Anthony Fok is a Singaporean economics tutor and author. He is founder and CEO of JC Economics, an economics tuition center in Singapore.
Education
In 2007, Fok graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a degree in accountancy.[citation needed] In 2011, he obtained his master's in education from Monash University.[citation needed]
Career
In 2012, he resigned from Ministry of Education as a school teacher after five years to concentrate on his doctorate in education studies at National Institute of Education. To support himself during the course of his studies, he turned back to private tutoring, having conducting tuition classes during his undergraduate days, and founded JC Economics, an economics tuition center in Singapore.[1]
In 2016, The Straits Times named Fok as one of the 'super tutors' who could earn more than S$1 million in revenue annually with two-thirds of his students achieving high grades for their papers,[2] and the moniker caught on in international publications as they covered the national debate about the prevalence of private tuition in Singapore.[3][4][5][6]
In 2017, Fok along with several other private tutors founded the Association of Tutors (Singapore) to look after the welfare of private tutors and their professional development,[7] and serves as its president.[8] Fok is also a Board Director of Association of Person with Special Needs (APSN), a charity organization with runs special education programmers for special needs students.[9][when?]
In 2021 he was awarded S$170,000 in damages after he sued a rival tutor, Edmund Quek of Economics Cafe Learning Center, for defamation.[10]
