Mantua (/ˈmænəweɪ/) is a town in Box Elder County, Utah, United States. The population was 791 at the time of the 2000 census. Mantua was settled in the late 1800s when LDS President Lorenzo Snow sent Peter Frederic Peterson and 4 other families to settle the valley and grow flax. Snow was from Mantua, Ohio (near the historic Johnson Farm), and the town was named in his honor.[1]
Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.5 km² (5.6 mi²). 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it (13.21%) is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 791 people, 218 households, and 189 families residing in the town. The population density was 62.7/km² (162.5/mi²). There were 231 housing units at an average density of 18.3/km² (47.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.33% White, 0.63% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.51% from other races, and 1.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.88% of the population.
There were 218 households out of which 52.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.4% were married couples living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.3% were non-families. 12.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.63 and the average family size was 4.01.
In the town the population was spread out with 38.2% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 108.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.8 males.
