This quote is not a criticism of rent-seeking *theory*, it's a rhetorical invective against the real-world *practice* of rent-seeking, and an argument about the real-world consequences of rent-seeking - one of the principal subjects of the quoted source. This section is about the development of the theory, and this subsection is specifically about criticism of the theory. But Deaton seems to wholeheartedly support the theory. undo Tag: Visual edit

Obviously there's a metaphorical analogy here, but that sort of editorial rhetoric has no place in an encyclopedia article, unless quoted from a relevant source. The article cited for this paragraph makes no mention of parasitism, so it's just inappropriate here. It's also misleading. I had assumed the link would be related to "obtaining money," not biological parasites. undo Tag: Visual edit

Even this subtle hype of the former may lead to the overlooking of rent-seeking as an occurance in cases with no -- or no direct -- state link. undo Tags: Mobile edit Mobile web edit
