Biography and Education

From a young age, Bertozzi displayed great musical talent. He began studying the clarinet and saxophone, and soon started performing live, ranging from band concerts to dance evenings. In 1984, he enrolled at the Antonio Stradivari International School of Violin Making in Cremona, graduating as a master luthier. In his workshop in Roncole Verdi, he crafted various classical and modern instruments for Italian and international musicians.[1]

Alongside his musical studies, Bertozzi began working as a session musician. He collaborated with numerous recording studios and played the saxophone on approximately 300 CDs for artists such as Enrico Ruggeri, Gianni Bella, Marcella Bella, Marina Fiordaliso, Marco Masini, Drupi, Andrea Mingardi, Franco Bagutti, and many others.[2] He also focused on composing and arranging hundreds of pieces across various musical genres.

Bertozzi is a versatile and talented musician who has dedicated his life to music. Career

Early Career and First Albums

Bertozzi is an Italian saxophonist, composer, and arranger who has released numerous solo albums, collaborated with some of the most prominent Italian and international artists, and performed worldwide.[4]

His debut album, Big City Dreamer, was released in 1998. Recorded in Italy with Alberto Tafuri, Lorenzo Poli, Enzo Zirilli, Franco Cristaldi, and Alberto Venturini, the album received critical and public acclaim.

In 2003, Bertozzi released his second album, Talkin' Back, recorded in New York. Featuring prominent American guests like Bob James and Hiram Bullock, the album garnered further critical and public success, leading Bertozzi to perform at the Blue Note in New York.

Mid-Career Evolution

In 2009, Bertozzi released his third album, Crystals. Produced by Lorenzo Poli, the album featured international music icons such as John Patitucci, Andrea Braido, Randy Brecker, and the late Hiram Bullock. The album was highly praised and considered one of the best jazz albums of the year.

In 2014, Bertozzi collaborated with Warner Chappell Music Italia to produce an instrumental album reinterpreting 11 songs from Warner's extensive catalog. The arrangements preserved the original melodies while infusing Bertozzi's unique sound.[5]

Recent Projects

In 2022, Bertozzi unveiled Hammond Sound, a live project featuring reimagined tracks from his earlier albums performed in a classic Hammond organ trio setup. The album highlighted the collaboration with renowned organist Alberto Gurrisi and drummer Maxx Furian.[6]

In 2024, Bertozzi launched a groundbreaking project, The Verdi Sessions Vol.1, in collaboration with mezzosoprano Anna Maria Chiuri. This project reimagines the works of Giuseppe Verdi through a blend of classical and jazz-fusion styles. The first single, Oh, dischiuso è il firmamento, showcases this innovative approach and has been praised for its creative reinterpretation of Verdi's music.[7]
