In August 1997, Fisher, represented by Gloria Allred,[8] sued Fayed for breach of contract in the Santa Monica Superior Court and claimed that they were engaged to be married, with a wedding set for August 9, 1997, when he began a relationship with the princess.[6][3] A spokesperson for the Al Fayed family denied an engagement between Fisher and Fayed.[6]
