug. It's probably nothing but I still found it weird that it could show her old age three days after her birthday. Maybe you could access the page to see if you get the same problem? Thanks in advance. Thiste (talk) 14:01, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I just tested something. I'm using Google Chrome here, so I tried to launch Firefox and see how it shows. And again, "(age 22)" the first time (at least) I'm accessing the page. After refreshing the page a few times, it still doesn't change to 23 on Firefox. I then tried with IExplorer and it shows the same "(age 22)". There's a bug somewhere, maybe you know where to ask to fix this? Thiste (talk) 14:11, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I opened it in Firefox & IE exclusively for testing the potential bug. I had never opened that page in either browsers so I don't think it was a cache problem. I'll report the problem over at that template page. So, I take it you didn't get the bug, did you? Thiste (talk) 15:01, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Account

Nothing! Oh its nice to have a change. I like both accounts, but I like the theme of this one and I like seeing the name in the history of pages. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:31, 2 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

I've finished starting those cantons of Ecuador anyway. I wa thinking the (canton) rather than Canton capitalised naming would probably be better. Perhaps you could offer your view on Rich Farmboroughs talk page. Any chance you could ask the folks at map lab to make an svg map of Nigeria like Template:Location map Guinea? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:24, 2 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Thanks. I have a bit of cleaning up to do with Nigerian towns. I'm hoping that our drum editor will sometime show an interest in expanding them! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:54, 2 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Wow that's an old one! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:42, 2 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Mmm. I think the surprisingly strong response from the community for the Dawn Padmore article decided it! AFD at times as a peculiar way of improving an article.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:25, 5 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

I agree actually. I couldn't find much on her, just enough perhaps for keeping but it is not exactly an essential article in my book. Care to AFD Joseph Checkler? Non notable blogger. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:31, 5 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

I dunno, I'm also intermediate level Spanish. What about something by Gabriel García Márquez? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:35, 5 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Could you ask this user if we can use her images of the Bsous Museum? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:44, 5 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

I wanted to commend you for saving the Bsous Silk Museum from AfD erasure. Good job! Warrah (talk) 13:01, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some interesting sources at here. Plenty of public domain images of colonial Gabon to upload too! I've made a makeshift grey map for Nigeria, DRC and Gabon anyway until they make the maps, probably will have to wait until 2018. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Yeah the sources he used look like they'd contain a lot of info. He did a great job getting hold of those photos though. Check out my new map on Calabar. Its better but we should still have an svg...03:05, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

I love the Egypt one, check out Esna. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 03:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

I was considering putting the Template:Expand up for deletion Its pretty pointless isn't it? I've come across sub stubs from 2006 or 2007 which have been vurtually untouched after having the tag pleastered over it. Is there really any evidence that they work? If somebody wants to improve an articles they'll do so regardless and they can see that many articles need to be expanded. Unlike the expand language templates which directly serve a purpose. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 01:37, 9 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

The more experience I've had in seeing it the less useful I actually think it is. It asks you to expand it in the stub tags anyway... The expand section tag isn't so bad if it points to editors to develop a missing part of the article which is not immediately obvious but the overall "Expand this article" seems to have little effect. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 11:42, 9 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Yeyeee!! That took a while!!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:27, 10 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

So I see. Once I've finished working on these LGAs and added a few towns with decent svg maps the stubs may start to even remotely resemble other countries on here. Hey I've started a mountains of italy by region template series see Template:Mountains of Liguria. I think I'll copy the articles on Italian wikipedia in the categories and insert them into templates by region to be transwikied. Probably the best thing we can do actually is to go through categories on other wikipedia and red link them in nav templates with the ones we already have. This way even if I haven't the time to start the article somebody at some point or other may want to start it.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:34, 10 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

E.g I could start a Template:Churches in the Province of Salerno etc and red link tons of churches which have articles on Italian wiki... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:36, 10 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Can you believe Category:Museums in Nigeria is empty? There should be 30 odd. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Now we have 10 articles on Nigerian museums... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:22, 10 February 2010 (UTC) I see we are having a Dominican Rpeublic/Caribbean themed evneing/afternoon. Cool. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:31, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Can you do me a favor and move Template:LGAs and communities of Ogun State to Template:Ogun State. Its for adding landmarks etc later. Phew we now have no stone age pink maps for Nigeria now.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 04:51, 11 February 2010 (UTC) This might sound funny but do you like lime? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:52, 11 February 2010 (UTC) Yeah I love Thai cuisine too. Lime is supposed to be good for a lot of things too. I came across this shampoo earlier which has yoghurt and lime in it , this. The smell of it is amazing!! Its like a honey lemon limey and tropical kind of smell but it leaves your hair feeling like a million bucks! It thickens your hair and gives it more texture but the amazing smell of it last all day! Strongly recommend trying it, I'm in love with the smell!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:53, 11 February 2010 (UTC) Cool. you have a gym to go with the job? I'm impressed. Yes I have hair, unlike Dr. Blofeld LOL. quite a lot compared to some blokes actually, similar sort of hair type and color to this although I have more of a receding hairline. All the blokes on my mums side of the family are Blofeld types but on my dads side they have thick hair! I am at risk apprently of becoming a Blofeld, I heard you inherit the bald gene from your mother's father. Nooooo!!. Yeah I never really give a thought to shampoo, I don't normally care, but once I smelt this shampoo I had to try it, I'm certain you'd love it. And it actually makes your scalp feel better too it kinda has a soothing effect. You should definately try it, I'd imagine they sell it in the US. Pretty cheap too. Its difficult to describe in words, but imagine a rich honey/lemon tropical smell mixed in with fresh cream. Its liquid gold! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Talking about delicacies, try a cracker or water biscuit or whatever they are called in the states with Philadelphia cheese and Mango and Apricot chutney. Yum!! What was the food like in India? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:47, 11 February 2010 (UTC) That bad eh? Hope you didn't get Delhi Belly. Recently saw the news about Alexander McQueen. I must admit I have never heard of the guy!! Steve McQueen yes.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 09:11, 12 February 2010 (UTC) LOL "Be prepared for a lot of penises ". I think somehow I'll give that miss.... Yeah for death/goth metal singing in the bellismo language of love doesn't exactly go together... Now have you bought the shampoo yet? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:38, 16 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Maps

Sorry, I don't know anyone who'd be up for this job (I mean all maps). It is my understanding that creating a map or two is not that difficult, but volunteers tend to run out of steam after converting a few maps, which is why we end up with a hodgepodge of maps of all kinds and looks... As for the maps we already have, I don't know how well they would work for other countries, but for Russia we really need one showing internal borders, otherwise the map is not going to be too helpful.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 15:17, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I misunderstood. But no, I don't know such a person either. Blo above is going to ask Nordnordwest; if he can't help, I doubt anyone else can.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 15:29, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

We better discuss conic location maps here as more users will read it: I don't know anything about programing templates. Last March I asked de:User:Visi-on how to transfer it to en:WP, especially Template:Location map Canada. He told me you better adapt these three templates: de:Vorlage:Positionskarte, de:Vorlage:Positionskarte+ and de:Vorlage:Positionskarte~. Then it should be possible to use conic maps. If you have questions you better ask Visi-on, I'm not able to answer them. As long as this isn't done it's senseless to discuss a better map for Russia. Alexander McQueen picture removals?

In this edit you removed five images from Alexander McQueen with the comment "(rm images - these are all copyvios)". Can you please be specific as to why you think so? The first is under a claim of fair use, but the four I added are on Wikimedia Commons, and you haven't nominated them for deletion there. They're all from Flickr, and seem to be properly licensed there. --GRuban (talk) 18:35, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thousands of African/Asian images

Hi. I was wondering if you could use the bot to upload these , especially these. I made the agreement with Grete Howard long ago but so far very few of the images have been uploaded except for a few in Benin like Zangbeto and Togo. The bot never works when I try to use it. She has a mass of wonderful images which would greatly help the project don't you think? Its a gold mine!! Check out these of the Peruvian Indians! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:11, 23 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

As this RFC closes, there are two proposals being considered:

  1. Proposal to Close This RfC
  2. Alternate proposal to close this RFC: we don't need a whole new layer of bureaucracy

Your opinion on this is welcome. Okip 02:05, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
