If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Template:Columbia MO TV (currently a redirect to Template:Mid-Missouri TV) → Template:Mid-Missouri TV (move · discuss) – Includes Columbia and Jefferson City Mvcg66b3r (talk) 17:52, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hokke (Fujiwara) (currently a redirect to Fujiwara Hok-ke) → Fujiwara Hok-ke (move · discuss) – see Fujiwara Shiki-ke to align Gryffindor (talk) 22:38, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Nanke (Fujiwara) (currently a redirect to Fujiwara Nan-ke) → Fujiwara Nan-ke (move · discuss) – see Fujiwara Shiki-ke to align Gryffindor (talk) 22:38, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Kyōke (currently a redirect to Fujiwara Kyō-ke) → Fujiwara Kyō-ke (move · discuss) – see Fujiwara Shiki-ke to align Gryffindor (talk) 22:38, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
- Minamoto (clan) (currently a redirect to Minamoto clan) → Minamoto clan (move · discuss) – undiscussed. Could sysop please revert the wholesale undiscussed moving of articles by this particular user, there are too many too list individually here: Special:Contributions/AmyJadeja . Thank you. Gryffindor (talk) 22:39, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
- John Hutchinson (footballer, born 1979) (currently a redirect to John Hutchinson (association footballer)) → John Hutchinson (footballer) (currently a redirect instead to John Hutchinson) (move · discuss) – Relatively clear cut per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sportspeople)#Association football (soccer). 11:47, 16 July 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macosal (talk • contribs)
- Oppose. We also have John Hutchinson (Australian rules footballer). -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:08, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp:, that is not a relevant factor per the guideline above. Standard practice appears to be to use “(footballer)” to disambiguate despite existence of pages for sportspeople playing other variants (e.g., Anthony Gordon (footballer) and Anthony Gordon (American football)). If your interpretation is to be correct/made universal then the guideline should be changed but it seems clear to me that “(footballer)” is entirely consistent with current practice and guidelines? 03:39, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

- Tromsø → Tromsø Municipality (currently a redirect back to Tromsø) (move · discuss) – use standardized naming for municipalities in Norway - disambiguate from other places with the same name Jay1279 (talk) 18:15, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Jay1279 If the municipality is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, then adding "Municipality" is unnecessary disambiguation. If you're arguing that the city should be the primary topic instead of the municipality, that would require a formal move discussion (click the "discuss" link in your request above). --Ahecht (TALK

- Abdülmecid II → Abdulmejid II (currently a redirect back to Abdülmecid II) (move · discuss) – His name is Abdülmecid in modern Turkish not really. for example Mehmed II is in modern Turkish is Mehmet but he was really mehmed and people also know him by that name.People know Abdulmejid II him as Caliph and know him as his name Abdulmejid or Abdulmejid II or Abdulmejid sani. I request to change it to Abdulmejid II Therealbey (talk) 22:06, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Therealbey: The standard is the common name in English sources. The current title was the result of a requested-move discussion at Talk:Abdülmecid I#Requested move 30 May 2024, so this should not be moved without another requested-move discussion. SilverLocust 💬 04:19, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- HM Prison Forest Bank → Forest Bank Prison (currently a redirect back to HM Prison Forest Bank) (move · discuss) – New guidance from HMPPS (UK Gov) on naming of Prisons and Young Offender Institutions across England and Wales. No longer appropriate to use HM Prison, HMP, HMYOI or HM YOI. Name itself only followed by Prison and/pr Young Offender Institution. Official-Sensitive (talk) 16:06, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Official-Sensitive Not necessarily uncontroversial. The majority of sources refer to it as "HMP Prison Forest Bank." See WP:COMMONNAME. I suggest starting a RM discussion. You can do this by clicking "discuss" next to the page link above. C F A 💬 16:19, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Official-Sensitive: Do you have a link to this guidance? Graham (talk) 04:54, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Second Mujib Rahman ministry (currently a redirect to Second Mujib ministry) → Second Mujibur Rahman ministry (currently a redirect instead to Second Mujib ministry) (move · discuss) – WP:CONSISTENT — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 16:49, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Hemant Dabral Consistent with what? The only other similarly named article is Third Mujibur Rahman ministry, which you just moved to that title 20 minutes before submitting this request. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 14:54, 15 July 2024 (UTC)- Have you paid attention to the title of Azizur Rahman ministry, Habibur Rahman ministry, Latifur Rahman ministry etc? — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 15:09, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- I fail to see how those apply when the change you are proposing is to the spelling of "Mujib" vs "Mujibur". To use your first example, Azizur is referred to as "Azizur" throughout his article, whereas Mujibur is referred to as "Mujib" throughout his (as well as in the sources of Second Mujib Rahman ministry). --Ahecht (TALK

- Kutub al-Sittah → The Six Books (currently a redirect back to Kutub al-Sittah) (move · discuss) – Moving the Arabic transliterated name to the English name. This is warranted as the equivalent page for the canon of Shia hadith collections is called The Four Books instead of its Arabic equivalent Kutub al-ʾArbaʿa. In addition, google searches for "The Six Books" are over 10x as common (and rising) as searches for "Kutub al-Sittah" (either way this wikipedia page is the top result). https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=Kutub+al-Sittah%2CThe+Six+Books&year_start=1800&year_end=2019&corpus=en-2019&smoothing=3 Pogenplain (talk) 04:56, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Pogenplain There were two attempts to move this in 2013 at Talk:Kutub_al-Sittah. While it's very likely that usage or opinions could've changed in the last 11 years, it would require a new discussion. Please click the "discuss" link in your request above to open a full move request. --Ahecht (TALK
