Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters

[edit]

Hi Techwiz,

Glad to see you got adoptions, I am not sure though that Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters is the best place to document them - better to use the userboxes on your user page, otherwise people might use that page as some sort of competition - when it really should be a resource for new users. Cheers Lethaniol 00:41, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have removed them for the time being - replacing with that you have 2 adoptees, and leaving that you are open to one more adoption. Keep up the good work Cheers Lethaniol 00:50, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you can tell, but I responded to your talk to me. I'll accept your adoption. Blado 21:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Yes, please! I would like to know how Wikipedia works from the inside :) --Taraborn 11:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You titled [this] edit as "last adoption". I also noticed you removed your Adopting userbox. Do I take this to mean my acceptance of your adoption was over looked? --Ciphershort 23:34, 4 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

My revert

[edit]

You're welcome, glad to help. Vandals are of course annoying, but vandals who target the editors who revert them are a particular peeve of mine. I also reported this one to AIV, but I saw you'd gotten there first. :) Regards, Newyorkbrad 22:31, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure :-)

[edit]

Sure, no problem. Although I must echo Newyorkbrad in saying that vandals who strike back at RC patrolers paticularly anoy me, too. Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 07:14, 8 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

My Request for Adminship

[edit]
Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. Sorry to see Coredesat beat you to the punch, you should have been a fraction of a second quicker eh? :P Please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page should you need anything or want to discuss something with me.--Nilfanion (talk) 15:42, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

[edit]

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! Reverting on January 11

[edit]

mmkay....I understand you reverting my comments on the Talk page of Treasure Hunters. I was expressing my opinion, and now I realize that the Talk page was not an appropriate area for the subject and better left for message boards (although it's a little ironic, don't you think, that the area I was replying to was in the form of a message board, in that editors were giving their varied opinions on the Fogals, and yet my message board-esque comments were removed even though they were perfectly in the context of the subtitle). But WHY did you have to be all up in my face about "vandalism" with a frickin' stop sign? First of all, it wasn't even the main article, it was the Talk page, something most laymen will never see nor care to see. And second, my post never reached the extremes of that of other Wikipedia vandals whose IP addresses would have ended up receiving the same Stop Sign message.

Whoo sorry for the rant there. I do have my own account but this is a school computer and something or other prevents me from logging in. Please forgive me if I sounded a little harsh, but once I get a vent going it's pretty hard for me to stop.

Please reply on this page.--66.110.220.74 00:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I gave you a bv because you recieved a test1 yesterday. Now that I think, you probably should've recieved a test3 or something. So, I'm sorry. I had no way of telling the warning wasn't for your actions because the talk page of your IP wasn't marked with {{schoolIP}}. If you log in under you real account and add it to the page, then people will know. However, it's probably not good for an IP to call themselves a school, which is why you should log in and do it, provided you not a new (1 or 2 days) user. --TeckWizTalkContribs@ 00:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ADOPT

[edit]

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 14:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Your RfA

[edit]

I'm sorry to see you withdrew your RfA. I hope you aren't put off by its outcome, and that you continue to put all the hard work you have been doing into this project. By the way, I believe you're well on the way to becoming an admin. Just give it more time – I've been keeping an eye out on you and I'm impressed. Just don't self-nominate again, as there are users who would be willing to nominate you in time ;) All the best. --Majorly 20:56, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Majorly, and thank you for the kind message on my page as well. Feel free to ask me if you ever have any questions or comments about anything. Regards, Newyorkbrad 21:31, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry about your RFA. But it's good to see that you're not feeling discouraged. Please keep up your good work and consider attempting another RFA in a few months, especially if someone offers to nominate you. An editor review prior to a further RFA could also prove useful. Regards,--Húsönd 00:20, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've had an editor review going for a long time. It's at the top of this page. --TeckWizTalk Contribs@ 00:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Wikipedia Day!

[edit]

Regarding your RfA

[edit]

In response to this post, you are quite right that I would not have guessed your age if you hadn't disclosed it, and no, I don't "hold it against you". However, I do consider it a mark of good sense on the part of our younger users to keep such information private, at least to the point of not posting it on your userpage, and especially if you intend to get involved with dispute-related processes such as 3RR blocks and responding to "personal attacks".

I will say, though, that far more worrisome than your age is your position on the relationship between adminning and article writing. These are not unrelated processes undertaken by disjoint sets of users. As a point of constructive criticism, try getting seriously engaged in editing an article you're interested in before your next RfA, and consider whether your perspective changes as a result of the experience. [edit]

Thanks for the message. I applaud your gutsy decision to withdraw. Please drop me a line on my talk page if you are nominated in the future. While I'm not guaranteeing support, I'm optimistic that you'll get my support !vote if you've reflected on the issues raised in the RfA and continue being such a useful contributor to the project. --Dweller 08:52, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survivor 16

[edit]

Hey TechWiz, just thought i'd let you know that Survivor 16 was given the go-ahead today by CBS, here: http://www.survivorfever.net/variety_1_18.html Since you usually create the Survivor articles when they annouced, and i am a bit unexperienced in creating articles, just thought you might want to create an article about this upcoming edition of Survivor in 2008. Survivorfan101 01:53, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Forums like Survivor Fever are usually not considered reliable sources. Therefore, I will not create the article until CBS puts up the application online. There will probably be no real announcement from CBS, as the application will serve the same purpose. Also, just because they put up applications doesn't mean it's definitely going to happen and air. I was actually the person to AFD Survivor 15 a long time ago, because there was no sources or application up. I'd be happy to AFD Survivor 16 too if someone creates it using its only source as the forum.. --TeckWizTalk Contribs@ 02:16, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Blameful"

[edit]

FYI, "blameful" actually is a word, albeit a relatively uncommon one and with a somewhat different meaning from the one you had in mind (more like "deserving of blame" than "accusing of deserving blame"). There's no entry in Wiktionary, but see here for a definition). The word you were looking for was probably "accusatory." Regards, Newyorkbrad 22:57, 20 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

[edit]

K sorry it took me so long to respond - wasn't here for 3 days - but I'll take it off, I must say though if Wikipedia editors really trust a nuclear attack sign that is A) on Wikipedia and B) says to "DUCK AND COVER" then maybe there needs to be a standard (how bout a question on the sign up page - do you believe that the Duck and Cover method works?) for wikipedia editors Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 17:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC) -haha, I forgot that you could sign a thing without hitting the john hancock signatue - which doesn't work well on the computer i'm using Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 17:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Newyorkbrad's RfA

[edit]

Thank you for your support on my RfA, which closed favorably this morning, and also for the very kind and thoughtful comments that accompanied your !vote as well as on my talkpage. I appreciate the confidence the community has placed in me and am looking forward to my new responsibilities. Please let me know if ever you have any comments or suggestions, especially as I am learning how to use the tools.

As I've said before, I look forward to supporting your own successful RfA in due course. Please do as I did and speak to Wikipedians you trust about when the time is right. Happy editing and best regards from a fellow New Yorker, Newyorkbrad 18:36, 21 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

Which "welcome" template have you been using that produces that nice table with all the links? I've just been using "welcome" and "welcome2" which are pretty dull by comparison. Thanks, Newyorkbrad 00:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
