Mohammed K. El-Yasin (Arabic: محمد خالد الياسين, born on February 26, 1949),[1] also known by his family name Ajlouny (Arabic: العجلوني),[2] is a Jordanian linguist and translator, recognized for his contributions to the fields of linguistics, translation and sociolinguistics in Jordanian Arabic language. El-Yasin is particularly known for his academic career at Yarmouk University and his editorial work with the Jordanian Journal of Modern Languages and Literature. He has translated several literary works between Arabic and English, with a particular focus on the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish.[3][4]

[edit]El-Yasin is married and has 8 children.[5] His wife, Sana' Ababneh, is an associate professor[5] specializing in English curricula and teaching methods at Al-Balqa Applied University.[6]
Education and academic career
[edit]Mohammed K. El-Yasin was born in 1949 in Jordan. He completed his early education in the country before pursuing higher education abroad. El-Yasin earned a Bachelor's degree in English Language and its Literature from the University of Jordan, and continued his studies in the United States, where he obtained a PhD in Linguistics from Cornell University in 1982.[7]
El-Yasin returned to Jordan after completing his PhD and began his long-standing career as a university professor at Yarmouk University. Over the years, he has made substantial contributions to the university's linguistics and translation programs. In addition to his teaching role, he served as the editor-in-chief of the Jordanian Journal of Modern Languages and Literature, and an editors at Irbid National University.[8] He held the position of Head of Department, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University.[9] Also, He was the Dean of Student Affairs at both Yarmouk University and Philadelphia University.[10]
