Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Han unification, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Han (check to confirm&nbsp;|&nbsp;fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. <small>Read the FAQ Join us at the DPL WikiProject.</small>

I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. == Proposed deletion of Single-digit and double-digit numbers ==

The article Single-digit and double-digit numbers has been proposed for deletion&#32; because of the following concern:
:not only has original research, but has nothing which isn't original research.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the proposed deletion/dated notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing proposed deletion/dated will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> — Arthur Rubin (talk) 17:55, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the eighth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Maintainers disappeared to parts unknown... bots awakening from the slumber of æons... hundreds of thousands of short descriptions... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots.

Our last issue was in August 2019, so there's quite a bit of catching up to do. Due to the vast quantity of things that have happened, the next few issues will only cover a few months at a time. This month, we'll go from September 2019 through the end of the year. I won't bore you with further introductions — instead, I'll bore you with a newsletter about bots.

<span style="font-size:125%">Overall</span><br />
* Between September and December 2019, there were 33 BRFAs. Of these, yeac 25 were approved, and 8 were unsuccessful (nayd 3 denied, idkc 3 withdrawn, and 2 expired).

*TParis goes away, UTRSBot goes kaput: Beeblebrox noted that the bot for maintaining on-wiki records of UTRS appeals stopped working a while ago. TParis, the semi-retired user who had previously run it, said they were "unlikely to return to actively editing Wikipedia", and the bot had been vanquished by trolls submitting bogus UTRS requests on behalf of real blocked users. While OAuth was a potential fix, neither maintainer had time to implement it. TParis offered to access to the UTRS WMFLabs account to any admin identified with the WMF: "I miss you guys a whole lot [...] but I've also moved on with my life. Good luck, let me know how I can help". Ultimately, SQL ended up in charge. Some progress was made, and the bot continued to work another couple months — but as of press time, UTRSBot has not edited since November 2019.
*Article-measuring contest resumed: The list of Wikipedians by article count, which had lain dead for several years, was triumphantly resurrected by GreenC following a bot request.

Welcome to the ninth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Vicious bot-on-bot edit warring... superseded tasks... policy proposals... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots.

After a long hiatus between August 2019 and December 2021, there's quite a bit of ground to cover. Due to the vastness, I decided in December to split the coverage up into a few installments that covered six months each. Some people thought this was a good idea, since covering an entire year in a single issue would make it unmanageably large. Others thought this was stupid, since they were getting talk page messages about crap from almost three years ago. Ultimately, the question of whether each issue covers six months or a year is only relevant for a couple more of them, and then the problem will be behind us forever.

Of course, you can also look on the bright side – we are making progress, and this issue will only be about crap from almost two years ago. Today we will pick up where we left off in December, and go through the first half of 2020.

<span style="font-size:150%">Overall</span><br />
In the first half of 2020, there were 71 BRFAs. Of these, yeac 59 were approved, and 12 were unsuccessful (with nayd 8 denied, idkc 2 withdrawn, and 2 expired).

*Two new bots dropped in January 2020: ST47Bot, the successor to STBot, and Seppi333Bot, whose task was to perform a weekly update of four "massive" wikitables for WikiProject Molecular Biology.

*On February 1, some concerns were raised about ListeriaBot performing "nonsense" edits. Semi-active operator Magnus Manske (who originally coded the Phase II software|precursor of MediaWiki) was pinged. * In March, a long discussion was started at Wikipedia talk:Bot policy by Skdb about the troubling trend of bots "expiring" without explanation after their owners became inactive. This can happen for a variety of reasons -- API changes break code, hosting providers' software updates break code, hosting accounts lapse, software changes make bots' edits unnecessary, and policy changes make bots' edits unwanted. The most promising solution seemed to be Toolforge hosting (although it has some problems of its own, like the occasional necessity of refactoring code).
* Some of the twelve bot tasks approved this month were TheSandBot 6 (removing blocked users from :Category:Wikipedia usernames with possible policy issues), and TheSandBot 7 (removing unblocked users from :Category:Wikipedians who are indefinitely blocked for promotional user names). SDZeroBot 2 was approved to refine geographic stub tags. New bots approved this month were MajavahBot (to patrol WP:EFFPR), SDZeroBot (to merge stub tags), and Bitbotje (fixing DISPLAYTITLE modifications, DEFAULTSORT errors and broken behavior switches in draftspace).

*A discussion on the bot noticeboard, "Re-examination of ListeriaBot", was started by Barkeep49, who pointed out repeated operation outside the scope of its BRFA (i.e. editing pages in mainspace, and adding non-free images to others). Some said it was doing good work, and others said it was operating beyond its remit. It was <span class="plainlinks">blocked</span> on April 10; the next day it was unblocked, reblocked from article space, reblocked "for specified non-editing actions", unblocked, and indeffed. The next week, several safeguards were implemented in its code by Magnus; the bot was allowed to roam free once more on April 18.
*ST47ProxyBot joined the stable in April, after a BRFA started in December was finally completed. As an adminbot, it was authorized to block IP addresses belonging to open proxies, public VPN services, and web hosts. New tasks approved for existing bots included BHGbot 5 (diffusing categories), TheSandBot 9 (taking over some tasks from the inactive RonBot), and WugBot 4 (updating data at Interactive COVID-19 maps). Also, DatBot 10 was approved to scale down non-free SVGs — I didn't even know that was a thing.
* A discussion at Wikipedia talk:Bot policy was started by Thryduulf about whether WP:BOTCOMM should explicitly specify that bot operators must be responsive to concerns raised on English Wikipedia specifically (as opposed to Phabricator, SourceForge, Toolforge, et cetera). Eventually, the policy was amended to its current form:
:<blockquote>Issues and enquiries are typically expected to be handled on the English Wikipedia. Pages reachable via unified login, like a talk page at Commons or at Italian Wikipedia could also be acceptable [...] External sites like Phabricator or GitHub (which require separate registration or do not allow for IP comments) and email (which can compromise anonymity) can supplement on-wiki communication, but do not replace it.</blockquote>

*In July 2017, Headbomb made a proposal that a section of the Wikipedia:Dashboard be devoted to bots and technical issues. In November 2019, Lua code was written superseding Legobot's tasks on that page, and operator Legoktm was asked to stop them so that the new code could be deployed. After no response to pings, a partial-block of Legobot for the dashboard was proposed. Some months later, on June 16, Headbomb said: "A full block serves nothing. A partial block solves all current issues [...] Just fucking do it. It's been 3 years now." The next day, however, Legoktm disabled the task, and the dashboard was successfully refactored.
*On June 7, RexxS blocked Citation bot for disruptive editing, saying it was "still removing links after request to stop". A couple weeks later, a discussion on the bots noticeboard was opened, saying "it is a widely-used and useful bot, but it has one of the longest block logs for any recently-operating bot on Wikipedia". While its last BRFA approval was in 2011, its code and functionality had changed dramatically since then, and AntiCompositeNumber requested that BAG require a new BRFA. Maintainer AManWithNoPlan responded that most blocks were from years ago (when it lacked a proper test suite), and problems since then had mostly been one-off errors (like a June 2019 incident in which a LTA had "weaponized" the bot to harass editors).
*David Tornheim opened a discussion about whether bots based on closed-source code should be permitted, and proposed that they not. He cited a recent case in which a maintainer had said "I can only suppose that the code that is available on GitHub is not the actual code that was running on [the bot]". Some disagreed: Naypta said that "I like free software as much as the next person, and I strongly believe that bot operators should make their bot code public, but I don't think it should be that they must do so".
*Two new bots had their first BRFAs approved: Yapperbot, to replace Legobot for handling the Feedback Request Service, and NoSandboxesHere, to remove user sandbox from articles in draftspace using :Category:Non-userspace pages using User sandbox.

You did not identify the source of the material in your edit. Presumably, it is Javanese name. Copying within Wikipedia is acceptable but it must be attributed.

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. However, for future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, linking to the source article and adding the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.

While best practices are that attribution should be added to the edit summary at the time the edit is made, the linked article on best practices describes the appropriate steps to add attribution after the fact. I hope you will do so.

I've noticed that this guideline is not very well known, even among editors with tens of thousands of edits, so it isn't surprising that I point this out to some veteran editors, but there are some t's that need to be crossed.<span style="color:#000E2F;padding:0 4px;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">S Philbrick</span><span style=";padding:0 4px;color:# 000;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">(Talk)</span> 12:52, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Welcome!

Sukhoi grafitti at Solo

Dear Benny,

If, by chance, you'd know the authors of this grafitti, would you please be so kind to thank them from a friend in a very far away land?

If you don't know them or this is not possible for any other reason, I appreciate it the same.

Terima kasih! --MaeseLeon (talk) 02:49, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The grafitti signature is by Nik2 (Nik-nik) Foundation. I've never heard of them before, but I'll ask around to send them your message. I've also copied your message to commons:File talk:Sukhoi crash grafitti in Solo.jpg and File talk:Sukhoi crash grafitti in Solo.jpg, in case somebody read them. And since it made me happy that someone appreciate a photo that I took, I'll upload the details later today.

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:30, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:47, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor

Hey Bennylin

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:39, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update on VisualEditor and id.wiki

Hello Bennylin. As you are very active on id.wiki, I thought I let you know about the potential rollout date of September 24 for VisualEditor on your wiki. Thanks to User:Iwan Novirion, a lot of the interface and help documents have been translated. However, I need to post an update to the Indonesian Wikipedians about the upcoming date. Would you be able to help me with a bit of translation for the update? Best regards, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 00:36, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, absolutely :) Bennylin (talk) 05:13, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Bennylin, thanks for helping, and so quickly. I have posted your translation. If you notice any problems with how VisualEditor handles Indonesian text, or unique templates that only exist on id.wiki, please let me know. PEarley (WMF) (talk) 16:00, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Bennylin (talk) 04:08, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Update on the update. Due to unforeseen issues, we are waiting until Sept. 30 to do the rollout. If you can, I've left a probably googlemangled message on id.wiki, I wouldn't object to you fixing it ;). Cheers, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 00:45, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Transliterations

Iʻm fairly certain you created the webpage that transliterates the Latin script to Javanese. I was wondering if you would perhaps be able to do one for Balinese, and perhaps the other Indonesian scripts, as well. It would be much better than going from Unicode and copy-pasting letter by letter. DerekWinters (talk) 02:09, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DerekWinters: Hi Derek, thanks for your interest. I'm going to try it now. But since it will be based on Javanese, I hope our Balinese friends could take a look and correct me if some of the rules are wrong/different from the Javanese ones. Bennylin (talk) 13:13, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For other scripts (Sundanese, etc.), I need someone knowledgeable enough to talk with first. So if there's other editors out there with the know-how, I'll be happy to make the transliteration tools in those script. Bennylin (talk) 13:24, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thereʻs one already out there for Sundanese (http://sabilulungan.org/aksara/). I'll see who I can contact for Balinese and the others, but Iʻm fairly certain that apart from Balinese, the scripts are not too complicated. For Rejang, all the sources show it to be a simple abugida but also with a couple final consonant diacritics. DerekWinters (talk) 15:24, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OOT: After scratching my head because I've seen you around somewhere in the maze of the WMF projects, yet, you're profile page is still red here; now after you mentioned the Sundanese script transliterator, it dawned to me that you're the one at en.wikt moving Javanese and Sundanese lemmas to their respective scripts (in fact, I just browsed [2] yesterday, puzzled who is this guy that knows about Sundanese script :D). I wanted to contact you at that time, because, as much as I wanted to see the script as the title of the page, still the fact remains that 1) not all people could read it, and it has been Latinized for so long now, it is now the de facto script of the Javanese language, 2) technically less than 50% of the browsers could display them properly (in the case of Javanese script), and 3) the ordering (if they ever get ordered, for example in the category page), is not what people expected; they would expect similar ordering like Latin (A-Z), or at least the "hanacaraka" ordering that we've learned for all our lives, but for God-know-what-reason, the people who submit the Javanese language to the Unicode Consortium decided to do what they did, and all convention was broken.
Now I don't know what the en.wikt policy about multiple scripts of the same word/lemma, but in jv.wikt, both scripts existed as separate page, that links to each other. There, the Javanese script-titled page/lemmas would have the definition written in Javanese scripts too, because that would be natural, as in the Javanese dictionary/encyclopedias that were published before the turn of the 20th century. Mixing local script title and Latin lemmas are quite confusing.
It seems to me, then, that you're looking for transliterator to do this kind of work for the Balinese language/script. While adding the script to the definition page would be commendable, but moving the whole page would create undesired confusion, in my opinion. Please reconsider them accordingly.
Meanwhile, work has been started on http://bennylin.github.io/transliterasijawa/bali.html and probably would be usable in one or two days, and while on that, have you seen http://dictionary.basabali.org/ yet? I think it's an amazing Wiktionary-like site. Bennylin (talk) 16:39, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok. I haven't seen the jv.wikt pages yet. I think then that I'll simply add the transliterations to pages on en.wikt. And dictionary.basabali.org is actually fantastic. Thank you very much.
Oh and also, I hope you don't think I'm some wannabe who doesn't know anything about the scripts. I have learned them, Javanese first simply out of curiosity and the others soon followed. The order I see on wiktionary resembles the standard ordering of all Brahmic scripts, but it still seems illogical to follow it considering the separate tradition the Javanese have followed. Would it be possible, perhaps, to alter the ordering that wiktionary uses? And for the murda forms for proper names whenever added, those could follow directly after their regular counterpart. I'm not certain where the swara would go, but I think in front would make most sense. Also the aksara rekan would have to go somewhere. DerekWinters (talk) 20:53, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Can you also do me a huge favor and help me with the pronunciation of the "for Chinese sounds" section of the aksara rekan bit at http://www.omniglot.com/writing/javanese.htm ? It's not very clear at all from what they have. DerekWinters (talk) 20:53, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Neophytes are warmly welcomed :D. It's true that the brahmic orderings (ka-ga-nga) still used in several scripts (i.e. Lampung script and Rejang script), but in Javanese and Balinese it's been largely obsolete/forgotten/replaced by the hanacaraka ordering. Now the Unicode decided to resurrect the ka-ga-nga ordering for Javanese/Balinese, and there's nothing that we could to to "unsort" them back to hanacaraka. Murda is more wacky, so let's avoid that topic for now, since wiktionary (I hope) would rarely use them. Swara in the front of the word are technically used for loanwords, either from Indonesian or from other languages. But that would require an authoritative source to list what words are still considered "foreign", and what foreign words have been fully absorbed; the good rule of thumb is that capital "A, E, I, O U" would get aksara swara (i.e. Agustus, Allah, etc., compare to other capital Latin that doesn't necessarily have to use the murda form: "September", "November", "Desember", etc.). As for Aksara rekan for Chinese, I myself are as confused as the person next to me... it's basically a crude transliteration table, largely incomplete and hugely not standard Chinese, therefore can't deal with modern Chinese words. Without a (Javanese-Chinese) word list, it's impossible to determine their pronounciation. For a better table, I've started with the work of transliterating all possible Chinese voices to Javanese script in id:wikt:Indeks:Pinyin-Aksara_Jawa I haven't used any special scripts, but in the future I probably would need them for certain voices that's not in basic Javanese script. Bennylin (talk) 16:57, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh see what I meant was to resort them on wiktionary only. Is that possible? DerekWinters (talk) 22:01, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Have you finished the Balinese transliterator yet? DerekWinters (talk) 19:12, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some projects came up during last week, so it was postponed. But I managed to find a Balinese script guru at FB, so this week I'll try to consult to him for the transliterator. Stay tuned! :) Bennylin (talk) 09:04, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's great. Thanks! Also, can you do me a favor? After having dug around a while ago for Madurese dictionaries written using the Javanese script, I did find one (https://books.google.com/books?id=LvMUAAAAYAAJ&dq=Madoereesch-Nederlandsch+Woordenboek&source=gbs_navlinks_s). Based on it and http://madurese.lib.uiowa.edu/about/orthography.pdf (the 2008 orthography uses the convention devised by the H.N. Kiliaan, which he used in his 1904 dictionary(the one above)) I added the script here Madurese_language#Phonology. Do you think you could verify it somehow? Unfortunately I couldn't see the content of the book. (can you?) I can't confirm the phonology nor any written document of it, as I have almost never seen the Javanese script used in Madurese language in modern time. My information about this usage is solely from Wikipedia. (File:Raden_Segara_(Madurese_in_Javanese_script-published_in_1890)_(cropped).jpg). Without knowledge of the Madurese vocabulary, I can't decipher it (where's the wordsplit, etc.). Plus, you didn't source your information. Bennylin (talk) 16:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Derek, sorry I haven't been able to fulfill my promise, since I'm still lacking in knowledge on how Balinese script is differ from it's Javanese counterpart. But luckily, somebody sent a link about this ftp://std.dkuug.dk/jtc1/sc2/wg2/docs/n2908.pdf just recently, so now I'm eager to finish this again. I'll keep you posted up. Re: Javanese Transliteration Project (follow-up)

Hi Bennylin,

Just wanted to follow-up - I would love to help out with your Javanese (and other Indonesian languages) transliteration project! Where is the project at right now, and what still needs to be done? Please let me know when you get the chance, thanks! Subbupedia95 (talk) 03:01, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see the notice that you left a message in your talk page, sorry for that. I have left you a long reply, hope it will somehow help you start. You can call me Benny, that's fine :). You can also reply me here, because I'm used to back and forth messaging between talk pages. Hope to hear back from you soon. Bennylin (talk) 16:00, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Benny, Thanks for your patience and support. My semester just ended, so I have some time now to work on this. I took a look at the LanguageKk.php and other language converters there, and I think I could definitely come up with something like that for Javanese. It may be better to emulate Wikipedia's current transliterators instead of pointing it to your JS transliterator for the purposes of consistency and unity with other Wikimedia projects. I do have a few specific questions on Javanese script; do you have a good email I can reach you on (just for ease of communication)? If you would prefer not to leave it here, you can find my email on the Phabricator post that you found me on initially, and please feel free to contact me there. I will respond much faster, so we can make more progress. :) Are there any characters in the Javanese script that are etymology-specific? For example, could have a "syo" compound in a Sanskrit-derived word as well as a Chinese-derived word, in which case the word would need to be situationally transliterated? This would require a word-list. Your point on the Javanese manuscripts is also interesting to me; do you have an example where I can see it in print (just out of curiosity)? Please reply when you get the chance. Thanks! Subbupedia95 (talk) 23:57, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Subbupedia95:: I've sent you my email address. Regarding your question, we could have "syo" by combining "sa"+"-y- (pengkal)"+"taling"+"tarung" = ꦱꦾꦺꦴ. Since it's phonetics, it could be used to write other languages, including Indonesian, English, Chinese, etc. (although there're some sounds in Chinese and English that can't be represented yet). For printed books of the script, look no further than commons:Early Javanese books that I curated. Bennylin (talk) 17:12, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1257 eruption of Mount Samalas

Greetings,

may I ask why you moved 1257 Samalas eruption to 1257 eruption of Mount Samalas? While I did sort of arbitrarily make up the original title it is used by a major source whereas the new one isn't, and usually (WP:COMMONNAME) the more commonly used name takes precedence. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:29, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Thank you for your query, and sorry for not providing reason for the move. The reason I changed the title was because I saw two other eruption titled 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora and 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. Please correct me if I missed some title convention. Bennylin (talk) 20:04, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Below I searched and compiled list of similar titles. I can see there's two major title convention "<year> eruption of <mount name>" and "<year> <mount name> eruption"

Bennylin (talk) 20:12, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Well, 1883 eruption of Krakatoa throws up more results than 1883 Krakatoa eruption and 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora more than 1815 Mount Tambora eruption so these names appear to follow COMMONAME. I actually don't know about any name convention for volcanic eruptions and Wikipedia:WikiProject Volcanoes doesn't indicate anything either. From that and these titles it seems like there is no convention. I still think that in light of the usage numbers, that "1257 Samalas eruption" should be preferred in its specific case. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:21, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're more than welcome to correct my edit. Also, I've started Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Volcanoes#Naming_convention_for_mount_eruptions in the WP Volcanoes. Bennylin (talk) 20:39, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Did so, I'll comment in that discussion. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:53, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translate from Javanese?

Hi Bennylin, I saw you've edited the Javanese script article on English Wikipedia, so I thought I'd ask you... This StackExchange question asks for a translation of some Javanese text. Can you translate it? Can you transcribe the characters from the image into Unicode? If so, would you? I'd love to know what it says.

Even if you don't want to post on StackExchange, or if you can't help at all, please post some reply on User talk:Quuxplusone. Thank you very much in advance! --Quuxplusone (talk) 04:53, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!! I see that your cleaned-up transcription (in Javanese script) is still presented as an image rather than as Unicode text. Is there a particular reason for that? Could the text be "Unicode'd," or does it employ characters/elements that aren't available in Unicode? --Quuxplusone (talk) 13:48, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Quuxplusone: For two reasons, the line breaks and the font choice. The default font for Windows 8.1 and above are different style than the one I chose (that's closer to the text). And depends on which browser you see it from, the output might look different. But I will edit and put the Unicode text there as well. Bennylin (talk)

Discussion at Talk:Sarah Azhari

I invite you to please join the discussion at Talk:Sarah Azhari.

Hello, we are seeking help with the Sarah Azhari article, created in 2013 & recently the subject of a deletion proposal. At issue was whether or not the Indonesian language sources establish notability. I am inviting you to the discussion at Talk:Sarah Azhari#Help with Indonesian language sources because you are in the Category:User id-N & have a minimum of 1,000 edits across all Wikimedia projects.

I realize that some of you are very busy while others may no longer be editing. Nevertheless, I thought it wise to consult with you.

Assistance with Indonesian Wikipedia ban

Hello Bennylin, would it be possible for you to assist me in attempting to have my account at the Indonesian Wikipedia unblocked?

At Special:CentralAuth/93, there are 104 other language Wikipedias and other Wikimedia projects where my username is not an issue. The administrator who banned me did not say why my username is invalid, and sadly he has died. I am not willing to change my username for a Wikipedia where I will not edit, and it is very problematic to have a block, for example at Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library where I was initially prohibited from applying to access it. 93 (talk) 23:33, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@93: Hi, we're sorry for that. Your account has been unblocked, and this is an official statement from Indonesian Wikipedia on behalf of other admins that your account (or previous accounts before renaming) has been blocked wrongly, and you have never did anything that warranted a block in Indonesian Wikipedia in the first place. Bennylin (talk) 00:04, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! Please also consider unblocking other users who may have been erroneously banned by Stephensuleeman such as Surv1v4l1st (ID, Global) who had the same issue as me. 93 (talk) 00:17, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can't do that, there's no way to know which block was erroneous easily (need to spend a lot of effort and time). It's better to be requested individually, and checked individually as well, in case there was any legitimate block. Cheers. Bennylin (talk) 00:46, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
