The House of Peoples' Representatives (Template:Lang-am, yehizb tewekayoch mekir bet) is the lower chamber of the Ethiopian Federal Parliamentary Assembly, the legislative body of the country. Located in the capital Addis Ababa, the House has 547 members. All are elected in theory for five-year term in single-seat constituencies. The proceedings in the chamber are led by Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives. Of the 547 seats 35 of those seats have been terminated for now. A law passed by the parliament jurisdictes that the TPLF is a terrorist organization and any affiliates of it will be punished. This de-facto places the 35 seats as missing. No political party is seated in the 35 seats. Until the law is removed the TPLF cannot posses any seats for now. The next elections might determine the rest of the 35 seats.

History - 2015 elections

In 1995, Ethiopia's ethnic federalism system was set up, with a bicameral federal parliamentary assembly, of which the lower chamber with not more than 550 members as per the constitution. 22 of the currently 547 seats are reserved for representatives of minority nationalities. Ethiopia is a dominant-party state in that, a coalition, the EPRDF, dominates politics even while opposition parties are allowed.
