== The Guess Who ==

Hi Guy – appreciate your comments on my edits to The Guess Who. I wonder, though, what to call the current band other than a cover band, as the musicians have no connection to the original The Guess Who, other than having been hired by an original member to perform The Guess Who music, often without any original members participating. Thoughts? [[User:PSPazW|PSPazW]] ([[User talk:PSPazW|talk]]) 21:23, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

If I can make an observation, Hayman's "[[Cohen on the Telephone]]" was not the first record to sell a million copies. That was [[Enrico Caruso]]'s "[[Vesti la giubba]]", first released in 1903.<nowiki><ref name="The Book of Golden Discs">{{cite book | first= Joseph | last= Murrells | year= 1978 | title= The Book of Golden Discs | edition= 2nd | publisher= Barrie and Jenkins Ltd | location= London | page= </nowiki>[[iarchive:bookofgoldendisc00murr/page/9|9]] | isbn= 0-214-20512-6 | url-access= registration | url= https://archive.org/details/bookofgoldendisc00murr/page/9<nowiki/>}}<nowiki></ref></nowiki> Hayman's 1914 recording did sell a million copies and was the first 'million selling comedy dialogue disc', selling over two million copies in the U.S. alone. (Same source as above, but on page 10 on the book). Hayman's was seemingly the sixth million selling disc. ::By way of explanation, I have had my Murrells' open a bit recently, largely to help polish up various Wiki articles on million selling recordings by [[Hank Ballard]]. I should also perhaps inform you that Caruso's epic title translates as "On With the Motley". What is has to do with [[Dick Dastardly]]'s accomplice is not clear. I probably could have worded 'had my Murrells' open a bit recently' better too, but I am getting old. - [[User:Derek R Bullamore|Derek R Bullamore]] ([[User talk:Derek R Bullamore|talk]]) 23:04, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

I am asking a favour again. There have been a couple of single edit IPs who have, without any supporting evidence of course, added that Martinez died on 11 February 2024. I have reverted both, but have begun to wonder whether it may well be true. Martinez is 76 years old after all. Try as I might I can not find anything of proof on the net. He is/was an Englishman, albeit of Moroccan descent, and I am assuming he died in the UK - but you know the problerms inherent in assuming anything. Can Detective Hamilton work his magic ? Thanks. - [[User:Derek R Bullamore|Derek R Bullamore]] ([[User talk:Derek R Bullamore|talk]]) 14:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

I had quite forgotten about this case, but recently stumbled upon the article's talk page and noticed my comments posted in November 2023. I do think that the article should quote 1901 as her YOB as, at the very least, a more "viable alternative" (or some such wording). Would you care to revisit this one please ? : Will do, if I can find time. Bob Eagle (and Stefan Wirz, and this - https://msbluestrail.org/blues-trail-markers/lil-green) - who I would regard as reliable - state 1901, which I think we should give priority to. Interestingly her gravestone - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/28558920/lillian-green#view-photo=226727589 - gives 1905, which I don't think I've seen anywhere else! ::Many thanks for your work on her article. I feel it reads so much better and is logical now - particularly the sentence that starts "After the early death of her parents..." Excellent effort on composing wording for the 'Notes' section too. One minor aspect, but do we have a reference to support the final sentence beginning "She died of pneumonia..." The sentence has been in the article since at least January 2009 ! Cheers - [[User:Derek R Bullamore|Derek R Bullamore]] ([[User talk:Derek R Bullamore|talk]]) 21:34, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

== John Sessions ==

Hi, I hope you are well. I checked John and Margaret Sessions birth records at ancestry.com. Their mother’s maiden name was Richardson and according to England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2007 they were born in Bedford. Sessions must have fancied being born in Largs but it is not true.
John Gibb Marshall as mentioned by another contributor is a different person born the same year.
I’d have put this information on the Sessions talk page but I was frozen out as I was about to post.
Keep up the good work. Check Ancestry which I believe you have access. [[User:Dorkinglad|Dorkinglad]] ([[User talk:Dorkinglad|talk]]) 23:15, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

== Glyn Johns article ==

Well, I'm still around, and its always good to give you a good Hello--I've been missing you and everyone--I hope you're doing well! As it turns out I've had an expansion of the [[Glyn Johns]] article sitting around in my sandbox since who knows when, but I've finally had some time to do some actual heavy-lifting on it. So, I just added a big chunk of text into the article. Now the challenge is to see what we can do to fine-tune and refine it. I'm sure that you'd like to take a look at it. I also put a too-bulky message on the talk page there. Best wishes! [[User:Garagepunk66|Garagepunk66]] ([[User talk:Garagepunk66|talk]]) 05:33, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

:::I realize that you've been away, but if you get a chance, I was wondering if you could comb through the Glyn Johns article and check to make sure that the use of British English there looks right. Also, I tried to use secondary sources as much as possible, but there were instances where I had to fall back on Johns' autobiography (only for basic facts about necessary matters i.e. his early background, etc.). In those cases other sources weren't available--or in other cases I corroborated citations to his book with other refs. I'd like to see if we can get the article to GA, but I want to make sure that the autobiography citations wouldn't be a stumbling block. What do you think? :::::[[User:Derek R Bullamore|Derek]], thanks so much for your kind help. Sorry that the Family section looked a bit confusing. I went in and tidied it up. Hopefully, it looks better now. Both of you, let me know if there are any more problems with the article. How the British English? Is the use of the primary source, Johns' autobiography, OK (I tried to keep its use to a bare minimum—I used it mainly for the early background, early career, etc.)? Thanks. == Faye Adams family background ==

I noticed that a long time ago you added details about [[Faye Adams]]' father [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Faye_Adams&diff=prev&oldid=127690129 being a gospel singer and COGIC member]. Do you perchance remember where you got this information? :Sadly, back in 2007 I was not as punctilious as I should have been about citing my sources, and I can't remember back to that edit 16 years ago (!). Are you sure that the Allmusic article postdates my edit? If one was available on that site at that time I'm sure I would have used it. It's also likely that I would have used Marv Goldberg's article - https://www.uncamarvy.com/FayeAdams/fayeadams.html - which although dated 2018 I'm sure must have long pre-dated that. Well done - oh, how I laughed (I still am to be truthful). "It Was Hard When I Kissed Her Goodbye", and "You Ought to See Her Box" - how did such titles get released in the early 1950s ?! Still chortling, I had a quick Google search for Betty Thornton (as mentioned in the article). I might not have bothered except I had an Auntie Betty (and an Auntie Peggy, for that matter), so it made me guffaw even more. I know there is a discrepancy as to how this recently deceased bluesman's name was styled. Both [[AllMusic]] [https://www.allmusic.com/artist/rl-boyce-mn0001465283 here] and dear old Stefan [https://www.wirz.de/music/testamen.htm here] have him as shown above. :Yes. Although [https://rlboycepicnic.com/ this site] uses "RL Boyce", his record company [https://waxploitation.com/rl-boyce/ here] uses "R. L. Boyce". The Guess Who

[edit]

Hi Guy – appreciate your comments on my edits to The Guess Who. I wonder, though, what to call the current band other than a cover band, as the musicians have no connection to the original The Guess Who, other than having been hired by an original member to perform The Guess Who music, often without any original members participating. Thoughts? PSPazW (talk) 21:23, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The term "cover band" seems inappropriate and unnecessarily demeaning. Just use the word "band", or something like "the Kale/Peterson band". No need to take sides - WP:NEUTRAL. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:48, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If I can make an observation, Hayman's "Cohen on the Telephone" was not the first record to sell a million copies. That was Enrico Caruso's "Vesti la giubba", first released in 1903.<ref name="The Book of Golden Discs">{{cite book | first= Joseph | last= Murrells | year= 1978 | title= The Book of Golden Discs | edition= 2nd | publisher= Barrie and Jenkins Ltd | location= London | page= 9 | isbn= 0-214-20512-6 | url-access= registration | url= https://archive.org/details/bookofgoldendisc00murr/page/9}}</ref> Hayman's 1914 recording did sell a million copies and was the first 'million selling comedy dialogue disc', selling over two million copies in the U.S. alone. (Same source as above, but on page 10 on the book). Hayman's was seemingly the sixth million selling disc. Pedantic, but what else can a man with a book do !? – Derek R Bullamore (talk) 22:49, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK - my (less than perfect) sources say something different, but I'll happily tweak the text! Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:52, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By way of explanation, I have had my Murrells' open a bit recently, largely to help polish up various Wiki articles on million selling recordings by Hank Ballard. I should also perhaps inform you that Caruso's epic title translates as "On With the Motley". What is has to do with Dick Dastardly's accomplice is not clear. I probably could have worded 'had my Murrells' open a bit recently' better too, but I am getting old. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 23:04, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question Regarding Wikipedia Publishing Companies

[edit]

I wanted to ask about Wikipedia publishing companies. Would you have some information about these? Is this something which can be asked on this forum? Hopefully it is ok to ask this question. 141.154.53.27 (talk) 03:05, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I can't help you. You could look at Help:Contents, and see if that helps direct you towards an answer. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:44, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a couple of sources for his death - so far I've only found social media posts giving a date, but I'll take another look. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:28, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I had quite forgotten about this case, but recently stumbled upon the article's talk page and noticed my comments posted in November 2023. I do think that the article should quote 1901 as her YOB as, at the very least, a more "viable alternative" (or some such wording). Would you care to revisit this one please ? Thanks, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Will do, if I can find time. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:24, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your work on her article. Cheers - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:34, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have covered the situation with a relevant reference. Thanks again. To prove I am capable of something positive, I will add a sentence or two to the article's talk page to explain where we are with the date of birth. I am sure some editor, somewhere down the line, will question the position. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:13, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
