Har Ik Zehr, which means Every Single Poison in Urdu, is a New York City based three piece Desi-American melodic rock band whose music is an eclectic mixture of sounds and styles ranging from the classical Pakistani music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Jeff Buckley, Peter Gabriel, Tool, Opeth, The Police, Rush, Led Zeppelin and U2.

Har Ik Zehr was formed in early summer of 2004 by Pakistani born vocalist/guitarist Dar, guitarist Sharjeel Shaw, bassist Arvind Dilawar, and drummer Richard Orjuela in Astoria, New York. By the end of summer 2005, after recording three demo tracks and playing a few shows opening for Pakistani bands such as Junoon and Jal, guitarist Shaw left for personal reasons, and bassist Dilawar relocated. Timothy Leung replaced Dilawar as bassist to complete the band’s present lineup.

Vocalist/guitarist Dar sings in both English and Urdu. He complements his melodic singing with an eclectic mix of atmospheric chords, percussive strumming, and blues infused Indo/Paki melodies. He is also working on incorporating the “Dhol” which is a traditional Pakistani drum, into their live shows. Richard Orjuela embellishes his energetic hard rock drumming with polyrhythmic Bhangra-esqe fills. Timothy Leung completes the band with his thunderous bass lines mixed with melodic soloing and chording on a 6 string bass.

Har Ik Zehr is currently rehearsing, writing, playing shows in New York City and Tri-state area. They have played successful shows at Crash Mansion, The Michael Schimmel Theater at Pace University, Galapagos Art Space, and Arlene’s Grocery, CBGB’s Downstairs Lounge.

The band promotes peace, tolerance, cultural exchange and diversity, and contributes a portion of their proceeds from shows to charities that support education, medical research and health, and poverty.
