Question from UserAfrica05 (19:19, 4 September 2024)

Hello I would like to create a Wikipedia page about my father who is all over google reserve but don’t have one Wikipedia page I would like to share his experiences his path troughs his studies and challenges . Accomplishments for the country and the integrity he want people to adopt. How do I make a simple page of his bibliography? --UserAfrica05 (talk) 19:19, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The best advice I can give is to avoid writing anything you have any personal connection with. This essay shows some of the pitfalls you can encounter; particularly, once a Wikipedia article is created, and is deemed to be notable so it should stay, it is very difficult to remove the information. Sorry, several "keep" arguments were directly refuted, as were some "delete" views, so the "merge" option suggested by some seemed to be the option that I felt most people who expressed a view could live with. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:13, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To deletion review it is then. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:26, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The only other possible closure is "no consensus" in my view. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:36, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024

Hello Ritchie333:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from Nohorizonss (20:08, 13 September 2024)

hello, if an editor engages in competitive disruptive editing of an article, what steps can be taken? --Nohorizonss (talk) 20:08, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The basic guidelines are set out in this page. The first thing to do is start a discussion on the article's talk page, and see if a consensus can be reached. If it can't, then further things can be tried such as getting a third opinion or filing a formal notice for dispute resolution. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 07:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wigandbean (01:11, 16 September 2024)

Hi Ritchie Thanks for being my mentor! One of the things I would like to do is sort out the "roguelike chronology" page tables. Primarily because the table for traditional roguelikes has become polluted with Japanese rpg listings. Most aren't "pure" or traditional roguelikes (ASCII graphics, etc.) and don't belong there. Many don't qualify as hybrids. So my thought would be to move them into their own category table. BUT I wanted to ask you for advice whether I should or not, and if it is worth doing. It will require research on my part--which I have no problem with at all. I'm happy to do it, but I require your advice first. Thanks! --Wigandbean (talk) 01:11, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I don't know what "roguelike chronology" is - my focus has generally been on British architecture and transport articles. As for a general piece of advice about whether you should do something or not; the general view is you should have a go at doing it on one article, and if you get reverted on that, start a discussion and see what happens. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:53, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi!
Thanks for responding.
I understand. And I'll give it a go.
I'll make some notes and plan it on paper first. I'll need to do some research too. But I was looking for a "project" in general so I think this will do.  ; )
Best,
RC Wigandbean (talk) 23:33, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Omar Azami (15:06, 18 September 2024)

Hi, I have set up an account to add a page. I am using my son's laptop that uses the same Wifi as mine, but when I log into my laptop, an error message appears saying the IP address is blocked. How can I unblock my laptop please?

Thank you --Omar Azami (talk) 15:06, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there @Omar Azami! Ritchie seems to be away currently and I checked his page by coincidence, so I'll step in here just to be sure the wait isn't too long.
To stop past disruption from other editors abusing multiple accounts, it's practice to ban both IPs and even IP ranges. It's possible that unlucky but supportive editors to be affected in this situation. It's happened to me before when my school was IP blocked, but I was put under an IP block exemption; this is what you'll need. You can find out more about this exemption, and how to request for one, at Wikipedia:IP block exemption. Panini! 🥪 20:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Khenku Sinentlahla (09:33, 20 September 2024)

How do I create a page --Khenku Sinentlahla (talk) 09:33, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there @Ritchie333! Stepping in for Ritchie here so the question doesn't stall too long.
Creating a page can be very tricky, and I recommend it's best to understand general Wikipedia policy by working on other articles first before going all in. Please check out WP:FIRST, as well as some important links to check out which I have left on your talk page. Panini! 🥪 15:58, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gazingo (20:33, 20 September 2024)

Hello, is there any way to do a pushpin map with the former country infobox? I'd like my article Merrymount Colony to show the colony's location but I also want the features of the former country infobox style. --Gazingo (talk) 20:33, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Gazingo! I'm stepping in for Ritchie juts to make sure questions don't stall too long. I'm not the next best thing, nor am I a third or fourth best, but probably in the top 1000.
It looks like you can use a map image on this inbox by using the |image_map and |map_caption parameters. If you go to Template:Infobox country, you can see the list of all the parameters that work with the template, as well as an example on how to use them. Please ping me here if you need anything else! Question from Charles (Kay Tu) (17:22, 23 September 2024)

Hello, can I ask you a question? How can I create and upload an article or a biography of someone or about myself? Please. --Charles (Kay Tu) (talk) 17:22, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Charles (Kay Tu)! I'm here answering questions while Ritchie is away.
This may not be the answer you want to hear, but you should most likely not do this. Please very carefully read Wikipedia:Autobiography to prevent yourself some trouble with various WP:Conflict of interest rules in the future. Panini! 🥪 07:01, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gazingo (02:31, 27 September 2024)

How do I change an article's title to Italics? --Gazingo (talk) 02:31, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Gazingo! Still me.
Most infobox templates will automatically italicize the article title if necessary. If this is not the case for your article, you can put {{Italic title}}at the top of the page. Panini! 🥪 06:51, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
