The 2024 Vexbolts Mass Unfollowing was a social media event that took place on the 31st December 2024, during which a large number of TikTok users, all together, unfollowed the TikToker by the name of Vexbolts.
Background
Vexbolts is an Ohio-born TikToker that is known for promoting "Brainrot content", especially for creating the Let him cook meme. Since then, Vexbolts managed to amass a fanbase of around 1.4 million followers. However, slowly people started not liking his content, especially since he was still "dragging the Let him cook meme" and "using memes and trends too quickly".
In late December 2024, TikTok user by the name unemployedcrashout posted a video advocating for people to unfollow Vexbolts on New Year's Eve. Gaining 530,000 views, the news spread like wildfire and "Vexbolts mass unfollowing Dec 31st, spread the word" starting to go around rapidly all over TikTok.
Right when the campaign started, Vexbolts immediately started gaining hundreds of thousands and millions of followers, who were planning to follow and then unfollow him, with him gaining around 3,5 million followers 4 days into the campaign. Vexbolts was also partaking in the trend, making videos about the event and jokingly begging to be "not left in 2024". Various other influencers, e.g. Kai Cenat, also took part in the trend, promoting people unfollowing him.
The event
On 31st December 2024, Vexbolts had a bit over 8 million followers, 6,5 more than he had before. Most users unanimously agreed to unfollow him on 23:59 GMT-5, because of Vexbolts living in the US, however, the event already started right before it hit New Year in other countries. According to [[dexerto, "it took seconds for him to lose a million followers". It continued until the last timezone hit 2025 and after the event, his follower count plummeted down from 8 million to a bit over 3 million. On 31st December, he also started "his last stream" on TikTok, which historically gained slightly under a million at its peak.
Aftermath
On 1st January 2025, Vexbolts officially made one last video saying that "he has been left in 2024". However, many people were not happy, calling the event "unsuccessful", as Vexbolts got to meet up with MrBeast, capitalized heavily on the suubject and his follower count actually doubled than before the campaign. Some also compared it to the campaign where people were unsubscribing the YouTuber Fred in 2010.
